Bush said he'd sign it if it got to him. He didn't say he'd push it through Congress. What did he do that he said he wouldn't (or not do that he said he would)?? > > Given his record for 4 years, I'll bet that if Congress passed a repeal > of > > the 1986 law and allowed new machine guns to be registered, he'd sign > it. > > In fact, if Congress repealed the NFA, removing the tax on machine guns, > > he'd probably sign it. > > His record shows me two things... He increases government, and he > lies. So I would not count on anything. His record is that he signs every bill that Congress sends his way. So if Congress were to repeal the NFA, there's no reason to believe he'd do anything other than sign it. As for "he lies", that's a serious charge. Can you back it up? Remember, to demonstrate that someone has lied, you need to show two things: (1) the person said something that was false and (2) the person knew it was false when he/she said it. Please quote me at least three of Bush's "lies" (with a link to the web page containing the quote--I'm sure that "www.whitehouse.gov" has just about every public statement the President has made) and demonstrate that the statement was false and that Bush knew it was false when he made it. And no, joking around with reporters or an audience in an obviously comedic way doesn't count. Even if you don't "get" or appreciate the joke. For instance, his comment during the 2000 campaign at the Al Smith dinner that Al Gore had told him the dress code at the event was "jeans and tee shirt" does not count. Lowell C.
