zBlock does not seem to cause any issues that we can attribute to zBlock,
Mani on the other hand is a different story.

All our competition servers run zBlock and so do all our public CSS servers.

Hell, our CSS DeathMatch Servers are the most stable we have, and they all
run zBlock, Metamod, Matties es_rates script, & Stripper, but NO Mani.

Our bookable and Competition servers only ever had issues when we had Mani
on them and tried to disable the plugin.

Our Public Servers though have Mani, and funnily enough some of the SRCDS on
the same box run fine, whilst others can't seem to make it through a whole
map rotation without some sort of issue.

I've also been using zBlock (max) since its release with no issues on 5
different servers: CSS, DODS, HL2DM, HL2CTF, GES. Thanks for the great

That might be cvarblock plugin. It's known to lock certain cvars and
preventing you from changing them until you restart the game completely..

The cvar is being slammed to 1 by several 3rd party plugins (I am not sure
why), and once it is set the setting stays with you until you manually
change it. We are looking at ways of preventing plugins for breaking clients
like this but in the meantime please review any plugins you have installed
and make sure they do not do this behavior.

cl_minmodels 0 fix in the steam forums, and since i've changed it to
0 I've rejoined our server several times and all the models display
fine without
having to re-enter the cvar manually each time i rejoin. So it
doesn't look
like the server's forcing a cvar change. Looks more like the update is
forcing the cl_minmodels cvar to 1 on clients when they get todays
update,
and once it's changed back to 0 it's fine from there.

So it looks like some servers are forcing cl_minmodels to one, and
when you
join servers after that you only see the two models. The work around
for now
is to manually reset that cvar.

RE: [hlds] Counter-Strike: Source update released

2006-04-12 Thread Adam Sando
I have been running a Windows based server for some time, and have been running
zBlock since it was first available to the public, and have not seen a single
crash based on having zBlock installed, even with the very early version of the
plug-in.

I have also seen MANY gaming servers run by ISP's that do not appear to have
any problems from what I have heard (Whisper would potentially agree with
this), so if you believe your problem is so widespread, I have never heard
about it from the likes of other service providers who have implemented it.

The leagues that I have played in run zBlock Min/Max and neither has ever
interfered with the game play on those servers, nor caused server crashes.

I agree with Wim here, in that it must be a platform specific problem that is
acting as the catalyst for the symptoms you are seeing.

Regards,
Adam

[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Could you give me the
specifics of the servers you run? Since the plugin is required in several
leagues and I have yet to hear a single complaint about crashing, it's likely a
platform specific issue. Having more information about the systems that it
seems to have issues with would help me towards possibly finding / fixing the
issue.

As for error handling, it's hard to 'handle an error'
that, as far as I'm aware, isn't even occuring. Ask other server providers such
as Whisper, he'll also tell you that zBlock runs perfectly stable.

Re: [hlds] Linksys & Server Issues

2006-04-12 Thread Ook

IIRC, you need to plug the cat 5 from a computer into the modem itself.
Might have to reset the modem so it will give the computer an IP. Then
connect to 192.168.0.1. That should take you to the config menu of the
modem, there really isn't much you can do there but I think firewall
settings is an option. Anyone else here remember or know for sure?

Re: [hlds] Linksys & Server Issues

2006-04-12 Thread Ook

Ahh, Comcast cable modem. I remember now. I had one of those miserable
things. Got tired of it and gave it back to Comcast and went to Circuit city
and bought a Linksys cable modem. End of problems. Anyhow, you need to
connect to the modem itself and turn off the firewall, I seem to recall that
it defaults to on and will stop your server from being visible on the
Internet. Try that, let us know what happens. I don't remember if you can
configure it to let certain ports through or not

Hey all,

I have tried to get my CZ Server post on the web, but can never access it
from another site/computer. LAN works fine. I use a Linksys WRT54G and
followed the instruction from this site:

Any Ideas?

[hlds] Dual Xeon Issue HL1 Engine (CZ File request)

2006-04-12 Thread leo bounds
Does anyone have available the pre-march CZ files I
could download somewhere ?

I need the files that are current enough to be VAC
secured. Someone had posted a link to some files for
CS a week or so ago but I need the ones for CZ.

I just need the CZ .dlls I guess and some of the
engine files.

Can anyone help with this ?

I suppose there is still no ETA on the fix from Valve
yet on this one ?

Arg.. this is not good at all.

Thank you for any help,
LB

Could you give me the specifics of the servers you run? Since the plugin is
required in several leagues and I have yet to hear a single complaint about
crashing, it's likely a platform specific issue. Having more information
about the systems that it seems to have issues with would help me towards
possibly finding / fixing the issue.

As for error handling, it's hard to 'handle an error'
that, as far as I'm aware, isn't even occuring. Ask other server
providers such as Whisper, he'll also tell you that zBlock runs
perfectly stable.

You're welcome to that feedback. I'm just giving mine from people who have
no idea what the error messages are as they give no indication that its
zblock at fault. Hence probably why no-one thinks there's any problem with
it and why you think everything is good (always cunning).

90% of the people we get coming to us think its Valve, as soon as we remove
zblock its fine. Now that _could_ be outdated versions, but 1) it shouldn't
make the server crash under _any_ circumstances and 2) you should give a
clear indication its zblock and not some random error that takes mind
readers to figure and not Valve.

You really do neither properly.

Fortunately for us, we are now used to the problems with zblock after so
many occurances with its errors and can relatively quickly point people in
the right direction to the best fix.

The was forced way before this update, if you have EVER IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE
played on a server that had manimod installed, odds are thats why. You see,
settings are saved, and if you have ever been on a manimod server setting
either of these settings, they've been saved. On a sidenote, I think
beetles mod has the same feature of custom models, im not sure if it
also forces the client model.

2006-04-12 Thread artiecs
Disregard my last post.

Just saw LDukes post bout VIPmod and Mani (among others) forcing this client
cvar change to make custom models display properly. We were running VIPmod
until todays update. We haven't had VIPmod on since today's update, cause we
can't start the server with MetaMod:Source enabled (haven't yet tracked down
which MM:S plugin doesn't like the new update). Apparently stock models
would display ok with 'cl_minmodels 1' before the update, but now they
don't. So that makes sence of what I've seen here.

The only mod we currently have running is BeetleMod, and it's not set to
change any client cvars. And i haven't played on any other servers. Seems
odd that if it were something to do with BM or the SRCDS/CSS code, that it
would force that change the first time i joined, but not in any subsequent
times that i joined. I don't have my config set to read-only, so BM or SRCDS
would be able to change it everytime i joined if either was trying to do so
to clients, but that's not happening.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike: Source update released

2006-04-12 Thread artiecs
The only mod we currently have running is BeetleMod, and it's not set to
change any client cvars. And i haven't played on any other servers. Seems
odd that if it were something to do with BM or the SRCDS/CSS code, that it
would force that change the first time i joined, but not in any subsequent
times that i joined. I don't have my config set to read-only, so BM or SRCDS
would be able to change it everytime i joined if either was trying to do so
to clients, but that's not happening.

So far, i'v only seen people have problems with outdated versions of zblock,
beyond that, I have yet to receive any real negative feedback. With most
european leagues using it, both australian leagues using it, and next season
of CAL using it's codebase, I can definitely say that the good feedback
easily outweighs the bad.

Heh, someone who admits to being co-creator of zblock? Had so many fecking
issues from people using zblock breaking servers its not funny. First thing
we do now when there's a problem with someone screwing up a server is ask if
someone has added zblock, 99% of the time its yes and the fix is almost
instant, no doubt people can guess what that is.

Somehow this was helping the manimod server plugin support custom player
skins, cl_min_t and cl_min_ct used to be forced to 4 (since there weren't 4
skins back than, this wasnt an
issue), now because a 4th skin exists, this issue arises.

@ Alfred:
As co-creator of zBlock I have obvious intrest in being abled to change a
players settings, something that would be ideal, or beyond ideal :), is if
the server can have a convar list thats enforced on clients that connect,
these would be temporary and disabled as soon as the player leaves the
server. If you wan't more of an explanation of how I imagine this, i'll
email you directly, or send it here, whichever works best.

from another site/computer. LAN works fine. I use a Linksys WRT54G and
followed the instruction from this site:

Any Ideas?

This is done by mani servers with custom models, they used to force cl_min_t
and cl_min_ct to 4, and cl_minmodels to
1, now these settings will be saved into your config, however model 4
didnt use to exist before, meaning it would still use every
regular model, now that model 4 exists, this issue kicks in. Simply
fix it by typing 'revert cl_minmodels' in
client console.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike: Source update released

2006-04-12 Thread artiecs
I don't think it's the server's Alfred. I was seeing this problem (one model
per team only) on our server immediately after the update. Found the
cl_minmodels 0 fix in the steam forums, and since i've changed it to 0 I've
rejoined our server several times and all the models display fine without
having to re-enter the cvar manually each time i rejoin. So it doesn't look
like the server's forcing a cvar change. Looks more like the update is
forcing the cl_minmodels cvar to 1 on clients when they get todays update,
and once it's changed back to 0 it's fine from there.

So it looks like some servers are forcing cl_minmodels to one, and when you
join servers after that you only see the two models. The work around for now
is to manually reset that cvar.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike: Source update released

2006-04-12 Thread Graham Robinson
You could, but I set my cl_minmodels so that it only shows one model
and I wouldn't want a server changing it without my knowledge, just
because it's the way they think it should be.

2 cents.

I am pretty sure this is a client-based command isn't it?

I would have thought you would have to set this on the client machine with
Mattie's or something??

just tried out the new de_dust (it is terrible bad work, after 2 minutes i
deactivated hdr because I had no sunglasses available)

Problem is that the game is lagging since the update.

Box is an A64 @ 2400MHz, only 20 players were playing, tickrate is 50, cpu
usage < 30%
mods: mani + matties eventscripts.

Network is fine, ping about 40ms, no loss, only few choke (0-5), fps
constantly about 50 but there are some big lags every few seconds, nearly
unplayable. It ran much better before the update so what is going wrong ?

Re: [hlds] New update for models issue?

2006-04-12 Thread LDuke
--
[ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ]
When the first new models were released, custom models wouldn't show up
unless cl_minmodels was set to 1 so plugins like Mani and VIP Mod forced
that setting on clients.

With this update, models won't show right if cl_minmodels is 1. The custom
models now only show up if cl_minmodels is 0, so really, this update fixed
the problem plugins were having. The plugins just don't know it yet, and
need to be updated.

In the meantime, you'll need to set cl_minmodels to 0.

Re: [hlds] Counter-Strike: Source update released

2006-04-12 Thread Andreas Grimm
Alfred, are you sure that the "cl_minmodels 1" didnt come due that update?

Because i never played on servers where that value is forced by a plugin and
it worked with the releases of the models before, too.
On my servers are a lot of players with the models problem.

I'm currently not having this problem where other people on the same server
were.
I have been playing for the past 1 hour.

Anyway - Nice work on the models.

After playing a couple of rounds on a server I saw the same effect also. We
will look into it. It doesn't appear to be related to plugins, what seem to
be vanilla servers had the same bug.

RE: [hlds] hpb_bots, anyone?

2006-04-12 Thread Edward Luna
My server is a Valve server so I mostly run old school Valve maps but I've
never had a problem with custom maps.
This is a HL1 TeamPlay server. Boot_camp, Crossfire, Gasworks, etc.

What maps do you run?

The Bots don't give me any trouble... very stable. I have found that
config'ing the Bots to leave if real players come in can sometimes cause
problems, so I stopped doing it. My Bots stay in all the time (unless a
vote to kick boots them out).

How stable are they? Do you run any custom maps? I have several maps I
can't
use with hpb_bots because they crash the server.

I use HPB Bot on a HL1 server and I have the skill level cranked all the
way
up to 1. The Bots have mad aim and kill with pistol head shots from the
other side of the map, but you can beat them fairly easily. I don't use
waypoints and the Bots work well.

Do you have problems with bot skill level too high? I have hpb_bot
cranked
all the way down (bot_skill 5), but they still kick butt.

Only other bot I've found to be stable and reliable was rho-bot,
specifically the version that is in OZ. Those did not require waypoint
files - wish I could get them to work with OP4 :(

I run DOD,cs1.6 and DODC, but the only bot I have used was shrike bot
and
it
was for DOD.
It ran fairly well with the AI settings all on high and 6 bots in the
server

You just have to not allow the bots to chat and make them remove
themselves
one by one when a real human enters the server. There were a few other
settings that helped lower the CPU resources as well. Just trim it
down.

Who here uses HPB_Bot? What is your experience with them, what mod do
you
use?

Re: [hlds] Issues with Bots.

Seriously though why are you still using AMX? The project is
practically dead. AMXX runs so much faster and the help and support for
it FAR surpasses AMX.

Check this out:
http://www.amxmodx.org/bench/
Pretty crazy. Its pretty easy to port AMX scripts to AMXX too if you
cant find something like you already had.

Maybe they should run 8 busy servers on a dual proc system. I am sure they
can afford it. Farm out admin to people that are responsible and actually
test their system in a real world environment...

ok, I get what you need now but using ripent to import the entity files is
the slower and more tedious way to do that. If you open the map in BSPedit,
in the left pane you'll see the name of your map and in the right pane you
ll see all of the map entity text. At this point all you have to do is
copy and past the list of entities once you find them into the right pane
and choose SAVE. That its. No need for DOS or batch file anymore.
Yesterday I edited 5 maps in under 35 minutes adding 7 weapons to each
opposite teams spawn as well as adding ingame banners and spawn protection
banners. it's just much faster. FYI. Gl

I assume your wanting it to convert map entities from one mod to another
?.
Either way, You can use BSPedit to get the entities for any BSP, just
download it.

You'll find in in the download section of my web site under half life
tools/hl-tools.zip
www.ethugsrus.net this zip file has almost everything you need to edit
and
make maps except VHE. Which you can find over at VERC. But do not use
VHE
