Alyssa nodded, "good bye," she added and once again became engrossed in the
process of waffle making. Alex ventured over to where the child was working
and watched. She seemed to be getting along famously with Dominic. "Are
you ready to taste one of those yet," Alex asked her curiously. Alyssa
looked up and smiled, "all right," she agreed. The two sat down and ate
breakfast in relative silence, though Alex did try to initiate conversation
the little girl didn't seem to be much of a talker. However, Alex found her
to be a very enjoyable child. She had an inspiration as they ate about
shoes. When they finished, Alex took Alyssa to her room and got the syrup
off of her hands and face, then searched through a drawer looking for a
measuring tape. She took meticulous measurements of the little girls feet
and then pulled out a phone book, until she found a shop that would deliver
to the island. She then told them the measurements and after some
difficulty explaining the process, got the clerk to understand and they were
able to figure out a shoe size. She order a pair of white leather tennis
shoes and let the clerk pick what they thought was cute. She hung up and
grinned at Alyssa. "Once you have shoes we can go outside and play or
shopping or to movie." She tossled the girl's hair and led her to the
library to try and find a book to read to her.
