Actually, he insisted that *all *other sciences are ultimately based on mathematics, while metaphysics in particular should be based on logic--the entire normative science that he generalized to semeiotic, not merely mathematical/formal logic. As I have quoted him many times before, "Metaphysics consists in the results of the absolute acceptance of logical principles not merely as regulatively valid, but as truths of being" (CP 1.487, c. 1896). AvB: So, who suggested that metaphysics should be based on Hegel Style verbiage? (The destructive destillation paragraph is from Peirce.) Jon most certainly not. Indeed, who said anything about metaphysics *at all* before John brought it up, seemingly out of the blue? What does metaphysics have to do with anything that we have been discussing in recent List threads about logic and EGs?
