Errm, what? In nearly a decade of using X11 I have never had the problem you are hallucinating here. I could just as well cry about "if you accidentally hit Ctrl-V you've just splattered random text into an unrelated document" for all the sense that either utterance makes. The hatefulness that I regularly get irritated by is that the schizophrenia of X11 WRT selection vs clipboard leads me to get some other text than I thought I was going to get upon pasting, but that has nothing to do with the select and middleclick gestures themselves.
