You bring up an interesting thought. While the "Join the Pool" page emphasizes
the long-term nature of joining the pool, there is a risk of getting a server
that might drop off the Internet in a few months. When you are joining the pool
yourself, you don't necessarily want upstreams that haven't been around for
very long. With the public list at support.ntp.org, you can see how long
they've been around. With a simple query to pool.ntp.org, it's a little
trickier. You can view the page for a specific IP by going to
http://www.pool.ntp.org/scores/x.x.x.x (putting in the IP of course), but that
doesn't give you a join date.

I wonder if Ask has the information on when a server was added to the pool, and
if he could add that information on the score page for each server...hint hint

Then, if you had such a tool/page as I mentioned, when you list 10-15 random
servers for the prospective "pool joiner", you could link the IP addresses to
the score pages. That would be a nice way of getting at that information. Heck,
if it wasn't too much bother, you could just list join dates right next to each
record.

At this point, Ask is probably wondering when I'm going to stop dreaming up
work for him to do, so I'll stop :)
