I'm glad to see some improvement, but it's still far from ideal. I'm afraid that I have no idea why the ALT-F7 does not work. On FreeBSD it's ALT-F9 to return to X, but that works fine for me. Sorry, but I don't see anything obvious. It would be great if someone could come up with a solution to the base problem of turning the display off and on when in hi-resolution. I really think it's a BIOS issue, though. I may try bugging IBM a bit. They are pretty supportive of open source so they may be of some help. It's clear that there i a solution available as it's not a problem with Windows. Out of curiosity, are you using APM or ACPI?
