IMP is another popular PHP-based system.

If you can afford it and have control over the choice of mail
server, I'd recommend looking at Samsung Contact.

Their webmail is tightly integrated with the mail server via
their own UAL API + Apache (no IMAP connection), but uses **TCL**
for the templates. It's pretty lightweight despite that and you
can change them. I keep thinking it's free for a smallish number
of mailboxes, not sure. Amazingly, it does MAPI as well.
This is the direct descendant of the HP OpenMail product and
I quite like the look of it. Any other experiences of it would
be appreciated. It's not open source, but does run on Linux.
