Just to make that point clear: ENTER always should open the submenu, whereas
SELECT selects the
first choice in the submenu. In that sense you only need ENTER, but SELECT is a
handy short cut.

In the example of the TV guide, ENTER will open the submenu, whereas SELECT
will show you the full
description (or start watching TV), which you also could get by selecting the
first entry in the
submenu. The same with PLAY and REC in the TV guide, you can reach both
functionalities by entering
(ENTER) the submenu and choose them from there, or you can use the shortcuts.
Thus you just need SELECT, ENTER, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT and EXIT in the TV
guide, but if you have
more buttons available on your remote you can use them for the other tasks.
Moreover if you have
those four coloured keys on your remote that can be found on many remotes
nowaday, you can also use
the button bar plugin, to access the first entries of the submenu more easily.

I understand your wish to make the freevo interface more intuitive and there
are more reliable in
all parts of freevo, but I think especially the TV guide part is not as bad as
you describe it.

By the way, the wiki (http://doc.freevo.org/Lirc) claims that you need only 8
buttons, that are
essential for freevo: LEFT, RIGHT, UP, DOWN, SELECT, ENTER, EXIT, DISPLAY

But as I said, probably there are places in freevo where the user interface is
not very intuitive
and maybe can be improved.

I do NOT want to stop that discussion! I just want to make the current
navigation concept clearer...

Tanja
