Matthew,
I tried very few things for unblurring, because i am running in
full emergency mode on other stuff. One of the things i tried was
idiotically simple: i powerd up the thinknic with original cd and went on
to use it. the fonts served internally are dramatically better on ALL
displays i tried: 15" lcd panels, 15" cheap monitors and 17" monitors. 17"
sony monitors worked best, then 15" expensive sony panel, then 15" cheap
panel than 15" cheap monitor, but even the worst display was better than
the best under ltsp. behaving like a real scientist, i jumped to a
conclusion: the graphic chipset is ok, it is the combination of xfonts on
the server and the display hardware in the thinknic that gives us
problems.
i know nothing about xfonts, other than the brief theory of
operation and i don't have time to experiment now, so unencumbered by
knowledge i can state that it is my firm belief that we will get it
licked! i think that adding to or replacing fonts on the server will work.
i will checkout the fonts on the original cd and see if they can be
copied to the ltsp server. can not commit to time though. if you come up
with a solution, plese poist with details. i'll do the same, but my
emergency is not about to end befor mid march. julius
