Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html
Well folks, Richard Hoskins' "war story" has prompted me to come out of the
closet.
I was an ESRI PC ARC/INFO and AV dealer from 1988 to 1995! I had sold many,
many copies of PC/AI and AV, but it was quite a nightmare supporting and
using them. They just weren't windows friendly and I kept insisting that
ESRI should make them more user and Windows friendly, to little avail. To
make matters worse, ESRI's regional offices shamelessly competed with their
dealers while providing spotty support (this may have changed).
When I first saw MT at a Boston Computer Society "MegaMeeting" at U.
Mass-Boston in 1995 I was blown away by it. In the first five minutes of
demo I said "this is what I've been waiting for!" I immediately switched
myself and a large number of clients to MT with great success. BTW, I owned
and used a copy of MI at the time also. I found MT to be better organized
and tighter as a product, although MI would be my second choice after MT.
Well the rest is history. My clients love MT and I make a good living with
it. I have given Caliper over 500 comments and suggestions and they have
included the vast majority of my recommendations in later releases.
That's my two cents for today.
