Mark. to add to your discussion: When so-called socialism was collapsing in Yugoslavia (I know that the local Marxist-Leninists do not consider it socialism since it abandoned the Stalinist way of economic planning and introduced the market, but it still gave workers the illusion of having a say in organizing production. I do not consider it socialism for other reasons), and the shift towards establishing capitalism began—this is even more true for the so-called socialist countries in the Eastern Bloc that were under the control of the Soviet Union—there were no mass protests or resistance from workers against these changes to fight for their rights, which they had under that so-called socialism. In the multi-party elections in the socialist republics of Yugoslavia, socialist parties easily lost these elections, and workers overwhelmingly voted for nationalist parties, without any effort to preserve some of the worker rights they had. In Serbia, the Socialist Party wins in multi-party elections more because it adopted the nationalistic program of the opposition, rather than fighting for workers' rights. The same goes for the countries of so-called socialism in the Eastern Bloc, where the left if it even existed, suffered massive defeats in elections. This is the biggest proof that there was no real socialism there because the workers had nothing to fight for—no rights to defend—since they never felt that the system was their own but rather an externally imposed system. It was not a system they had won and established through their class struggle, so they abandoned it so easily.
