No, DOCSIS 3.0 is fine. 3.1 is the new standard for 1ghz of a cable modem that is widely available yet. There is one city in California were Time Warner is offering a 1 GHz connection so eventually if tests are good and It will roll across the country over a matter however long a period it takes.
