Looking for a used iPod...
Hi everyone. I'm looking for a second hand iPod as I've got a ton of music and audio books etc and my sixteen gb iPhone isn't cutting it as far as storing offline media is concerned... So, if anybody out there has an iPod they are thinking of selling that is at least thirty gb, please let me know. A video, classic, or touch is fine and I don't mind if it is a bit scratched up etc as long as the hard drive and battery are good to go. Hi. After choosing disk utility from the utilities menu, it says disk utility is launched in the background. However, the window chooser has no contents and the application chooser says that only the language chooser is running. How odd... OS X Yosemite install issue...
Hi everyone. I created a bootable USB flash drive and am using it to do a clean install of OS X Yosemite but have encountered an issue... I've done a clean install using this method for at least two previous versions of OS X without an issue... When I boot from the flash drive and turn on voiceover, after selecting disk utility from the utilities menu, it just hangs there and says language chooser has no windows and the only thing in the menu bar is the apple menu where I can select the startup disk, restart, or shutdown, or, the language chooser menu, which appears to be empty. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I select the language or not... Any suggestions on getting around this with voiceover? I've restarted twice and the same thing happens. I also booted back into OS X and verified the internal hd as well as repairing disk permissions... Any ideas? The buyer will also receive a free external 250gb bus powered hard drive that you could use as a time machine backup drive if you wish... Specs include aluminum unibody construction, 15.4 inch retina display, magic glass trackpad that works with voiceover, 2.0gHz quad core I7 processor with turbo boost, eight gigs of ddr3 ram, 256gb solid state hard drive, Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 ports, yFI, bluetooth etc. Includes charger and will come with a clean install of OSX. You can use firewire and ethernet devices via the thunderbolt ports with a simple and cheap adapter. I've done this with no issues. Hi. Speaking of windows on the mac, I need to reinstall windows seven ultimate 64 bit on a newly created bootcamp partition. How did you get around having no speech during the first part of the process where you had to select the default partition and format it to ntfs before continueing? the unattended xlm file route doesn't work for seven for me as it totally erased my drive by default. That option worked great for installing win xp via bootcamp but I take it that is no longer an option for windows seven or later? Thanks, Cameron. Hi. I have a Mark of the unicorn 828MKII firewire audio/midi interface for sale. Among it's many features are phantom power, ten db pad switches, a bunch of tactile controls, eight line ins, eight line outs, main outs, two headphone preamps with independent volume controls, midi ports, spdif, etc. Shoot me an e mail off list if you're interested. The drivers are rock solid on both mac and windows 64 bit and although the unit has a ton of features, it is only a single rack space in size. This would be a good setup for pro tools, logic, or garage band etc as well as being a great choice for general computing tasks. I'd part it out, or, sell it as a whole package depending on the offer... The Machine will come with a fresh install of Mavericks, unless you want another version of OSX. I will also include iLife 11 as well as the keyboard, mouse, and power cable. I also have a bluetooth magic glass trackpad if you'd want that. Re: booting from an external drive
Hi. If you have a bootable drive, you can boot from it by going into system preferences and selecting the drive in startup disk. Or, hold down the option key when you hear the chime when restarting the machine. This will give you a list of available devices to boot from;internal hd, superdrive etc. If it is a bootable drive, you should be able to select it from that list using the arrow keys then hit enter. You may need to guess, or, just grab someone with some working eyeballs to tell you how many times you need to arrow before hitting enter. Hope that helps, Cameron. Hi. Honestly, I don't know if it "looks better", but, it has good specs compared to more current flat panels I checked out online. It's only been used for a few hours. I'm totally blind and only bought it so I could have sighted assistance once in a while. I bought it four years ago but as I said, it's only been turned on for a few hours in that time... Hi everybody. I'm looking for a program to batch convert the audio from video files for example;start with 100 wmv and mov files etc and end up with mp3 or another audio format. GoldWave on the windows side does a very good job of this, but, I'm trying to migrate this and other remaining tasks to OSX and/or iOS if possible... Any help would be greatly appreciated. jailbreaking iPhone 4s anybody...

I'm trying to help a friend who is not tech savvy jailbreak her iPhone 4s because even though it's not under contract anymore, her new cell carrier won't request an unlock code from Apple. Has anybody done this? Google gives me a lot of ads, useless youtube videos, and web sites that are either scams or want cash... I am aware of security issues and worms etc around, but, there appear to be safe versions out there yes? I have had no need to do this with any of my iOS devices so need some guidance if possible... Hi. I've had no trouble running windows seven ultimate 32 bit or 64 bit via bootcamp. It'll most likely be the best option. You're going to have an easier time using a native install as opposed to a virtual machine. And as for hardware/driver/application conflicts, I've had none to speak of with my native windows install and that is on five different macs at this point. If you can afford the new mac mini server edition, that gives you two 1tb internal hard drives, an Intel I7 quad core processor, and more ram than you'll probably need with the ability to add more later on if required. I also upgraded the ram to eight gigs. (If you want even more ram, you could have 32 gigs or more depending on what sort of upgrade kit you go with, like one from OWC for example.) Huh? How can you find it? Didn't you use it already to create the partition you installed windows on? Anyways, it's in your utilities folder which you can get to by pressing command, shift, u in OSX. You might want to download the latest package just in case, or, you can try using Apple software update on the windows side. I haven't had great luck with that though regarding the bootcamp drivers so try it on the OSX side first... You can manually download them from the Apple web site as well. Cameron. Hi. holding down the option key when you hear the startup sound will bring up your boot choices. Just right arrow or left arrow and then hit enter. In startup disk under system preferences on mac, and, the bootcamp control panel under windows, you can change your default startup disk. Cameron. All of the mac book pros have had the unibody aluminum case for quite some time now as have the mac book airs... I've had no issues with overheating or warping etc with the three unibody case mac book pros I've owned. Others may have had issues, I'm sure it's possible, but, they would be few and far between. No mac user I know has mentioned an issue in relation to the case on the imacs or the mac books... If it's a refurb direct from Apple, it should include a one year warranty for parts and labor due to a defect. One more thought... My concern with a refurb or used computer from another source would be the hard drive. I'd advise installing a solid state drive for peace of mind and longevity. SSD drives are quite affordable these days and they are a safer bet especially when installed in a portable machine as you don't have the moving parts of a mechanical drive. Hi. I was actually able to download it using our old beat up white mac book. i downloaded the latest version of disk maker x but after I select mavericks, I get a message saying system event dialogue needs attention but command tabbing doesn't show a dialogue box. disk maker x just sits with no windows and then a few minutes later, i get an apple event timeout message and I can quit the application. has anybody else experienced this? I've got the mavericks installer in the applications olfder and I've formatted my eight gig flash drive following the instructions on their site. can't download Mavericks...

The first time I opened up the app store, I found mavericks, clicked install, signed in with my Apple ID, and then the download progress message came up for quite a while. When it finished, I hit the OK button. now, for some reason, I can't find the .dmg file. It's not in downloads, not on the desktop etc. When I go back in to the app store and hit the download button again, nothing happens. I restarted the machine and tried again, but, again, it does nothing at all. Any suggestions? Does anybody know where the apps etc are actually downloaded to? I have it setup as a dual boot system right now with pro tools under OSX and Sonar 64 bit under Windows Seven Ultimate 64 bit and she is a beast! Specs below... Trouble with win seven, bootcamp, and mac book air...
Hi everybody. Perhaps somebody has gone through this and can shed some light on what might be going on... I've searched apple forums etc but haven't found a solution yet... My girlfriend needs windows on her mac book air for work so I installed win seven Ultimate 32 bit after creating the required partition in the bootcamp utility in mountain lion. When I instruct the bootcamp utility to download the windows support software, I get the dialogue box saying that the download is in progress. That's where it ends though because it just seems stuck. I even let it sit overnight and the same dialogue box was still there the next morning. There is no status bar etc that is visible to voiceover, none that I can find at least. So, I went on the apple site and downloaded the two latest 32 bit versions of the package but neither will install. I get an error message when I run setup.exe that says that it's not compatible with this machine. We're not running win seven 64 bit either so that is not the issue. I grabbed the bootcamp folder off of my old snow lepeard dvd and while that seems to install correctly, (I get the last dialogue box with the finish button then the message saying that I need to restart the computer), none of the drivers load after rebooting and bootcamp is not in the notifications area. When I go into device manager, it doesn't look like any of the apple and other specific drivers have loaded because I only see generic drivers under things like keyboard, network adapters etc. This is my first time installing windows via bootcamp on an air and my first time doing it on a mac with mountain lion. I've done this on five different macs over the past few years with no trouble but now I am at a loss as to what's going on here... Thoughts? Thanks for any tips you guys might have! Hi. Regarding audio work, yes, of course you want to have all your sessions on an external hard drive. Upgrading the internal drive is still a good idea though. The likelihood of a mechanical drive failing is far higher than that of a solid state drive failing. so, for peace of mind, it's a good idea if you can afford it. (This can always be done later in any case.) Having an ssd moves things along a lot quicker with everyday tasks too;software updates, backing up, restoring if need be etc. Also, for critical recording, a machine with a solid state drive is going to be far quietter than one with a mechanical drive. And just a note on pro tools for anybody who may not know already... Pro tools under mountain lion has some accessibility setbacks that have not been resolved yet. Edit fields being read as "blank" and certain menus and plugs not being accessible being some of them. The best course of action for now is to stay with the latest versions of pt8 or pt9 under OSX 10.6 or 10.7. Finally, there are no gains with the new version of pt10 that was just released, or in pt11 so for now, save your pennies. Hopefully these issues will be resolved but Apple aren't very open with progress or any sort of time table as is the case with the lack of logic accessibility. We shall see... Cameron. Hi. As previously stated, any of the mac book pros that are non retina display models will have the superdrive on board. Whether you're talking about the firewire 800 port or the Intel Thunderbolt port, the digi 002 would work with both via a reasonably priced adapter. (I believe mine cost me around $25US.) If you're going to be using it for pt, be sure to get a solid state hard drive, or, at least upgrade the stock drive to a 7200rpm drive. (A hard drive upgrade is one of the options if you order from the online apple store for example.) Cameron. Free word press blogging app for Mac OSX and iOS?
Hi everybody. MarsEdit is certainly a vo friendly choice for word press blogs but are any of you aware of a free alternative that has equal or close to equal vo accessibility? iTunes freezing while downloading app updates...
Hi all. I'm using the latest versions of mountain lion and iTunes 11 and am having a problem. Whenever app updates are available, I select download all free updates and then sign in when the dialogue comes up. Now, where it says for example, 1/5 of 5, everything stops. Back when I was using iTunes 10, as the updates downloaded, you'd get a soft little chime or ding sound as each download completed, the number would move along, and it would finish in no time at all. Now, it just sits there doing nothing. When you try to quit, it says that apps are being downloaded. If you do choose quit, nothing happens. Even force quit doesn't usually close the program. I let it sit for over an hour and nothing had changed. Downloading podcasts and books behaves normally by the way. Any ideas as to what may be causing this to happen? How hard is it to have a normal link? They used to have it and it worked fine. I assume they changed it to some bit mapped garbage that is more appealing to sighted users... Hi everybody. I'm hoping there is at least one person on list who has been able to list items successfully on e bay with voiceover and safari recently... I'm trying to totally migrate all of my tasks to the mac but this one just isn't happening. I'm getting stuck on the step where you upload pics of your item. Since they "updated" the site a while ago, there is no longer a button/link to bring up the "add pictures" dialogue box. On windows, you can find the text with the jaws cursor and do a mouse click to bring up the dialogue box. I'm having no luck getting this to work on the mac side. Could anybody give me any tips? Hi. I've found a great twitter client or two for mac OSX, but, for facebook, jaws with internet explorer and the facebook mobile site are still the best combo for me. Hi. $200? Hm. That sounds very high indeed for reformatting a hard drive and reinstalling OSX, if that is what this turns out to be. I wouldn't even pay that much if it included a replacement hard drive. If a reformat and reinstall of OSX is the case, you can do that at home for free as voiceover will boot from the OSX dvd, flash drive, or recovery partition. All you need to do is run disk utility, wipe the hd, reformat it, and install OSX. If you'd like instructions, let me know. Cameron. I actually used the drivers from the OSX dvd and they work fine. Hi. Ah, okay, so you have a solution for selecting the proper partition once the windows seven installer launches? I'd be very interested to hear what that is as I've had no luck figuring that out yet and that includes trying to use an unattended install file with no success. Once partition selection is done and the ula is accepted, you can run narraotr to finish the setup process. That's all well and good, but, it baffles me that they would not make sure that the first one or two screens of the freaking installer were accessible with narrator... Thanks Microsoft. Cameron.
