If you like Declude, like we do, then you do not have to wait for it
to function as a gateway. Just take the Imail server with Declude and
use it as a store and forward gateway to another mail server running
the primary mail services. This is a very viable alternative if you
already have Imail. The only outlay is for the new mail server and
software. This is likely what we will do, maybe with SmarterMail or
similar. This will likely be very efficient for processor use as well.

TG> I know exactly what you mean Darin, and you could be totally right. Dang, I
TG> hate it whenever I am undecided about something and feel like I don't want
TG> to move forwards until it's solved.

TG> I could easily just buy Declude and hang in here, but the fact that some of
TG> the other email servers sell for less than the price of Declude pro and some
TG> others for less than the cost of Declude's yearly SA alone. Declude has many
TG> features you will not find in other email server offerings, however some of
TG> the other email servers don't have features that Declude with Imail has. The
TG> cost of a yearly SA for both Declude and Imail would easily pay for a full
TG> unlimited license of several different email server offerings that come with
TG> a year of support and upgrades. A subsequent upgrade SA from those companies
TG> is much less than it would be with IMail and Declude together and some are
TG> even less that the cost of a Declude SA. If a person is willing to deal with
TG> FreeBSD, there are some really powerful offerings out there for free.

TG> Ipswitch knows that we have a known stable product to work with and tons of
TG> support right here on this forum. Most other email servers are an unknown to
TG> us and don't have the support community that Imail does. I suspect that is
TG> part of their motivating factor for the new pricing scam. If you don't pay
TG> more for the SA, you would need to eventually buy ICS whenever something
TG> breaks the Imail core and an upgrade is mandatory, which has happened before
TG> and will likely happen again in the future!

TG> The only other thing I have left to consider is about trust and ethics.
TG> After all Ipswitch has done and their weak attempt to smooth things over,
TG> there are new questions. Can we trust them to not bind any of the new
TG> features that we need only to ICS and not the core? If they are greedy
TG> enough to pull what they've already done on us, would they be greedy enough
TG> to do that? Take a feature like SPF for instance as they could easily code
TG> it to only work with ICS and not with just the core Imail, then give some
TG> lame excuse about the way the code works not allowing them to do it that
TG> way. I am not implying they would do this for sure, I am just saying they
TG> could if they wanted to. I've said before and I will say again, once
TG> corporate greed sets in, it spreads like a cancer! This is the real reason I
TG> am having trouble deciding if I want to stay with IMail or what other
TG> product to go with for our email needs. It's now more about ethics and trust
TG> to me that it is the money. If I wait and continue and use Imail in our
TG> newest idea, it means that needing to change later could break what I would
TG> be building around Imail. It may be easier to just fix it now rather than
TG> wait and gamble that Imail will do the right things from here on.

TG> What say you Ipswitch management? I believe this is the second time I've
TG> asked for an official response about this possible issue.
