All, I believe once KDE 3.1 is released, any time now hopefully, the talk of 'its too bloated' or 'its too slow' should be a thing of the past. Its seems the KDE team have spent a lot of time optimising their code and making it as fast as possible, espicially when compiled with gcc 3.2. Gnome 2.x have also gone back to the drawing board, lets hope they design a better Application Feedback Support (the Hourglass) that they promised for 2.2!
Don't get me wrong though, I know WM like Fluxbox are designed from the ground-up to be lightweight and fast but look like a poor-mans OS2 (without heavy configuration) compared to the consistent user interface that KDE and Gnome bring to the market. So credit where credits due, at least KDE and Gnome recognise the importance of speedy execution and developing towards that end. Also remember that the majority of an "LTSP market" is most likely going to be the MS-Win/Office migrant company. Regarding bloatware, what do people actually mean when they refer to this, is it the number of bundled applications that come with the WM/DM or the actual memory footprint of the overall basic design. I read in "IT Week" that SuSE are almost ready to launch their Linux Office Desktop featuring Star Office 6.0 & Cross Over Office (MS Office 97/2000) lets wish them well.
