I spoke to France for just more than 2 hours and about 280 minutes to Can/US last month. My WinTel bill (including taxes) for just over 400 minutes was $10.38. If I'm away for that month or for some reason I'm not as talkative, I don't pay for missing time.

My friend uses Primus' VOiP service out near Nanaimo (on a mac, too) on Shaw and he had no problems - just ditched Telus competely. So I guess your mileage may vary according to area and when the last time Shaw replaced your physical cable... .

I don't get Shaw.

Why would they think people would pay $55 a month for their service when it would be cheaper to just keep your land line, pay for call display and voice mail (or package) and get a long distance company like WinTel (25 cents flat fee per call long distance in Canada and the US and 3 or 4 cents a minute to the UK and France) and not bother with having problems with internet/phone interference?

Well, I guess the attraction of it for me is that I have a number of family members around Canada, the US, and in England and hate the hassle of using phone cards. I make numerous long distance calls each month which really add up. I have tried Sprint and various other long distance agents but this just seems the most hassle free.

I have to admit that I had never heard of Wintel before though. I'm going to check that out.

Considering I already pay $45.00 a month just for basic service from Telus, the extra $10.00 seems like a great deal to me for unlimited LD phone calls.

Also, I heard that there is no interference between the internet and the phone as they are on completely separate wiring systems.
