Isn't that the way it works now?
Actually, if you started with only one copy of the OS, each successive installation
could add a little enhancement to the operating system, before loaning it as a
"back-up copy" to the next user. That way, no two installations would be quite the
same.
Then we could start a mailing list to discuss why nothing worked quite the
same on any two installations. Wow! Wouldn't that be neat!
