hello there; well, it sounds to me like your ribbon is minimized. try opening word, then use the keystroke, ctrl+f1 key, now, you should be able to use the menus.

It doesn't matterwhether I'm using JAWS 9 or JAWS 13, ribbon navigation works the same way in both bersions. That's why the menu ribbons are so widely despised: there is apparently no rhyme or reason to the way they work, which can vary from computer to computer.
