RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy unable to recognize file
Hi Pat, I’m not quite sure what you did by “importing” the Legacy 7 files. Once you have upgraded to v8 and try to open a v7 file you will be asked if you want to convert it, with the option of making a copy. However, if you can find the LEG8PAT.fdb using file explorer then you should be able to find it with Legacy. Go to File/Open, navigate to the folder where LEG8PAT.fdb can be found, click on the file, and click on Open. Perhaps you were clicking on the blue L in the upper left corner – this normally shows the recent files opened, and there is a chance that you had not actually opened the second file?? Navigate as above, making sure the file has an .fdb extension. Click (right or left) on the "+" in the upper right corner of the "Children" window OR in the white space above the column, in the header marked "Children". You should get a pop-up window with 6 choices - select "Link to and existing son" or "Link to an existing daughter" - the Name List will open allowing you to choose the person you want to link to. I do not see a plus, but there is a logo that displays the screen by which you can sort order, select child status, and edit each child, among other things. I had never seen that logo before. When you have an empty slot, clicking there returns add or link to a child, among other options. When you have set the display for full screen, 6 children can be added, but with partial screen selected you only get 5 per column. RE: [LegacyUG] v800-397 & Internet
Mike, I, too, have seen many cases of programs not displaying something as expected. It is bad enough when the content is obviously internet/browser rendered. It is worse when the content is the "normal" output of the program. Telling someone to open IE and empty the cache. "But IE isn't even on my (Windows) computer!" All that I can do is fight the urge to "educate" them and smile knowingly when they exclaim that "it worked!" LOL!! Re: [LegacyUG] Descendants report
Hi Derek, Do you get two copies of everything you print, or just this one report? My printer gets set to automatically print two copies if I choose to print two copies of something as the job is being sent to the printer in my accounting program. No idea if that setting sticks with other programs, as it's only there that I sometimes need two copies of a single invoice and I don't want to use the 'normal' invoice printing route where I can specify the number of copies earlier in the routine. When I do print this way, I have to remember to change it back to printing one copy with the next printing job, and all is fine again. I don't always remember! Hope this helps. :-) Wendy Derek Cuthbert said the following on 10/02/2014 5:55 a.m.: > When I print a descendants report I get 2 copies and that's on too > many. What am I doing wrong? Re: [LegacyUG] v800-397 & Internet
Mike's comment about IE is not entirely true. The Legacy Home tab uses the Internet Explorer (IE) engine which is built into Windows so anything in that tab which uses the internet such as displaying the Legacy News and the links in the support section open the links in IE. Any election by the user to open a link on those web pages in a new window (via the right click menu) will open IE to display the site. Legacy does use your default browser to: a. View web page files on your computer after you create them; b. Internet > Search Internet or Search > Search Internet; and c. The link to the Legacy Home page on the Internet ribbon. [LegacyUG] Copy Role Sentences
The default event sentences in Legacy tend to "sound" mechanical when viewing in reports. The default event sentences sound even worse for sharees. In order to create a more pleasant read, I am modifying the default sentences. Is there any way to make a copy of a role with the modified sentences and then just change the name of the role, rather than having to copy each of the eight sentences one by one from a modified role to a new role? I.E. I have modified the sentences in Role A. I would like to make a copy of Role A and rename it Role B. If you do this, be very, very careful with the way you set up security on the router. The memory stick (thumb drive, flash drive whatever...) is usually treated as a network drive and can be accessed from the other side of the router i.e. the big, bad Internet world with all its' hackers. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg (g) Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com). RE: [LegacyUG] syncronizing two computers
You could SyncToy do synchronise the files from you Laptop to the Router's memory stick and from the PC to the router's memory stick. Personally I use SyncToy and a portable hard drive. My wireless router has a port for a memory stick, which I use to transfer files between 3 computers. Could I keep my family file in my routers memory stick, to sink my desktop and laptop? I assume it would operate like dropbox, shouldn't work on one, while the other is open. Thanks Brian On 2/8/2014 9:28 PM, Raymond F MacMahon wrote: > Hi Wendy, > > Many thanks for the info.
