How can I get additional infor for appstats advanced configuration ?

I want to disable appstats for remote_api handler.

- url: /_ah/remote_api
   script: google.appengine.ext.remote_api.handler.application
   login: admin

Thanks so much.

Saludos.

[google-appengine] Re: Outages?

2012-04-12 Thread Rui Oliveira

> Hi,
>

My appId is air-menu1. HRD.

I'm getting this kind of errors always after deploy. Usually after deploy
the site only cames alive after 10 - 30 minutes.
Yesterday for the first time, 24 hours after deploy the site stop
completely during 6 hours.
6 Continuous hours without answering one single request. This start without
any kind of modification on the program or database.
Am I alone? No one more is having this kind of problems?

After this kind of errors start always that I refersh the browser the
server starts a new instance... So it's easy to have a lot of instances in
some minutes.

I'm waiting to solve this issue to start business. My company has been
working on this site during the last 10 month...

Please Help Me. This is very very serious...

Sincerely

Rui

http://aws.typepad.com/aws/2012/04/amazon-cloudsearch-start-searching-in-one-hour.html/

I think it's unfortunate that AWS (which started from IAAS and is now
branching into PAAS) has released rich search functionality before GAE
(which has always been PAAS only). AWS Dynamodb as of now does not compete
favourably against the datastore, but ... it's software. And the value
proposition (feature-set wise) of AWS PAAS is getting better quickly, while
still affording full IAAS functionality with regular price reductions to go
with it. And the AWS team has always been a big team, and constantly hiring
(we always used to hear GAE team talk of its small size).

I know I'm ranting. Folks here know I've invested a lot into GAE and only
want its success, if nothing else so my investment didn't go in the drain.
Take this for what it is.

Sounds like your startup time exceeds the max (60s?) time for a request.

You need to cut down your app startup time.

I still need an answer to this. The RegEx runs great on GAE but not in the

And yes, my RegEx is actually 47k.

2012-04-12 Thread Matthew Jaggard
Wow, that's some crazy regex.

Can you confirm that it runs correctly on your local JVM outside of the
DevServer. If not, then this isn't a GAE issue - you need to find out why
from your JVM provider. Maybe Google use 64bit and you use 32bit? Or
different vendors (OpenJDK vs Sun vs whatever)?

Mat.

My apps use transactional tasks to defer transactions across entity
groups.
This behavior has been working for over a year.

Many of my transactions can't complete due to this changed behavior.
I know, we now can use cross group transactions. But shouldn't the
previous version remain supported for 3 years?

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Outages?

2012-04-12 Thread Rui Oliveira

>

Thanks for your reply.

The strange is that I have 5 modules inside my application. All of the
requests to the different modules fail at the same time. All the modules
call different functions. All my functions are very small. My database is
really small at the moment.

I don't do nothing on the startup. Should I? My client side after start
just call one or two functions on the server side. Very simple and small
functions.

I turn off precompile just to test but it doesn't solve.

Yesterday night after 6 hours with the application stopped, just started
running like magic. When I wake up today morning the app was on the air
completely ok.

Sincerely

Rui Oliveira

[google-appengine] Appstats traceback's need some love

2012-04-12 Thread Jason Collins
We used to have really helpful tracebacks in appstats that pointed to
our actual source.

Somewhere along the way, we lost them, leaving us with things like
this:

Stack:
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_rpc.py:1165
make_rpc_call()
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_query.py:2381
_make_query_result_rpc_call()
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_query.py:2190
create_async()
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_rpc.py:93
positional_wrapper()
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_query.py:1787
run_async()
  /google/appengine/datastore/datastore_query.py:1657 run()
  /google/appengine/api/datastore.py:1595 GetBatcher()
  /google/appengine/api/datastore.py:1616 Run()
  /google/appengine/ext/db/__init__.py:2010 run()
  /google/appengine/ext/db/__init__.py:2091 fetch()
[This is the bottom of the traceback.]

Any possible way to get back the helpful tracebacks?

[google-appengine] Re: Disable appstats on app.yaml

2012-04-12 Thread Jason Collins
You can filter in appengine_config.py like this:

appstats_FILTER_LIST = [{'PATH_INFO': '!^/your/unwanted/handler/here/
$'}]

The "!" at the front tells appstats that you don't want that in your
recording.

google/appengine/ext/appstats/sample_appengine_config.py has a whole
bunch of other goodness in it.

your can enlarge the depth of the appstats traceback by adding an

add the following parameter

Wow, that's some crazy regex.

Can you confirm that it runs correctly on your local JVM outside of the
DevServer. If not, then this isn't a GAE issue - you need to find out why from
your JVM provider. Maybe Google use 64bit and you use 32bit? Or different
vendors (OpenJDK vs Sun vs whatever)?

Well you dont need to run the whole code. Just extract the regular expression.

But you really do need to narrow it down to where the underlying issue
is. Removing components from the situation is a good way to narrow it
down. Repeat until find the exact cause. Sort of a binary search :)

[google-appengine] Site stopped responding?!

2012-04-12 Thread Stirman
My app engine app, mobaganda.com, has been running for years and I
literally haven't touched the code in a 3 or 4 years. Suddenly this
week the site is rendering only a "<"! No idea why, no errors in the
logs.

I had renewed my domain name last week, so I figured it was related,
but according to them... "The IP address 64.233.179.121 (which is
associated with the domain name through the A record) is not
resolving. Please contact your service provider for further
assistance."

Any ideas? Many thanks!

The appspot.com version does the same thing, so I don't think it's a DNS issue.

Please describe the problem in a lot more detail. You're speaking as
if we understand what's going on. Nobody does. Fail silently? What
does that mean? The tasks don't execute but stay in the queue? The
tasks don't get added to the queue? If you want help, you have to do
a lot more than say "my app is broken".

I enqueue transactional tasks all the time. I use this to string out
a transactional operation across dozens of entity groups. It works
fine.

Re: [google-appengine] Re: Outages?

2012-04-12 Thread Jeff Schnitzer
Look in the logs for startup requests, and check the amount of time
they take to complete.

It's possible you have an app that normally loads in a few seconds,
but a hiccup at google extended those few seconds into a time that
extended past the deadline. This would be something to complain
about. However, since it sounds like you haven't checked those
numbers, it's likely that your app normally takes large amounts of
time to start up and normal load fluctuation pushed it over the edge.
That means this problem is going to happen again and again and again.

Check your startup time. If it's over 30s, you should start
investigating ways to fix it. Keep in mind that the biggest problem
for app startup is (usually) loading jars off the incredibly-slow
filesystem. The usual culprits are having a large number of jars
and/or using tools like Spring that do classpath scanning.

Re: [google-appengine] Google checkout must die

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for venting, this is a vicious cycle that needs to be fixed. We've
addressed several issues that land people in the 'Free' => 'Activating...'
=> 'Free' bucket. These fixes will be rolled out with 1.6.5.

Next? Look into speeding up Checkout all together.

[google-appengine] Re: Site stopped responding?!

2012-04-12 Thread powera (App Engine Reliablity)
Hi --

As part of a recent change, a very small number of apps that had not
been deployed in the past 3 years would break without manual
intervention on our part or a redeployment on your part. I thought
they had all been fixed before the change was rolled out, but
apparently your app was not. I've manually fixed this app and am
going to double-check no other apps are in this state.

[google-appengine] Re: AWS releases cloud search

2012-04-12 Thread Adam Sah
actually, after a year+ watching things develop, I'm glad we chose to roll
our own from Apache/SOLR/Lucene and *not* go with a cloud service:
 - finer-grained controls over which fields are included and how they're
weighted
 - very fine-grained controls over ranking
 - use of the search engine as (another) data source for datamart/warehouse
queries, e.g. stats about our database.
 - extremely fast
 - very very cheap-- $20/mon including redundancy.
 - near-zero maintenance (in practice)

[google-appengine] Re: App stuck in Awaiting Recurring Charge Cancellation, re-enable billing?

2012-04-12 Thread Tom Carchrae

Argh. This is like limbo/punishment! I turned on Billing because,
thanks to some dev work, I blew through the free quota. I turned it
off the following day (after midnight) and it seems the quota did not
get re-set.

Why does it take so long to Cancel billing? I'm now stuck with
an app that is broken. I'd like to turn it back on immediately (or
get the quota reset properly)

I would be very grateful for some quick help/support. I'll even
pay!  :/

[google-appengine] We have an index record for null value?

2012-04-12 Thread David Hardwick
And how are you?

I see records in our custom index for what I know is a null value.
 Meaning, we index a string field on the model and it needs to be a custom
index.

However, this field is not required to be filled out by the user, and 9
times out of 10 this field is not filled out by a user...but based on the
index statistics, I can see that we have an index record regardless if that
value is filled in or if it is null. Why write to the index for a null
value?

Is this expected behavior and we have to take a custom index approach to
not get charged index writes for null values? Or is this a known issues
that will be addressed at some point?

Rock on,
  -Hardwick

Re: [google-appengine] We have an index record for null value?

2012-04-12 Thread Jeff Schnitzer
Nulls are perfectly reasonable things to index. Sometimes nulls are
what you want to query for.

What you want is called a 'partial index'. The facility to do partial
indexes exists in GAE, but how to do it depends on your data access
layer. Are you python (db or ndb?) or java (jdo/jpa, objectify,
low-level?).

In Objectify-land it looks something like this:

@Index(IfNotNull.class) String name;

You can get effectively the same effect by flagging certain values as
not saved. But there are so many apis and so many ways to do this
that I wouldn't want to try to list them all here.

I update the app to another apps pot and it is working perfectly.
After using long, it again give very similar error on next day. So I

There must be some limit on using app_identity_service on free quota.

I am just using app_identity_service for updating our Google Sites.

We too are facing the slow task execution rate problem. Tasks are integral
to our app. I've logged a production issue here -

http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=7337

Anyone else facing the issue please star and leave a comment on the above
issue with your app ids.

[google-appengine] Share data among instances

2012-04-12 Thread Ady
Hello,

I know this has been discussed before but there was no conclusion to
it (at least I couldn't find an acceptable workaround for that). My
problem is that the Singleton can't be implemented using GAE because
of it's instances. I need a storage where I can have different data
types that are faster then the database and all the instances have
access to it.

A solution I read about is using the mem-cache, but I don't find it
acceptable because it can be emptied whenever it runs out of memory.
Do you have any idea how I can share a container of data among all the
instances without using databases ?

Thanks guys

i still cannot solve my problem.

what i need to achieve is
query the database, to avoid duplicate record to store inside it.

Some of my records have null value, so when i create a query to do
checking. it creates problem.

there are 2 ways to retrieve record.
1. GQL
2. Filter

i'd try both but none of it give me correct result (either 0 or all
record returned)

Query query = pm.newQuery(beanProperty.class, "source ==
'IProperty' && contactName == 'Kian Law' && propertyEstate == null");
List listResult = (List)query.execute();

Query query = pm.newQuery(beanProperty.class);
query.setFilter("source == paramSource && contactName ==
paramContactName && propertyEstate ==" + null);
query.declareParameters("String paramSource");
query.declareParameters("String paramContactName");
query.declareParameters("String paramPropertyEstate");

Map args = new HashMap();
args.put("paramSource", "IProperty");
args.put("paramContactName", "Kian Law");
args.put("paramPropertyEstate", null);
List listResult =
(List)query.executeWithMap(args);

[google-appengine] Firebird

Hello, I am creating an application that uses a database developedin
Firebird. I managed to launch my application in Google AppEngine, and runs
correctly, but when it comes time to access thedatabase shows me the
following message:

"No suitable driver found for jdbc: FirebirdSQL:201.216.174.138/3050 :/
firebird
/ ABACUSBK.FDB? Encoding =UTF-8"

When I load the application on a linux server with tomcat, so good, but when
 installed in Google App Engine show me this message.

Is there any way to load the driver jaybird in google server or as I should?

I appreciate your valuable help.

Best regards.

I am too receiving error messages and serving issues at least two apps,

com.google.apphosting.api.ApiProxy$ArgumentException: An error occurred parsing

Shutting down the instance fixes it until it pops up again.

Yes, that's the same problem. It seems to be affecting a very small
number of apps right now. I've fixed your app as well as a few others
that seem to be having this problem.

For other people seeing a similar problem, updating that issue with
your app id is probably the fastest way to get resolution if you see
this issue.

[google-appengine] Re: Help! I'm hungery - My app for my wife's recipes fails to load

2012-04-12 Thread powera (App Engine Reliablity)
As part of a recent change, a very small number of apps that had not
been deployed in the past 3 years would break without manual
intervention on our part or a redeployment on your part. Our initial
effort to fix all of these pre-emptively unfortunately missed some of
those apps. We're rolling out a fix to these apps over the next few
hours; since your app id is not in the message I can't fix your app
manually now.

2012-04-12 Thread nischalshetty
Thank you. The execution rate seems to have picked up (still a lot of
pending tasks). Hoping it gets cleared soon. I'll update you if the
execution rate drops again.

Once again, thanks a lot for fixing this.
