Hello Francisco!

I also have an MZ-1 (although I haven't seen since I lent it to my son!). He
says that it is still working when I ask him. but who knows.

I have a feeling that your MZ-1's problem is just getting old. If mine is still
working, it is probably because I really didn't put much mileage on it.

The MZ-1 used the original ATRAC (since it was the only version at that time,
they didn't refer to it as version 1), but the MZ-1 had many features that have
lost on later models.

For one thing (for anyone who has not actually seen this piece of recent
history, it is big and heavy by today's standards) it had a digital optical
output. This is one feature that, more than any other, I see people looking for
on this list (in portables).

It had a "keyboard". There are number buttons that also double as letter
buttons and buttons for periods, commas etc. But to access the numbers, if you
needed say a c, you had to press the "ABC" button 3 times to access the "C".

This unit introduced the combined digital optical, standard stereo mini plug.
It also had a back lit large LCD display. But did not have a very large running
time using the large NiCad battery.
