Because when a project is fully endorsed by GNU things really happen !
Ideology matters !
That's why the GNU Hurd is a such a success.

(sorry, didn't resist to mention that)

Don't understand this promptness to move to GNU, too. Where's the
fire?
Ideology.

All non-GNU software must die, the sooner the better.

However, I see no problem at all with fork, if Carlos and other
contributors would continue to improve this here project.
Yup. Don't like how somone is running a project? No need to stage
a coup, no need for nasty political battles, just fork it.

And I perfectly understand Carlos (and other contributors)
reluctance to change even one iota in their current work setup for
somewhat dubious gain of being 'GNU approved'.
Yup. They've got something that ain't broke. So naturally, someone
must come along to help them "fix" it.

                                                BTW, what's this
about the term 'open source' disallowed or smth.?
Again, Ideology.

It's not Linux, it's GNU/Linux. The "GNU" comes first because, to
the GNU folks, the GNU part is more important than the Linux part.
Reasonableness and perspective is not in the nature of GNU.

GNU prefers the term "free software", and "open source" is seen as
fork from the pure and unadulterated holy camp of "free software". The
official rant is easily found with Google.
