I don't know what it was that solved it. Possibly it was switching to
group 3.
The afore mentioned lightening caused an electricity failure, apparently
one longer than the UPS could survive. After a reboot, everything works.
Thanks everyone who tried to help. I learned a couple of new stuff,
which is always nice.
