[Audyssey] Number Memory Game

2008-03-02 Thread ari
Hi all,
I know DanZ Memory and some other simon games which use sounds, but I want a
memory game, something like Tarzan Junior's, where the thing just uses
numbers or objects. Anything out there? I like the Kim game of 7128, but
what I don't like about it is that it stops and gives you a score, it should
just carry on with more objects!
Thanks
Ari

Hi James,
Are you saying that blindprogramming doesn't exist anymore? What does this

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Game Engine?

2008-03-02 Thread Bryan
I would assume it would create an exe file. That's what we install on our
computers after all. But David's price has always been rather steeper than
we average blindies can afford.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

Hi,

I think the sega emulator is good especially if you're running an older
computer or if you just want the games to be snappy. either that or super

Re: [Audyssey] bug with jim kitchens monopoly

2008-03-02 Thread Gary Whittington
Awh, that's sad to here.
As you said that you don't want to touch this problem even for your most
popular game to be included.
Still to switch out of the Monopoly game to do something to help others play
in a Voice Chat room, the host still needs not only to save the game but
bring it back up and resume the game.
To leaving the game like that Jimmy is not very user friendly, even if the
game is free.

My suggestion, is to build a function that could fit all your games.
What I see is a "Pause" function. Gamers who need to pop out of the game
say to take instant message or what ever can pause the game.
This function usually consists of the keyboard only accepting the toggle
switch to resume the game, while other keystrokes like Alt-tab could be
invoke.

For Tom I do hope you have a pause feature in Raceway, when one really needs
a real Pit stop. Wink.

In addition to the list of issues below I didn't like the fact there was

Re: [Audyssey] GMA Game Engine?

2008-03-02 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi James,
Last time I talked to David about his engine he said it is being
currently upgraded, and it is currently unavailable to the public. What
I know about it through talking to David Greenwood is that it is written
in Visual Basic 6, and most level creating is done through using a
special form that allows you to create walls, triggers, set attack
damage, etc. It then saves the level data to a *.gm file which is loaded
into the engine at runtime and restores your game settings and sounds.

Re: [Audyssey] people interested in accessible games?

2008-03-02 Thread Tom Randall
Hi Tyler sounds great. I have not gotten into any of the "newer" game
systems however as a lot of you know my whole initial gaming experience
was on the old Atari computers and systems long before there was any
such thing as accessible games. It's not something that I am interested
in sinking a whole lot of money into or anything but I may pick up
either a Sega or one of the sony consoles if I find one cheap and can
decide which would be best. That might be something good to include in
your podcast which consoles are good to start out with in your opinion
and so forth.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Tom

Hi all,

I am curious to know if anyone out there would be interested in me doing
a podcast on accessible games, and demonstrating a few? I'll be using an
emulator, and for some reason the nintendo 64 emulator won't let me use
the c button (I may have to experement with other emulators), so some
things I may not be able to do.

games I may show:
 cruis'n USA
Cruis'n world and exotica
sanfransisco rush
sanfransisco rush 2049
rush 2: extreme racing
killer instinct gold
super smash brothers, perhaps, if I can get the c buttons working. Um,
I'm trying to think what else. Not mortal kombat; I can't find it. hmmm.
perhaps MRC racing.
gt64 championship addition, perhaps?
uh, what else. pokemon stadium is a maybe, I need to see if I can find
my real copy so I can fool around with it

That there will make a very long podcast, I'm thinking of, perhaps,
doing it in multiple epps, for example, one podcast per game? I also may
throw in a few sness games and sega genisus games; if I can find any.

what yall think?

Have a good day from Tyler C. Wood!

Re: [Audyssey] lightning reaction

2008-03-02 Thread Tom Randall
Hi Everett and all.

If memory serves, there used to be an old arcade game something like
this, I seem to remember playing it way back in the day down on the
boardwalk in Santa Cruz CA where I used to live. Anyhow yeah definitely
do keep us updated. Btw yes it is true you can get a pair of rc tanks
that have built in laser tag units in them that will deliver a shock to
the controler of the person whose tank is hit. I've not actually bought
one of these sets but I have seen them online and they are not terribly
expensive.

Best,

Tom

Hello all!
Has anyone ever played lightning reaction? It's one of these classic
handhelds which pays you back by shocking you if you lose. Each one of
you grabs a handle which is attached to the base of the game by a wiry
thingy and I believe there is a button in the middle which someone
presses to get the game going. Suspensful music is played and you have
to wait until it stops and be the fastest one to press the button,
otherwise you get a pretty healthy electrical jolt -- nothing to kill
you but it certainly makes you wana win! Great stuff! I only briefly saw
my friends, but I do plan to get one of my own in the near future and
I'l be sure to update everyone if this gets a lot of interest. Everett

2008-03-02 Thread robjoy
Hello,
Indeed, blind programming has changed a lot. I don't think so you would
find any good IF-related article, or anything regarding IF on it though.
There is an IF demo, called Cloak. It's like the Hello world in
programming, a very basic story with 3 rooms, 2 objects and a simple
puzzle to solve. On jacl.sf.net you can find the implementation in JACL
format, and also you will find other implementations, like in hugo,
alan, inform 6 and 7, tads, etc. You can check it out and see which IF
authoring system is good for you.

Hi Rob and Trouble, thanks for these, just one other question, have you
guys
tried Alan and what is it like? I'm asking because I also like it's
interface when playing games. I'll try inform and see what happens, but is
there a guide for beginners? I know even for programming, Tom talks about
Safari, but I wanted to also look on blindprogramming, and, I don't know if
it's just me, but the site seems totally weird! I remember in the old days
there were tutorials and stuff, but now there's this weird login screen
which doesn't even seem to have anything to do with blindprogramming anyway!

Re: [Audyssey] writing a text adventure

2008-03-02 Thread robjoy
Hello Ari et all,
Inform 7, at least with jfw, is mostly accessible. It has two windows,
the "coding" area where you actually enter your story mostly in full
english sentences, and the second window is the viewer, where the
program displays it's messages like compile status, errors, help pages,
examples, etc.
Features like the built in inform interpreter, skein, keywords list are
not accessible, but to write your code, to compile and see the errors
it's perfect. You can test your story with an external interpreter, like
Zoom for the mac, frotz, etc.
Inform 7 has an excellent help system, with many many examples and
because the mode you're writing your stories is almost like natural
english, it is extremely easy to learn and use. It's portable, there are
interpreters for windows, linux, mac, even for pacmates.
I've tried lots of if authoring systems which are programming-based, but
since almost every one uses a c-syntax, i did not like them. There is
one however, called JACL, which is extremely easy to learn if you have
basic programming skills (no matter in which language). It is not that
popular, in fact, the author told me i am the only person using it at
the moment, but i hope that will change soon.
It runs on linux, can run on windows under cygwin, and probably on the
mac too.
I say, if you want to write stories easily and you don't know how to
program, go for inform. If you do know, go for JACL, it's much easier
than tads, inform 6 or others.
You can download the Inform 7 environment at:
http://www.inform-fiction.org
and you can get JACL at:
http://jacl.sf.net

Hi all,
I remember asking this ages ago, and someone suggested that, without any
knowledge of programming, you could use inform to write a text adventure,
but that it wasn't too great for screen readers. What I want to know is,
even using programming, what's the most accessible package to write text
adventures in, and what's the difference between them. If you also don't
know programming, isn't there maybe an quickstart guide somewhere for a
text
adventure writer?
Thanks

The GMA game engine was originally created in 1999 using VisualBasic6 for
the Shades of Doom game and a lot of things built in it have to do with
features in that game.
With a password and a secret file, a developer can unlock the development
mode.
This allows you to create a map and place walls, objects and creatures on
it.
It also gives you access to data bases that allow you to create objects,
creatures and weapons.
When you create an object you must fill out a form that has many edit and
check boxes for such things as size and what type of sound the object uses.
Creatures have many edit boxes including ones for speed and size.
There is also a field for the name of a trigger that will be activated if a
certain thing happens.
For example if you touch a creature the trigger will be set off.
The next thing you need to do is to list these triggers in a text document
and then tell the game what should happen when the trigger is set off.
A trigger name could be,
TouchGhost1:
Then you must list the sound that will be played and how touching the ghost
will affect you,
for example if you have hit points or energy points the touch can reduce
them.
That is about all I can tell you as many details of the engine are secret.
You can not try the engine out at this time as
David Greenwood is working on the engine right now but he says at some time
in the future, he may again make it available.
Phil

Hi Jeremy,

My problem would still be reviewing the board so as to figure out what move you
wanted to make. You know just like you want to do while playing Clue, Headache
or Parcheesi etc.

- Original Message -
ah,
it is somewhat, you draw cards that tells you how many places to move, there
are places where you can slide down several spots or if you draw a card you
can swap places with another player or put another player back in there
home, the first person to get there pieces out from there home and back in
it wins... there is also a certain card that you have to pull or dice i
can't remember now that you have to have in order to even get a piece moved
out from your home to start around the b oarde.

2008-03-02 Thread Jim Kitchen
Hi Thomas,

Yeah, I do understand people wanting to multi task or be able to alt tab in and
out of games. Especially like when they are playing them in the chat rooms.
The thing was that I did not know how to handle the alt f4 thing, so just
trapped the alt key. I now know how to handle the alt f4 stuff. So I do
handle it differently in my games now, but am not going to go back and redo and
re-release all 26 of my Windows games just for that one little change that only
effects things in particular situations.

I know it all, I just can't remember it all at once.

Re: [Audyssey] Audioquake

2008-03-02 Thread shaun everiss
This is due to the world war 2 extention of quake.
if you are registered, rename sounds.pak to pak2.pak, backup the old pak2.pak
first.
If you use the shareware version then pak2.pak is pak1.pak.
if you have pak2.pak, and name the ww2 sounds.pak pak3.pak then you get this
message.
read the readme again, then rename the files, and then do what I did, which was
backup the entire folder the id1 folder that is to cd.
At 09:02 p.m. 2/03/2008, you wrote:

[Audyssey] writing a text adventure

2008-03-02 Thread ari
Hi all,
I remember asking this ages ago, and someone suggested that, without any
knowledge of programming, you could use inform to write a text adventure,
but that it wasn't too great for screen readers. What I want to know is,
even using programming, what's the most accessible package to write text
adventures in, and what's the difference between them. If you also don't
know programming, isn't there maybe an quickstart guide somewhere for a text
adventure writer?
Thanks

I have a problem with audio Quake.

But I have already registered.
What does that mean?
