To put it prosaically dee- The Sun is Earths Mother and we are very vulnerable if Mum goes mad, bad or sad! Whenever I've seen reports of new Sun directed hardware aloft I always think- Good! We need to know what's going on out there- as we are rather puny when it breaks down to essentials. My earlier take. There are some fantastic shots online of solar activity, such as it is lately- flares more than sunspots- but flares are the immediate dangers. Sunspots are more tied to long term climate events and Global Warming ideas particularly.
