The pithy ruminations from Jefferson Cowart on
<[lopsa-discuss] Bluetooth Headsets for Use in DC> were:
=> I'm looking for recommendations on Bluetooth phone headsets that work
=> well for use in a noisy data center environment. My research thus far
I believe that some kind of active noise-canceling device is essential
for extended work in a datacenter or air travel.
I've had several sets of wired noise-canceling earbuds (in-ear headsets) over
the years, most recently the AudioTechnica ATH-ANC33iS. I've been quite happy
with them, but the latest one is developing an intermittent short in the right
channel after ~3 years of use (and too many instances of tightly coiling the
cables).
So, I just went bluetooth, and got the Phiaton BT 220.
Pros:
amazing noise cancelation -- quite a surprising improvement over the
AT, which I thought was quite satisfactory
decent interface, with audio notification of BT power on/off, battery
level, pairing mode
the NC function is distinct from BT, so it can be used for just NC with
longer battery life
can connect to a wired headphone port (3.5MM mini-phono), good for
airplane use or w. a non-BT MP3 player
good battery life
Cons:
cost (not terrible, but significant)
the cable between the earbuds and the dongle is too short to clip to a
belt
requires a special micro-USB-to-3.5MM-phone cable (proprietary?),
which is supplied
single-user; sharing earbuds is just icky, so these are not
appropriate as communal datacenter equipment, unlike over-the-ear
headphones
=> has turned up lots of options, but hasn't really helped narrow it down.
=> (I think I want something that goes in/over both ears to try to block
=> out as much of the background noise as possible.) I realize people in
=> this group probably have experience with this problem. Any specific
=> models/brands you like/dislike for this use?
