And if you've got the turntable connected to phono inputs on the receiver,
that's the right way to do it.

A direct turntable to computer connection would seem to work, but it
wouldn't sound very good.

Going from the turntable through a stereo's phono inputs and then to your
computer OR through a dedicated phono pre-amp will make thing s sound much
better.

Pyle and many other audio companies make phono pre-amps, simple boxes that
convert phono level signals to line level signals:
