Re: [slim] Email support is not very impressive
Looks to me like you abandoned your previous thread. You had two responses that you didn't bother to respond to. You can't just expect people to start crawling out of the woodwork with all sorts of helpful suggestions when you don't bother to respond to those who did at least try to offer up some help - regardless if their attempts at assistance were helpful or not. To get a dialog going on the forums, you have to be an active participant. If this issue is causing you so much grief that you are considering uprooting your system and rolling the dice with another company's higher priced & less flexible products, why not put forth the minimal effort required to place a phone call to support before throwing in the towel?Personally I've found email support and even serious sales inquiries via email pretty sketchy from practically all companies these days. FWIW, the one time I had an issue with my squeezebox, I called Logitech support and was met with a friendly & helpful crew that got my issue taken care of straight away. -- 86atc250r 86atc250r's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15476 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54773 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Distortion during loud tracks - my amp is too sensitive - what to do?
I've turned off volume control, and RG on my SB3. My marantz SR-45 had a tendancy to distort audio coming from its paired CD player - which I used to address via it's own volume control. Anyway, its evident that my amp is too sensitive for the Sb3 outputs too. The specs for my amp say: Input sensitivity - 185mV/47Ω. I assume I need to adjust the Preamp Volume Control, but does anyone know how to calculate exactly how much? Re: [slim] SqueezeBox3 slow response
No immediate solution to your issue, but some questions and observations: 1. 3ms ping to Google is false, unless you're physically in their data center :) Something weird is happening with the network stack when it enters this low power mode. 2. What makes you say that the music is still streaming although control doesn't work? Is it just that the music is still playing? That could simply be the buffer on the SB playing out. My suspicion is that the network interface is being shut down - that would explain the lack of SB control and might go someway to explaining the weird ping results. 3. Can you still browse web sites after the timeout? Including ones you haven't got cached? If so, does that raise the power consumption again? -- radish radish's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=77 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53686 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Remote Control Issues
Hey All, I lost my remote control about a month back, and recently figured out how to use a Universal Remote with the JVC DVD codes to talk to the squeezebox, so I have it back up and running now. It was defunct for a while because we recently changed our security settings in our apartment, so it wasn't connecting at all. Its back on the network now, but since the Squeezecenter on my computer is upgraded, the new remote has no "Brightness" button for me to press and hold, so it won't upgrade the firmware in the SB. I doubt this is problem, but it's worth asking before chasing other explanations: are you browsing by Music Folders? [slim] Why does external HDD = slow navigation?
I wasn't too happy with the performance of navigating my music, this goes for the web interface (especially browsing album art) and the controller interface (slow album art) and the Boom for that matter (fast scrolling on the wheel). I have SC on a XP laptop and my music(and artwork) was on a external USB 2.0 HDD. As I could see that, all the actions described above, resulted in activity on my external HDD, I decided to invested in a new, larger, internal HDD for my laptop (to fit all my music). And suddenly the performance is much much better. The artwork displays almost instantly on the webinterface, and scrolling with artwork on the controller is also much better and the same goes for the Boom (text only, but stil much better). I thought that the all the relevant metadata used for navigation was stored in the database underneath the SC installation (laptop internal HDD) and that SC only needed to access my external HDD when I'm actually playing some music. So why am I seeing this improovement in performance by mooving the music to the internal disc? -- Letten Letten's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16718 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55016 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] SB3 suddenly doesn't start playing song
Hi, I ran into a curious situation, where SB3 suddenly started getting stuck when starting playing a song. It shows that it starts, showing the song progress bar after a long-ish while, but then nothing happens. It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a flac or mp3, or even Internet radio stream. Otherwise the player is very responsive, it doesn't freeze. I have booted the server and verified that I can play the same songs with Foobar2000 from the server (over slower network connection), there seems to be no general problem with the server. This started after I tried to play a song that was supposed to be a 5.1 DTS file. Could this have gotten something stuck in the player somehow? Is there a way to reset the player, or what else could I try to do to fix this? Re: [slim] What the farthest you have gotten a signal with a Duet?
The Boom and the SBR have worked at approx 85'. I've never tried farther than that. The SBC since I've been trying 7.3 has picked up that far and maybe a hair farther. All three were out side with the router being inside. I can accurately measure it if you want. I'm basing it on my family room being 12' wide, the deck being 15' wide, the deck around the pool being 10', the pool 40' and then where I place the SB's about another 10' from there. It's almost a straight line and on the same horizon. Howard BTW, no where near that far once you leave the level the router is on. No problems with the SBR or Boom, but the SBC doesn't pick up that well upstairs. Lots of junk between the router and the bed room. -- Howard Passman .and still waiting for extra cradles.. Re: [slim] Future of SB3 ?
I cannot imagine the SB3 being discontinued without an evolutionary replacement in the pipeline to follow it up. IMO, there is still a market for a player with a display. If I could only have either a Duet or an SB3, I would choose an SB3. The usefulness of the display for weather and time is a significant feature for me. It's also quite stable. The Duet is great but IMHO bugs are still being shaken out of it. I just ran into a scenario myself where I have 2 servers and can switch the SB3s between them but not the Duet. More major features are being added (playback through the controller) which will certainly need time to stabilize too. The SB3 must be a cash cow at this point since the guts of it were designed back when the SB2 was introduced. The thing I think they would be worried about is parts obsolescence. The Duet was introduced about a year ago and was a radical change with the introduction of the controller. Certainly they are still recouping development costs on it. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 1 duet, 1 receiver. Is this intended for I.E. only? I notice there is no shuffle status in Firefox, but other than that it looks pretty good. For this project, I used IE because it is built into Windows XP Home which is driving the remote LCD monitor in the family room. I didn't want to clog it up with a bunch of software nor have people interact with it. The PC, being really small (about the size of desktop hard drive) is hidden behind the couch and has a wireless keyboard/mouse which I keep in a cabinet. Should work on any browser since it is just HTML. I just tested it on Firefox and the shuffle status appears normally. However, I noticed that the track info has moved to below the album art instead of to the right of it. Interesting. Can you post a screenshot? One other thing I did was comment out your comment tag. In HTML you generally use . Thanks for the tip. I found the reference somewhere and assumed all browsers interpreted it. I changed it to use the tag. Also, what size is all your album art, or what size do you find is needed to look acceptable? Approx 50% of my album art is around 300x300. The other half of the art is 500x500. I think 500x500 looks better while not being too big. The HTML code does enlarge the image a bit, which slightly distorts the 300x300 image while the 500x500 looks really great. Still, 300x300 seems acceptable for this pupose. However, I would like to convert my 300x300 art someday. -- starfleetcommand starfleetcommand's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20604 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53975 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

The other day I was getting dropouts playing FLAC files to my SBC at around 60 feet from the router, including through one exterior wall. [slim] How to configure music files on USB HD using UBUNTU
I have tried for some good time now to get SqueezeServer (running as service) under Ubuntu to be able to access my My Book external 500GB VFAT hard disk with my music collection. Any clues? (or vice versa) When you press the create text mix button in the MIP headless, look at the Port number in the URL string ie. http://localhost:1000x ??? Then make sure to use the 1000x everywhere in SC/Sugarcube etc. If its not that, then it is likely firewall settings or AV blocking the 1000x port. Additional tests you can do, is start the API in the MIP GUI settings and see if SugarCube starts working. Which would indicate whether that Port is blocked by something. I rolled back from 7.3 as I found it unstable and the new MIP patch just chewed my library up, you might want to drop back to 7.2.1 and just bite the bullet on long import times. Re: [slim] Nokia Comes with Music
Yes keep forever. The deal is available on PAYG mobiles as well as contract. If you buy a Nokia 5310 from Orange they are £130 on PAYG. This then gets you a 12 month subscription to Nokia's music service where you can download any of 2.1 million tracks they have. Once downloaded they are yours to keep forever. The snags are that you can only use them on one computer (although they will allow you to transfer them to another once the computer dies - the idea is they are only available on one computer at a time) and you can only play them on your nokia phone. Seems a great deal to me. Only problem is I already have a PAYG Nokia 5310 and the downloads are only available with a newly purchased phone! As for the 5310 - it is a good phone and the sound quality as a portable music player is very good, better than most other phones I have heard and as good as most mp3 players too. It can only have a max. of 8gb memory, but that is quite a good anmount really. You might also give SqueezePlay a try on your setup when it's released with 7.3, which in full screen mode has a Now Playing display similar to yours (though the art doesn't scale as well on a big monitor yet). -- Skunk http://www.last.fm/user/TheSkunk/ Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53975 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

But playing and navigating on the iTouch would be best. No, it doesn't download the whole file. But it uses QuickTime on iPhone, which will download parts of the file in chunks of 5MB and buffer it. Plenty of time for your connection to come back on outagages. Navigation with the skin is only basic, but the QT screen coming up allows you to navigate within the track. -- pippin --- see iPeng at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54336 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Glad to hear it :) I appreciate companies have to protect their trademarks etc, I was just fearful that they were going to be overzealous. Can someone protect something like 'Squeeze' surely that is just a word? Maybe its different because the product is blatantly connected to the SqueezeServer world? -- robroe robroe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14248 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54336 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] SC 7.2 Ubuntu does not play ALAC
I could not play a .m4a file. But I went to http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AAC and edit my /etc/squeezecenter/convert.conf file to add in the text it said. But then mine would play static on .m4a songs. So I deleted the -x from the text file and now it's playing my .m4a music very good again. I had to do a: apt-get install faad Allso to get it to work. Then just restart it with: /etc/init.d/squeezecenter restart -Raymond Day -- Raymond Day Raymond Day's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1332 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=52048 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I had the same problem with the controller freezing upon entering artists that had multiple albums. When entering artists that had only a single album, controller worked fine. This was on my ReadyNAS DUO with SC 7.2.1 installed. Then, out of curiosity, I tried installing SC 7.2.1 on my WinXP box, just to see how that worked. I then connected my controller to the SC on the WinXP box, and all of a sudden, the controller had some new SW downloaded from the SC on the WinXP box. The controller has since worked fine, also after I switched back to the SC on the ReadyNAS. Maybe I was just lucky, but as a workaround maybe it could work for you to, if you have a win box, no guarantees though :-) regards Lars -- Lars-dk Lars-dk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54532 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] power on resume problem
I have solved my original problem - it was caused by a misbehaving universal remote that was sending an extra command (the play/stop toggle) before the power-off command. I've fixed the remote and it works as intended now.
