I looked at that first test one more time. It is 50% of the dB scale.
They end up with 72dB dynamic range at Volume of 20. Take a 16bit word inside 20bits and shift it 8 bits to the right (that's 48dB - 1/2 the log scale). Now you have 12bits (you lost 4 bits because it's not really a 24bit DAC). And at common listening levels (75% of the log scale Volume 30 in that example) you lose about 2bits (88dB dynamic range approx 14bits). Crap, that's a LOT !!! -- mswlogo XP > Cat5 > Transporter/DuetController > SPDIF > Meridian G68 > DSP6000, DSP5500HC, DSP5000 XP > Cat5 > SB3 > SPDIF > Meridian DSP5000 XP > Cat5 > DuetReceiver > SPDIF > Meridian G91 > DSP5000 'My Transporter Setup' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=350741&postcount=45) 'Hitch Hikers Guide to Meridian' (http://www.meridianunplugged.com) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mswlogo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9090 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77725 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
