In my mind the added card heat will richen the mixture and therefore make the engine combustion chamber temp go down. I've wondered about shock cooling as well. Had a few differant views from very differant instructors as to the wrong and right way to descend. I finally took the advice from the instructor w/ an airplane of his own, with an A/P I/A. "keep 'er spooled up" were his
words of wisdom. I can understand the big engines going through all kinds
of
havoc, but this doesn't seem to get brought up too much with our "small
block" Continentals.
