Wow - way to welcome someone to the linux world... If you did some reading you could answer his questions... as I will now. 1 - its in the correct directory. Always create a user and put the files in their home dir, as you said you did. Everything is installed in a directory in the home folder of an account i made for it 2 - ./hlds_run +sv_lan 0 -game whatevermod -autoupdate +ip x.x.x.x (the full command line options can be found at any good cstrike site usually. 3 - just some rate tweaking usually depending upon your connection. I would start here - http://server.counter-strike.net/server.php?cmd=howtoshow=linux as this will help you out with all the questions you asked. 1. Not if you want shared ( multi server ) installs. 2. How do u know hes running halflife 1 games? +sv_lan 0 is default so not required. 3. Again hl1 based, he might be installing hl2 ( CS:S ) So conclusion is your information could be worse than useless point him in the wrong direction HL1 info although they are similar. I am now stuck with a few questions. 1) should it be where it is or in someother directory? 2) What command line do I run to start it properly? and 3) Is there anything extra i have to do to ensure this runs properly? I have tried RTFM'ing but cant find many good things out there for FC3. The IT is HLDS for HL1, im trying to set it up to run regular old CS, not source. I have a DLink router that is set to DMZ for the server's IP, i believe i forwarded the ports by adding them to the Other Ports thing in Sercity Level. I have Metamod and AMXMODX install properly i believe. i havnt really played with any config files however. I tryed running ./hlds_run +sv_lan 0 -game cstrike -autoupdate +ip 172.101.0.10 (lan ip of server) Should that be the wan ip? It seems to start off alright but gets stuck after it has downloaded the security thing from speakeasy.net n the server is secure. And i have tryed googling for help and http://server.counter-strike.net/ but still am getting stuck thats why i have turned to you guys. Do you guys have any idea of whats getting stuck? should i try removing the mods n running it then adding them later? Any and all help is greatly appreciated. thank you Ben H. -- ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux
Re: [hlds_linux] New to linux servers, need help
Sounds like its actually started and you haven't given a map try adding +map de_dust to your command line or typing map de_dust in the console The fact that your running FC3 will have little or nothing to do with how things are run. Re: [hlds_linux] New to linux servers, need help
Hi there, Sounds like Steve's right. While you're configuring things you might want to check the default firewall settings for FC3 in both lokkit (/sbin/lokkit) for the interface you're using, and also in apf (/etc/apf/conf.apf). You need to make sure the settings are correct in both. Don't ask me why both are installed by default. Cheers good luck On Mon, 2005-05-02 at 03:06 +0100, Steven Hartland wrote: [snip] The fact that your running FC3 will have little or nothing to do with how things are run.
