Re: [JAWS-Users] word keeps telling me the file is in use by another user
This happens to me with Word 2003. You just have to keep saying no to everything and be sure to save your document before you try to close it. But if you reboot your computer, I think word will stop saying that. It may start again, though at some point. I've just gotten used to it. I save my document. Then I close it. Word says there's another user and I space bar on OK. Then I try to close the document again and at some point, it says something about changing the template. and I say no. Re: [JAWS-Users] word keeps telling me the file is in use by another user
Hello Dacia, I had this problem in either JAWS 13 or 14. The Winword.exe process wasn't being closed when the program was closed. I don't remember if it was just a later build of the version or a higher version of JAWS that seemed to stop the problem. Try using Shift+CTRL+escape to open the task manager. Use CTRL with tab key until focus is in the processes page of the dialog box. Use tab key until you are in the list of processes and then press W repeatedly to find out if Winword.exe is listed. There might be more than one occurrence. With focus on the Winword.exe entry tab to the End Process button and press spacebar. Confirm that you want to end the process if asked. Do that for each Winword.exe entry in the running processes list. Press Alt with F4 when done. You don't want to save changes to the normal.DOT file as changes will affect any new blank documents you create. I remember having to do these steps periodically until I got a later build or version of JAWS. Take care. Hi, your message is/was very helpful. Do I understand that replying to a message does not add your contact to the address book? For instance, if you type me an email, I open it, reply to it, are you in my address book/contacts--are they the same, or do I need to add them manually? Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and outlook 2010
Hi In Outlook 2010, to sort the messages in a folder, go to the view tab of the ribbon while you're on the list of messages in that folder. If you're using JAWS virtual menus, arrow down to the arrangement submenu. Press right arrow to get to arrange by and then press enter to open. Arrow up or down to the choice you want and press enter. If you're not using JAWS virtual menus, tab from the view tab until you hear something like arrangement arrange by and press enter. Then arrow up or down to find the item you want and press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jamie Prater Sent: Thursday, February 27, 2014 08:33 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws and outlook 2010 Hi, I'm using jaws 15, with the latest updated patch and outlook 2010. I have figured out how to most things I want to, but how do you sort messages by subject, sender, and other things. I can't seem to find this in the ribbons. It may be called by another name, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I take it that when you reply to someone, they aren't automatically entered into your address book anymore as they were in outlook express with xp. If this is indeed the case, how do you enter addresses and names and make sure they're right in your address book. It seems to have many of them in my suggested contacts but not in address book where email contacts should go, and I don't know how to put them there. Also, how would this work when copying addresses in by hand without replying to them such as getting them off my old xp computer? Re: [JAWS-Users] accessing the address book in word 2010?
Hello Dacia, I don't think that the insert with F8 command works in Word, at least it doesn't in Word 2013. The insert with F8 command is for the Global Outlook toolbar. However, there are a couple other methods you can use. I am using Word 2013 but I think the following information is the same for Word 2010 or at least very similar. One way that you can use to open a contact or insert an address from your contacts into a Word document is by using additional actions. Add an additional action: 1. Press Alt with F followed by Alt with T. 2. Press A until you get to the add-in category. 3. Tab until you get to the "Manage add-ins" box and arrow down to actions. 4. Tab to the Go button and use spacebar. 5. In the resulting window make sure the checkbox for enabling additional actions is checked. 6. Tab to the list of additional actions and use up or down arrow key between them. Use spacebar on the actions you want to use in the contextual menu. Check the address item. Using the spacebar selects or deselects an item in the list. 7. Use OK button until you are back in the document. Inserting an address from a contact using additional actions: 1. Select the name in your document. 2. Press application key and use up arrow to find the "additional actions" menu item. 3. Use right arrow key and then use down arrow key to find the "insert address" item and press enter key. The address should be inserted below the selected name in your document. A second method is to add the address book command to the quick access toolbar. 1. Press Alt F followed by Alt T. 2. Press the letter Q to move to the quick access toolbar category. 3. In the Choose Commands from box press A until you get to All commands. 4. Tab to the list of commands and navigate to the address book choice. 5. Tab to the Add button and use spacebar. 6. Use OK until out of the dialog boxes and back in your document. 7. You can then access the address book from the quick access toolbar. Use Alt and then use shift+tab until you find the address book choice and press enter key. You can also use Alt key with the number of the address book choice on the toolbar. For example, if the address book is the third item from the left on the toolbar then use Alt with 3. Take care. I cannot figure out how to make this a permanent template with 12-point font which is becoming maddening. Any help to resolve this issue will be tremendously appreciated. If your record player has no "line-out" jack and is connected to your PC soundcard with a "headset" jack, then most probably you will need to use a pre-amp or connect your LP player to microphone line of your soundcard (instead of "line-in"). > but I can not hear what is being recorded. The other alternative I could think of, but now you are getting into more cost, is running things through a mixer which allows various input and output device running simultaneously. I can't seem to get the insert f8 key to work. I'm using my caps lock as my insert key, pressing my function key and the f8 key. Do I need to do something different? I only have JAWS 13, is this a setting in JAWS 13? thanks, Dacia On 2/27/14, Dacia Luck wrote: > So do you just press insert f8 in the main microsoft word window or do > you need to be in another area of Word like the mailings tab? > > thanks, > > Dacia > > On 2/26/14, Liuda wrote: >> I never knew this insert-F8 list existed before tonight. So do you just press insert f8 in the main microsoft word window or do you need to be in another area of Word like the mailings tab? thanks, Dacia On 2/26/14, Liuda wrote: > I never knew this insert-F8 list existed before tonight. Re: [JAWS-Users] Hidden Extensions
Well you have already taken the first step which was to ask for help in the matter, good man. What you do is open up windows explorer by hitting the windows key and at the same time the letter E. Then go to the tools menu and select options. Control tab once. Then tab one time. Next arrow down to where it says something about file extension and I forget the exact wording off hand and hit the spacebar to turn it on. Then tab to the apply button and hit it. Then you should land on a button that says apply this to all folders of this type or something like that and hit enter on it as well. Then tab to the OK button and hit enter on it. Life should be good from then on. Let me know how it works out for your friend. My sentiments exactly. That's why I'm hanging onto my XP system beyond the April 8 cutoff for XP support, despite the dire predictions of doom for us inveterate XP loyalists. Re: [JAWS-Users] programs for retrieving product keys
In the order you asked: It reveals hidden passwords for online accounts in case you forgot what your login information is for a given location. Reveals the product keys for Windows, Office, and various other programs. Extracts system drivers so you can re-install them after a system reload. None of these programs are to be used for un-lawful purposes, but sometimes they are needed by those of us who work on computers for friends ETC. Recently I had to hack in to a friends' email account file (IE) IAF to retrieve his password because he forgot it and he wanted me to configure his email on a new computer. Driver magician was $29.95 but the others are free and available for download on my server. Honestly unless you're planning on doing some installs they would not be of interest to you, on the other hand if you are planning such things then they will prove invaluable. Hope this is clear enough, if it is not let me know and after my morning coffee I'll try to do better. Thank you very much. asterisk logger magical jelly bean driver magician From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: Tuesday, February 25, 2014 6:16 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] programs for retrieving product keys I was reviewing some of the offerings on the server this afternoon and I figured somebody out there might just be interested in what I found. I have known for sometime already that Aida 32 or however it is spelled does not work on 64 bit systems, so it's probably going to be coming down. I discovered that Magical Jelly Bean works accurately on all flavors of windows 7 and of course XP as well. I retrieved some product keys and compared them to what I already had on file and the results were exactly correct. I'm kind of in the process of building myself a for the lack of a better term portable tool kit. IE a flash drive with most of what I consider important for working on somebody else's system which land on my desk from time to time. So far asterisk logger, magical jelly bean and some windows updates have made the cut so to speak. Along with driver magician and things like windows 7 service pack 1 for both 32 and 64 bit systems. Don't try this without at least a 16 GB flash drive. David Ferrin ow...@jaws-users.com Always be yourself because the people that matter don't mind, and the ones that mind don't matter.
