Thank you Nazeef.

Infact in Jaipur ,Sayanora could not get the fanaa song right during
rehearsals, and ARR did not take any chance.
The song was ofcourse removed from the list.

Actually it depends on the arena and the set up.
say if u have watched that Kariakal concert, you dont see much orechestra
and musicians but still you have the feel of the original song. Its tough ,
so you can say that is lip synching as finally what audience care is the
output.

But concerts like LA and other concerts where there is huge set up for the
concert, its not lip synching ,its live as you can see some additional
effects better than the original.

Rahman doest do lip synching(99% of his concerts except that Kariakl thing
,you can accept that), but most of the singers do lip synching on stage and
if at all a singer dances and singes on stage then 99% be sure that it is
lip synching atleast the audio part is pre recorded.

[arr] Jaane tu - Film Review

2008-07-29 Thread Vithur
Film Review: Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

*Cast:* Imran Khan, Genelia Dsouza, Ratna Pathak, Manjari Phadnis and others

*Director:* Abbas Tyrewala
*Music:* A.R. Rehman

Without sounding clichd, it should be informed at the outset that the plot
of Abbas Tyrewalas Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is nothing but a case of old wine
served in a new bottle. How many times have we seen the story on celluloid
from the times of Thespian Dilip Kumar to the latest sensation in Shahid
Kapurs and Kunal Kapoors.

But, surprisingly, the film is funny and genuinely youthful. The director
manages to captivate with his handling of the oft-repeated subject that
could easily have been made into another boring affair. Should the film
taste any success at the box-office, the director alone has to take credit
for that.

Jai Rathod (Imran Khan) has been brought up as a decent boy, who shuns
violence, by his unstable mother Savitri (Ratna Pathak Shah) who fights with
his dead fathers portrait. His best friend Aditi (Genelia De Souza) is a
feisty, ill-tempered girl, whose favourite punching bag is her brother Amit
(Prateik Babbar). They have a gang of loyal friends and everyone thinks Jai
and Aditi are made for each other, except the two themselves. Jai falls for
a soft, feminine-oozing Meghna (Manjari Phadnis) while Aditi finds herself
attracted to a natural hunk (Ayaz Khan).

The sweet tenderness that is displayed between Aditi and her brother is
worth a watch. They fight all the time and she promptly neglects his care
for her; the brothers over-possessiveness is the cause of fear of losing
her, his best friend till date, to other buddies.

Megha sounds mighty silly with her Whats this? fantasy game but
successfully hides her traumatic childhood. Jais mother is an activist who
is constantly battling the creepy neighborhood cop Waghmare (Paresh Rawal -
hilarious as ever).

The climax sequence at the airport is quite a stale one indeed; the
disturbing thought, though, is that the film relies wholly on violence as a
mark of manhood. But Jaane Tu is as neatly packed as an enjoyable film that
the violence factor is forgotten/forgiven. The Khan Brothers and Salman
Khans siblings Sohail and Arbaaz sportingly put in crazy cameos, revealing a
hitherto unseen comic side in them.

Imran Khan fits the bill perfectly. Debutant Genelia DSouza brings with her
an old-world charm that will appeal to most of the teens, the films target
audience. Both give perfectly tuned performances and are accompanied by a
supporting cast of spirited, raw youngsters. For dependable veterans like
Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah, its just a stroll in the part as both of
them manage to breeze through their respective roles with relative ease.

The songs thatd be on the lips of all those who have seen the movie is Kabhi
Kabhi Aditi or Pappu cant dance - A.R. Rehman appears to have been in his
elements while scoring the music.

breathe:) Concert was great. ARR, so you can imagine:) It was like a dream
come true seeing him perform live. Definitely one of the best moments in my
 life:)

And now this is for my sis- I didn't have to travel to the other side of
the globe and didn't have to spend a penny to watch the concert. So yay..:D

And here, some of the live moments i captured with great difficulty:)

[arr] Vairamuthu Nerams ( 1. Adhisayam, 2. Narumugaye, 3. Kanavaaa Kaatre 4. chandiranai Thottadhu yaar )

2008-07-29 Thread Vithur
Vairamuthu Neram

*Adhisayam song *

Isai Puyal A.R. Rahman and Dir Shankar have to be thanked for this moment.
We wrote a song titled ' Adisayam in jeans. We introduced newer strange
unique events and places in the song. The adhisayams that we had written
there are not the real Adhisayams ( strangeness) . Something happened
because of the song, which was the real Different thing to me, the real
adhisayam.

Whichever Strange places of happenings, which Tamilians would have never
seen, those strange places were picturised on this song. This was the thing
which gave me happiness and ecstasy. I was very happy and excited to know
that my tamil was associated with all the strange places and strange
happenings in the world. I would like to convey my gratitude to Shankar and
A.R. Rahman, for having reflected my tamil on all the strange places in the
world, through that song.

*Narumugaye song *– The song became very popular in all Universities,
Colleges and temples of Education.

I started thinking, why we cant express Science in our songs. Slowly, I
started inserting the knowledge that had gained in through my study,
experience into my songs. If we go in depth in science, the songs would
become like an essay. So, I measured it and wanted it to be said.

*Enakee Enakka ( Jeans ) *

Idhayam Thudipadhu Ninraalum, Irandor Nimidam Uyir Irukkum. Anbe Nee enai
Neenginal , Maruganam en uyir Taangadhu.

These lyrics are scientifically based. The death of the heart is not real
death. If the heart stops functioning, there are chances of it being able to
be made functional, by applying some sorts of pressure, or arresting it by
some means. The real death is the death of the brain. If the Oxygen doesn't
go and reach the brain within a certain period of time, the brain is dead.
The death of the brain is the whole death. The death of the heart is not
complete death. There are chances of the life coming back. That's why, the
lyrics go like, even if the heart stops functioning, I would be alive, but,
if you leave me, I cant bear it. I know, at which place, they would listen
to these lyrics. If I say it in a scientifica discussion, they would not
listen to it. If I say these in a stage, they would ask me to concentrate on
the poem and the script. When the same is kept at a place, when two lovers
speak , It fits well, just similar to how a tablet is inserted within sugar.
Love is inserted within some reasoning.

We have come to an age, when we have felt that nothing can be done forsaking
science and scientific reasoning. Anyway, there is no purpose in songs
reflecting the old moods. It's the modern feeling in the songs, which would
attract listeners.

(Chinna Chinna Mazhaituligal Sethu vaipeno – En Swasa Kaatre )

*Ratchagan – Kanavaa Neee Kaatre Song *

Director Pravinkant, Miss World Sushmitha Sen and their lover Nagarjun. The
hero and the heroine are waiting for the lift to carry them to the top floor
. But there is a power cut, and the lift is not functioning. The hero is in
a situation, where he has to go the top floor with his lover. The heroine
tells, that its difficult for her to go to the top floor by climbing, and
asks if she could be carried all through. He accepts it with happiness. So,
she asks if she wasn't heavy enough. Isnt my weight hurting you ?. At this
junction, there is a song. I thought of getting Archimedes principle at this
juncture.

Archimedes principle is that Bodies lose weight in water. When the lover
is carrying his loved through the steps, the man is not able to feel the
weight. When I thought over this, I thought if Archimedes principle could be
brought forward here, and made it to apply here. In water, objects are not
heavy. It loses weight. In the moon, man is not appearing with weight. Like
this water, and moon, Is love also a feeling, which makes one lose weight.
??. That is science, and this is a feeling. Science is reasoning, and Love
is a feeling. Without reasoning and logic, a feeling cannot achieve success.
Without the feeling, the Logic cant achieve fame. It's the work of Art to
unite this Logic and the Feeling.

*Chandiranai Thotthu Yaar Armstrong *

I wante d to try something new. After composing the tune of this song, A.R.
Rahman got a little bit upset with me. He wanted the lyrics , where the word
Armstrong happens to be changed. I asked him, why it has to be changed. He
said, it doesn't suit the music well. He told me, Chandhiranai Thotthudu
Yaar Armstrong aaa ?. The idea is good. The word strong aaa appears to be
little strong. This is a melody song. I sang it and showed him. I told him,
that it sits well within the tune of the song. But, he was telling that it
was disturbing the tune a bit. I told him, Let the singer come. Without
disclosing our difference of opinions, I would read the lyrics to him. Let
him sing it. While singing, if this word creates a problem, then we would
change it then. Else, if its comfortable, let us retain it.

Re: [arr] Kaissiom's Stolen Treasure! Sorry !

Well on another note, I do not find the song to be that high a quality as i
thought.

I have loved Wasim's files and i still treasure them, but I do not find this
file to be
that good. This file needs 50% more volume than what my mp3 does and is less
crisp.
Agreed that the surround is better , but that is about it.

[arr] Sivaji Hindi VCD released?

2008-07-29 Thread Naveen Naushad
I was going through Indiaplaza.in's movie collection and was surprised when
I stumbled upon this one. The title is *My Dear Sivaji (Tamil Film Dubbed in
Hindi). *Here is the VCD

http://www.indiaplaza.in/movies/other-genres/MV080324144824M2/all/my-dear-sivaji-tamil-film-dubbed-in-hindi.htm

The title has been released by Shemaroo, a very reputed home video company.
So this is no bootleg or pirated version. At first I thought it was some old
movie of Rajnikanth dubbed to hindi. But the covert art is indeed that of
tamil Sivaji, with the trademark blue *Sivaji* writing printed on the bottom
right. Star cast says Rajnikanth, Uma (?) and music director is listed as
Ilayaraja. I wonder if it is our Sivaji or some old movie dubbed now to cash
in on the Sivaji box office bash.

Has anyone seen this disc set on stores?

[arr] Working with A.R. Rahman was an amazing experience,

2008-07-29 Thread Vithur
Even though she had sung quite a few popular Telugu and Tamil songs, city
girl Bhargavi Pillai became a household name only very recently when her
song Pappu Can't
Dancehttp://myselebriti.com/2008/07/29/stand-out-with-campus-couture/#…
from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.. caught the imagination of youngsters across the
country.

When I was recording, I knew the song would be a funky one since I had
never come across such lyrics, says Bhargavi. But nothing prepared me for
the response I got. My friends have been telling me that most pubs in the
country are playing the song and how everyone is loving it. I am really
happy.
Working with A.R. Rahman was an amazing experience, confesses this talented
Hyderabadi singer who is now settled in Chennai. It's a great feeling to
work with Rahman sir. He liked my voice but initially during the recording I
was a bit uncomfortable and was not opening up. Rahman sir told me he wanted
an element of 'grudge' in my voice. We kept on listening and re-listening to
the tune, and finally I got in to the mood. It was a very refreshing
experience, says the singer.

Isai Puyal A.R. Rahman and Dir Shankar have to be thanked for this
moment.
We wrote a song titled ' Adisayam in jeans. We introduced newer strange
unique events and places in the song. The adhisayams that we had
written
there are not the real Adhisayams ( strangeness) . Something happened
because of the song, which was the real Different thing to me, the real
 adhisayam.

Whichever Strange places of happenings, which Tamilians would have never
seen, those strange places were picturised on this song. This was
the thing
which gave me happiness and ecstasy. I was very happy and excited to
know
that my tamil was associated with all the strange places and strange
happenings in the world. I would like to convey my gratitude to
Shankar and
A.R. Rahman, for having reflected my tamil on all the strange places
in the
 world, through that song.

These lyrics are scientifically based. The death of the heart is not
real
death. If the heart stops functioning, there are chances of it being
able to
be made functional, by applying some sorts of pressure, or arresting
it by
some means. The real death is the death of the brain. If the Oxygen
doesn't
go and reach the brain within a certain period of time, the brain is
dead.
The death of the brain is the whole death. The death of the heart is not
complete death. There are chances of the life coming back. That's
why, the
lyrics go like, even if the heart stops functioning, I would be
alive, but,
if you leave me, I cant bear it. I know, at which place, they would
listen
to these lyrics. If I say it in a scientifica discussion, they would not
listen to it. If I say these in a stage, they would ask me to
concentrate on
the poem and the script. When the same is kept at a place, when two
lovers
speak , It fits well, just similar to how a tablet is inserted
within sugar.
Love is inserted within some reasoning.

We have come to an age, when we have felt that nothing can be done
forsaking
science and scientific reasoning. Anyway, there is no purpose in songs
reflecting the old moods. It's the modern feeling in the songs,
which would
 attract listeners.

. But there is a power cut, and the lift is not functioning. The
hero is in
a situation, where he has to go the top floor with his lover. The
heroine
tells, that its difficult for her to go to the top floor by
climbing, and
asks if she could be carried all through. He accepts it with
happiness. So,
she asks if she wasn't heavy enough. Isnt my weight hurting you ?.
At this
junction, there is a song. I thought of getting Archimedes principle
at this
 juncture.

Archimedes principle is that Bodies lose weight in water. When
the lover
is carrying his loved through the steps, the man is not able to feel the
weight. When I thought over this, I thought if Archimedes principle
could be
brought forward here, and made it to apply here. In water, objects
are not
heavy. It loses weight. In the moon, man is not appearing with
weight. Like
this water, and moon, Is love also a feeling, which makes one lose
weight.
??. That is science, and this is a feeling. Science is reasoning,
and Love
is a feeling. Without reasoning and logic, a feeling cannot achieve
success.
Without the feeling, the Logic cant achieve fame. It's the work of
Art to
unite this Logic and the Feeling.

I wante d to try something new. After composing the tune of this
song, A.R.

the word

changed. He
said, it doesn't suit the music well. He told me, Chandhiranai

This is certainly a wrong stuff. I doubt Shemarooo will release the VCD,
when Ayngaran has taken the rights for releasing the film DVD, and has also
released the original tamil DVD version.

Secondly, who is the UMA Actresss ??. And where does Illayaraja come into

Total Confusion and pirated one I guess.. I doubt if this would be a

[arr] Ada, Rehman's comeback in his own style

2008-07-29 Thread Vithur
A typical one from Rahman that a first listen isn't worth enough to like it
or dislike it. When I listened to all of them 4-5 times, I gradually
eliminated Ishq Ada Hai (female version) and then the male version and then
Hai Dard by Udit Narayan and that's it, most of the rest of them will rhyme
on your ears especially AFTER you're done listening to them and are on your
way back home from office.

Here's how I would rank.

1. Meherbaan - a classic one from Rehman on his own voice.
2. Hawa Sun Hawa - The one and only Sonu Nigam and a comeback for Alka
Yagnik I would say.
3. Meherbaan instrumental - music keeps running on your mind when you ride
your bike or drive your car.
4. Milo Wahan Wahan - Another good one from Alka Yagnik
5. Gulfisha - A peppy one
6. Gum Sum - gives you a nostalgia of the Shivaji fame Vaa Ji Vaa Ji number
scored by Rehman himself.
7. Tu Mera Hai - Typical one of Chitra and is NOT a one of Rehman's style

2008-07-29 Thread Naveen Naushad
I checked Shemaroo's site and it looks like a dubbing of some old Rajini
movie with cover art using Sivaji's stills. Surprisingly it is a legitimate
release by Shemaroo. The director's name is given as Chandrasekhar and the
producers are Sanjesh Ahuja, Rajesh Ahuja, the same guys who dubbed Muthu
into hindi as Muthu Maharaja.

I suppose that solves the mystery.

This is certainly a wrong stuff. I doubt Shemarooo will release the VCD,
when Ayngaran has taken the rights for releasing the film DVD, and has also
released the original tamil DVD version.

Secondly, who is the UMA Actresss ??. And where does Illayaraja come into
 picture.

Total Confusion and pirated one I guess.. I doubt if this would be a
 rajni movie at all.

The title has been released by Shemaroo, a very reputed home video
company. So this is no bootleg or pirated version. At first I thought it was
some old movie of Rajnikanth dubbed to hindi. But the covert art is indeed
that of tamil Sivaji, with the trademark blue *Sivaji* writing printed on
the bottom right. Star cast says Rajnikanth, Uma (?) and music director is
listed as Ilayaraja. I wonder if it is our Sivaji or some old movie dubbed
now to cash in on the Sivaji box office bash.

Has anyone seen this disc set on stores?

3. Meherbaan instrumental - music keeps running on your mind when you ride your

4. Milo Wahan Wahan - Another good one from Alka Yagnik
5. Gulfisha - A peppy one
6.  Gum Sum - gives you a nostalgia of the Shivaji fame Vaa Ji Vaa Ji number

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra had created history with RANG DE BASANTI. The film
won accolades all over and turned out to be one of the biggest ever hits of
Aamir Khan's career. Not just it also added credibility to the then-upcoming
banner UTV; it also gave Mehra a shot in the arm after an ill-fated debut
with AKS. The film's release came at just the right time as well since it
coincided with Republic Day due to its 26th January, 2006 arrival.

Now it is pretty apparent that UTV and Mehra are continuing their connection
with the Republic Day since their next project DELHI 6, for which the
shooting is already through, is all set to arrive on a weekend which leads
to 26th January. Currently in post production, the film is all set to
release on 23rd January, 2009, hence giving DELHI 6 a four day weekend
leading to Monday, 26th January.

Starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor in lead with Amitabh Bachchan
and Waheeda Rehman in very special appearances, DELHI 6 also stars Anupam
Kher, Atul Kulkarni, Divya Dutta and Om Puri in key roles.

[arr] swades - we the people

2008-07-29 Thread Vithur
*http://paruvella.com/2008/07/29/swades-we-the-people/*
**
*Swades, *is one of those movies every NRI loves to relate himself to but a
very few truly get inspired by it. Beside his love for the country, Mohan
Bhargav had Kaveri Amma and the ever charming Geetha to pull him back after
his project assignment with *Nasha*. Cut to the real world, most of us
despite having our own kaveri amma (spelt family) and that certain element
of patriotism, we still tend to get hounded by unexplainable circumstances ,
uncomprehensible consequences and never retreat to swades and if we do its
more for a reason which sounds like enough is enough i need to go back for
my family and nothing else, which I think is perfectly alright. It takes
love for the masses and the urge to do great things for the country more
than the sense of personal (spelt family again) well-being that will drive
people to their *charanpurs *by giving a boot to the much loved lifestyle in
*vides*, I have to quote Melaram who says *apni chaukat ka diya giving
light to neighbours houze *.

Back to the movie, Ashutosh is for swades what sun is to solar system, he
draws first-rate performance from Shahrukh khan, we all know he can act and
ham if not controlled, but in this role as Mohan Bhargav, he is mesmerizing,
Kaveri Amma played by kishori ballal breaks the stereotype of mommy'ish
roles in Hindi cinema, Gayatri Joshi follows suit in similar fashion.

I relate to the loneliness that SRK feels in the US, I love those numerous
occasions when ashutosh uses symbolism and analogies to convey deeper
meanings and earthy feelings like SRK's feet on the plush floor mat and then
in the temple's holy water, the box of spices, his *Jaguar *in US and
triples ride on the scooter back in India, Flying to India in Executive
class, the trip to meet *Haridas- *on noisy trains, serene sail boats and
dingy buses*. *I loved *charanpur *and its characters in Eastman color, the
verandah inside the *chanranpur *home, I love the gullible Gaythri Joshi and
her head strong principles (or whatever) , conversations and arguments with
the village panchayat, I simply adore SRK's *Mohan Bhargav* for a certain *
phoren* swagger and sophitication that he displays early on, the naivity and
the self-exploration later in the movie, I love the music by AR Rahman, and
our song *Yeh jo des hai tera*, which never ceases to move me.

Wishing one day that I reach a stage where a diya from my chaukat gives
light to a whole neighborhood, I approve of Swades as one of the best
coming-of-age and awakening movies in history of Indian Cinema.

Just for the fact, *Chiranjeevi *on similar lines acted and produced a
*K.Balachander
*directed *Rudraveena*, which ofcourse is a milestone in Telugu cinematic
history.

Later!

Actually Recording the program is a very tough task. Because, unlike
Rahmania, this program is not entirely devoted for ARR. VM may talk abt
Illayaraja 's compositions, abt MSV s, and or in fact some songs of his own
choice from an unknown film in the 40s, 50s.

And the commercials, in betweeen kill the essence of the program I am
sure Aravind AM would know, how tough it is. Even recording Rahmania is
nowadays so tough. The commercials part is too high, compared to the content
part.

Rawat, What are you talking about?

I can't decide if you are being comical or sarcastic or I don't know.
Since when did Rahman get a reputation of creating music only for
the sons and daughters of rich and powerful who have top end systems
that cost a king's ransom to buy.?

That is a pretty absurd statement and I've only seen it coming from
you. All Rahman fans know what kind of layers and nuances Rahman adds
to his songs. These minute details can be better heard on high-end
systems with good quality audio but that doesn't undermine the
over-all likability or the shelf-life of the song. Quality of sound
has been a big plus in the West and is also expected in India as India
is progressing and people are being able to afford the next best thing.

Moving from cheap radio/transistor to a cassette player is a huge jump
in quality.. similarly moving from cassette player to a CD player is.
And so is moving from 128kbps to 2400kbps. We should be encouraging
people like wasim, AJ, Vithur and others who take great pains to rip
and upload these pieces. No wonder, kaissiom doesn't share anything
anymore because there are not enough people that appreciate high
quality music. Just like Thiruda Thiruda was too early for it's
time... this high quality is too early for it's time... it will be
better appreciated in 10 years, maybe.

P.S. This is a humble attempt from my side, and there may be errors.
I stand corrected. This is my first attempt in translating a poem, and
that too to the standards of Vaali Sir.

As a coincidence, this poem written by Vaali also starts with letter M
in english and ma varisi in tamil.

Muqala, Munbe vaa, munnal munnal vada, marudhani were some of the songs
written by Vaali under ARR's music which were all massive hits. Even
Vaali mentioned in one of his interviews about his sentiment of writing
the songs for ARR starting with letter M, that turned out to be hits.

In fact, when vairamuthu sir met ARR for the first time, for Roja,
our Boss
was sitting in a carpet in the ground with his keyboard, and
Vairamuthu Sir
exclaimed, Oh Dileep! is that you who is going to compose
music .

 and the rest is history.
