So I installed the necessary packages and got them mostly working. What was there works OK but was very limited in what it could do. Some observations. 1. The only message available for the pilot to start a conversation with ATC as far as I could tell is informing the controller that you want to enter the pattern as a VHF flight. Seems real strange when you are sitting on the tarmac preparing to taxi out for take off that you can't ask for permission to take off. The limited number of possible interactions is the single biggest "problem" with this. It would be nice if it were possible to initiate other interactions. For example asking ground control for permission to cross a runway. I am also used to having ATC give more directions when operating near a controlled airport. These interaction are currently missing and I suspect would require some effort to implement. Or am I missing something? Since this is a new feature in 0.9.10 I am hopeful that the next release will see this feature much improved. 2. At first it appeared that I needed to use the mouse to interact with this. And for some stuff like the cancel key this is the case. But after experimenting a little I found I could do most of it with the keyboard by using ' to start things and then selecting the number for the message I want to send. This is good since I use the mouse for changing my view direction. 3. None of the voices sound very realistic even with mbrola installed. I know there is not much that can be done by the FlightGear crew about this so this is merely an observation. 4. At least on my system I can only hear ATC and the pilots voice is silent. I am getting error messages in festival and perhaps these messages are related to this problem. In case someone knows about this here are the messages: aplay: playback:2021: read error FATAL ERROR : cannot find file /usr/share/festival/voices/english/en1_mbrola/en1/en1 ! Cannot open file /tmp/est_30080_00005.au as tokenstream Wave load: can't open file "/tmp/est_30080_00005.au" Cannot load wavefile: /tmp/est_30080_00005.au I am using alsa. Anyone know what is causing these message and how to fix it? Hal ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
