You first need to create a default configuration file for minicom. Run "minicom -s" to create a config file (/etc/minirc.dfl).

You also need to verify you've got everything hooked up correctly. You may or may not need a null-modem cable, depending on the pinout of the serial port on your switch.

Sorry, just a little more information. When I run minicom from the
command line I get the error:-
Minicom WARNING: configuration file not found, using defaults
No termcap entry for linux.

I tried installing the libtcap.lrp package but it didn't make any difference.

Hi,

My leaf box is basically a little celeron on an intel mobo with a
cdrom and floppy. It has 1 serial port which I need to use to connect
through an EIA 232 serial cable to configure my switch vlan.
/var/log/messages shows on boot:
firewall kernel: ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
firewall kernel: ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

I'm using bering rc4. So far, my attempts at using getty haven't
resulted in a connection to the switch through either of these ports
noted above. Can someone suggest some settings or a command line I
should try in light of my configuration. The switch requires
9600,8,n,1 settings, typical switch management.
Or, am I on the wrong track here?
