I moved the contents of the p80211, prism2_pci, prism2_plx, and prism2_usb subdirectories to a temporary hiding place (I just created a /root/hide directory), on the off chance that I might need them later. It should be safe to just rm them, but I'm not sure that the RPM manglers won't someday throw a hissy fit if they can't find everything they installed. Disk space is cheap, so I played it safe ;-) Then I ran a depmod -a, and now the right modules are being loaded. [Cooker] default postgresql encoding
Default postgresql encoding is determined when initdb is run, which currently takes place in /etc/init.d/postgresql service script. As this choice has some important consequences on subsequent server functionning, i'm not very happy having it running behind the scene without any way to configure it. Moreover, it default to SQL_ASCII, which seems to have broken UTF8 conversion, whereas LATIN1 would be more natural on Linux platform. Switching to LATIN1 as default (aka adding -E LATIN1 to initdc command in service script) would be a lesser evil IMHO. -- Disks are always full. It is futile to try to get more disk space. I had to make some tweaks to the configure script to get it all to play nicely together. [Cooker] printing to a Canon BJC-8500
Hello, I'm having something really strange happen with my printer here at work. I set up the printer, a Canon BJC-8500, for the purpose of sharing it on the network for my windows based friends. No problem. I used printerdrake, it found the printer right off the bat, I opened up webmin, went to samba configuration, made sure my friends had accounts, shared the printer, they mapped the printer, printed some test pages, the test pages came out fine, so I was done, right? Not exactly. When I print from my computer, the print jobs only take up about 2/3 of the page if I set the resolution to 360x360, and at 720x360 the pages come out taking up the same amount of space vertically, but horizontally they are stretched wider than the page (yuck). How could it be that the windows share to the printer works fine, but printing directly to the printer looks like crap? Could someone tell me where to start looking so I can try to fix this? -Elliott

I upgraded the gtk+2.0 to latest Cooker version (-3mdk), the problem persists, the error message above (undefined symbol) does not appear anymore. I narrowed the problem somewhat further - the problem is not in Nautilus, but in pixbuf handling of gif images. (not sure if it is a fault of gdk-pixbuf or gtk+). When trying to display a .GIF image via Eye of GNOME, there is a CORBA exception and no image is displayed. Displaying of JPEG images works. The same .GIF images display OK in GIMP (1.2.x series). [Cooker] nautilus + urpmi + gnome-terminal problem
hi, i'm using gnome-terminal... when i set up nautilus to draw the desktop, then: when i'm in a gnome-terminal, and urpmi something, then after the urpmi program finishes installing the packages, the gnome-terminals become completely unresponsive, they didn't even redraw the processor is at 100%.then after approx 40seconds they become ok. if i set up nautilus not-to-draw the desktop, this doesn't happen. any ideas ? thanks, gabor -- gpg key at www.keyserver.net signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part
