I have been trying to reproduce this in version v1.5.0 without success.
I can get some pretty strange things to happen by rapidly clicking
combinations of "Enable Tx", "Halt Tx" and "Tune" but nothing that I can
reproduce with slow deliberate steps that can be simply traced through
the code. From the revision number you quote I assume you are using
v1.6.-0-devel, is this issue only happening in one of the newer modes
like WSPR, JT4 or Echo?

Not such a simple fix as the PTT and tones are sequenced with timers and
separate threads of control and do not happen at the same time or place
in the code. I believe the change in background of the left hand status
indication in meant to reflect PTT rather than Tx audio which was why I
wrongly assumed that this issue would be linked to PTT action.

If you can document a sequence of actions that causes this issue it
would be very helpful.
