Hi, like I mentioned earlier, I have been a Unicode member for some time and followed the developments in the consortium as well as public mailing lists even longer.
I would not say this liaison role is specifically a technical one. In my opinion, it is more related to standards, alphabets and language / l10n policy. No offense to Eike of course, — his brilliant work over the years deserves so much respect — I just think Charles or someone with good experience with standards and representation of FLOSS products throughout various bodies and organizations would be a bit more suited for this specific role. The consortium already has permanent representations as full members from big names like Adobe, Apple, Google, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle. Even Sun is a full member with a right to vote on technical committees. And this is another reason why I would be happy to see a liaison being fully equipped and experienced to represent the entire .org community. Besides, the public mailing list is also open for anyone for all technical discussions. This is my personal opinion of course and given all that, I still support Charles in this role. - Aiet Kolkhi
