Apologies to all involved. I tried again with another source. Worked every time. Perfect repeatable results.
Hmmm, what changed? Different source, different CD. Looked at original source CD. My, that is scratched. Would play initially , then skip / stop. I think I see a pattern here. Note to self: 1) Only use known good sources in tests. 2) Don't run tests last thing at night. Thats more reassuring for me, even if it doesn't help those experiencing their own issues.
