In order to establish whether convert supports the -define option,
I don't check for its version number but directly try to perform
the conversion. If it succeeds, I set up the converter, otherwise not.
In order to make the conversion process as fast as possible, I create
a minimal pdf file, more or less corresponding to the following ps code:

%!PS-Adobe-2.0 EPSF-2.0
%%BoundingBox: 0 0 612 792
showpage
%%EOF

So, I could generate such eps file, instead, then convert it through
ps2pdf and go on from here, or I could simply use any other pdf file,
but in this case the conversion may take longer.
