[MBZ] BMW for Sale
I am going to be putting my BMW up for sale this week because I am traveling this weekend to pick up my new to me car. So, here's the info on the BMW. 2000 BMW 740iL Black exterior/ grey interior. VERY nice shape. The L model indicates it is the long version just like the Mercedes L models. It has every option (or nearly every option) available in 2000 including Navigation, premium sound, EDC (electronic damping control) as well as the DTC (dynamic stability and traction control). It also has one very interesting special order option. It has the security glass windows (very thick) and the STEEL sunroof rather than the glass sunroof. The paint is in excellent shape and the interior is also VERY CLEAN. All the options work. It has a cassette and 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. The car had about 160,000 miles when I bought it. It now has 192,000 miles. So, I have driven it 32,000 in one year! It has been perfect. BMW requires synthetic oil and the previous owner had ALL of his maintenance work done at the BMW dealer in St. Louis. In fact, at 160,000 miles he did ALL of the recommended maintenance items and spent nearly $4000 getting everything flushed, filled, adjusted, replaced, inspected, etc. I spoke to the Service Manager when I bought the car and he said the previous owner was a fanatic about maintenance. This was the previous owner's 3rd 7 series and he traded it on a new BMW 7 Series active Hybrid. The Michelin tires on it are fairly new and have lots of tread. The cooling system has only had the BMW approved blue coolant. I have had it serviced at my local Indy who specializes in MB and BMW. I will be parking it at his lot if it doesn't sell this week. I get 25 mpg on trips when I keep the cruise at less than 80. Over 30,000 miles of driving, I have average 18-19 mpg combined. It will cruise all day long at 100 mph. The front and rear suspension were all rebuilt already and it drives like one of the best driving cars in the world - as a 7 series should. I will be taking pictures later today and can send them to anyone interested. In 1998, the 7 series received a facelift as well as getting lots of standard features that were previously options. It also has the newer 4.4L engine that produces approx. 300 HP. It is a big improvement over the 4.0L engines in the previous models. 2001 was the last year for the E38 Chassis and the 2000 and 2001 are the most highly sought after. You can probably find a cheaper 7 series, but not one in this shape with this maintenance. Donald H. [MBZ] ES-300/ posted last week and never appeared
When my father passed in 1991, my mom stated that she was not going to be stuck at home. Since she had never had a driver's license she would have to learn. So after seven driving test failures (she was 80), the State of Washington issued her a license. The next thing was to find a suitable car since I had sold dad's Lincoln Town Car when he could no longer drive, I thought a Camry would be the right car. After looking at them and talking to a sales drone, we drove up the road to the Lexus store. After looking in the window of an ES300, she said she wanted one. After calling the dealer and telling them what we wanted and required a 10% discount, the deal was made and the car was delivered to the house. It was one of those metallic beige cars with tan leather, etc. During the period she owned it, she drove it four times. The first time was when I offered to buy her lunch in Vancouver BC and she would be driving. Which she did as far as the Canadian border, one way. All Interstate, of course and aside from the first merge onto I-5 things went well. There came a time when driving was no longer an option for her and eventually the car was sold to a neighbor down the street, showing 6000 miles, completely unmarked. It was to be the second car and the lady of the house drove it. During all that time there were zero problems with the car and the dealer service when required was impeccable. Their only answer was, no matter the question, was Yes sir, we'll take care of that. Sadly, about a year ago the car was totaled when the driver attempted to knock down a three story brick apartment house with little success except bricks all over the car. At that time the car had 51000 miles showing. And now to the point, finally. At 50K miles, it was time to replace the cam drive belt and in the transverse Toyota V-6, it's expensive. Didn't get done, needless to say. The ES is a nice car, quiet with a decent ride but not quite as good as MBs of the period. Braking was very good with 4-wheel disc. Steering feel would never be confused with a German car. Around town fuel economy was poor but hiway mileage was around 28mpg. HVAC was very good but the liquid crystal readouts on the center stack were invisible if polarized sunglasses were worn. The interior looks bigger than it is because the seats have short cushions with less thigh support. The truck was vast with a ski-sack but the rear seats did not fold. As to why a new Lexus vs. a Camry, since the shared the same drive train, a Camry equipped nearly the same as the ES was only $2500 cheaper but when sale time came around, the ES was worth about $5500 more and is a much nicer car and certainly not as common as the average Camry. So, aside from the 50K mile service items (belts, ets.) this should be a painless car to own with no black clouds on the horizon. One last thing, previously mentioned, is the possible negative impression made on a client who may be a Buy American type and would disapprove of something shiny and German , no matter how old. Insert is in good/nice condition; 'didn't see any cracks or chunks/pieces missing, etc. Chrome on top of surround is thinning (weathered) in a spot or two. Me, too. Randy On 08/08/2012 3:05 PM, relng...@aol.com wrote: When my father passed in 1991, my mom stated that she was not going to be stuck at home. He was looking at his own car on the weekend - 2000 Maxima. It was making a noise that he did not like and he was trying to diagnose what it was. Turned out to be nothing more than a loose caliper on the left rear wheel. Caused by the fact that we live in flat country and the parking brake is seldom used. The parking brake tightens the puck in the caliper and if you don't use the parking brake, then over time the pad wears a bit and the caliper rattles because the pad is a bit loose on the rotor. At least that is what he came up with and setting the parking brake and releasing it a dozen times made the noise go away. Nothing like a free repair. Re: [MBZ] ES-300/ posted last week and never appeared
I saw this last week On 8/8/2012 3:05 PM, relng...@aol.com wrote: When my father passed in 1991, my mom stated that she was not going to be stuck at home. If you are looking for a newer car, Carmax is actually a good way to go. They are not the typical car business so you can feel free to test drive whatever you want and they do not pressure you. If you find something out of state and one of their other stores, you can have it transferred. On 8/8/2012 3:21 PM, Donald Snook wrote: Rick wrote: I take it you are giving the Lexus a try? It will be a good car, but will leave you wanting another German sedan. When you sell the Lexus, let us know... SWMBO needs a car soon. I am giving the Lexus a try. I'm sure it will be fine for a while. Then, you are probably right, I will be looking for a BMW or Mercedes. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy the lexus. I am getting a GREAT DEAL on it. So, I will drive it for a while and then sell it. I am currently working on a case that could be one of those cases lawyers talk about 20 years later. I am representing 6 firefighters that were injured in an explosion. If I am right about where the law in Kansas stands on one particular issue, I will be looking for a much newer BMW or Mercedes. Perhaps a 2013 BMW 750Li with twin turbo V-8 (445 HP and 480 lb.ft. Torque)? Or perhaps a 2013 S550? No. Probably not. I would probably buy a 2-3 year old S-Class or 7 series and save myself a $30,000 in depreciation. For example, I found a 2010 Mercedes S550 with only 12,000 miles for sale on Car Max for $68,000. The car sold for $95,000. So, $27,000 loss in value in 2 years and 12,000 miles! HOLY COW! The BMW didn't fare much better. I found a 2010 750Li with 16K miles for $65,000. Original price, $90,000! [MBZ] BMW For Sale
Tanya, Here's some information on my car if you know anyone you work with that might be interested. 2000 BMW 740iL Black exterior/ grey interior. VERY nice shape. The L model indicates it is the long version with 6 extra inches of leg room for the rear passengers. It has every option including Navigation, power window shades, premium sound, EDC (electronic damping control) as well as the DTC (dynamic stability and traction control). It also has one very interesting special order option. It has the security glass windows (very thick) and the STEEL sunroof rather than the glass sunroof. The paint is in excellent shape and the interior is also VERY CLEAN. All the options work. It has a cassette and 6 disc CD changer in the trunk. It also has the newer 4.4L engine that produces approx. 300 HP. It is a big improvement over the 4.0L engines in the previous models. 2001 was the last year for the E38 Chassis and the 2000 and 2001 are the most highly sought after. You can probably find a cheaper 7 series, but not one in this shape with this maintenance. I checked the various sources for prices on this car. Edmunds shows $6241, $6675 NADA, and KBB $7222 retail and $5800 private party. Price is $5800. It really is a nice car, with no problems and nearly 13 years of very particular maintenance and care. What physical difference is there between the sedan short block [crank, rods, pistons, block, cam chain drive/Injection pump drive] and the TD short block ? Other than the drive for leveling pump on the head aren't the bottom end of the engines the same? Assuming the head from your thrown rod engine can be returned to service, seems to me, using the short block [lower end] from a sedan version would widen the field quite a lot to find a serviceable engine. The parking area has free parking for MBs, so I rolled in there right past the gate and the $20 (!!!) toll collector, got directed to the MB parking area right next to the bus stop. There were actually not that many Benzes in the MB area though, kinda interesting, one E63 was there, in black, looked nice. Today was just a practice day, the main festivities are Th on, so maybe there will be more. At the golf park they had a big MB tent set up with about 6 or 7 cars in there, including this one that looked a lot like a CLS but more curvy, it was called a Styling Something, had a 4cyl engine and some kind of hybrid thing I think. They had two mini-golf setups in there where you could get your putter analyzed. Or maybe it was putting. Whatever, I don't know much about golf. It was two guys doing the analyzing, I did not want them around my putter so did not avail myself of that function. Had they been hot babes, maybe... The MB aspect was kinda lame, though they did have a C63 in there, all tarted up in some sort of racing look, with some stickers and such. Re: [MBZ] Benefits of a Benz or something
I might go back over there tomorrow and check things out again though it is likely to be total madness. I'll take notes. It was not bad traffic today but it was raining this morning so that might have kept the throngs away. Tomorrow is the first day of real play, so I guess all the fanatics will be there for that. Tstorms out over the water now, probably headed onshore again, will be interesting to see what tomorrow brings weather-wise. We haven't had any rain for like 3 months, then this golf thing starts and it has been raining like hell every day. I was thinking to ride my bike out to the venue but if it is hot/humid/raining again that is not a lot of fun, it is 10-12mi out to the Ocean Course. I just got back from the airport picking the boy up, if he can drag himself out of the bed in the morning we will head over there early, drive a Benz again and park for free. --R On 8/8/12 10:42 PM, Hendrik Fay wrote: You didn't take notes did you? PGA something or other. I have some disused tickees so decided to go over this morning to see what all the fuss is about. MBUSA is a big sponsor of the games. The parking area has free parking for MBs, so I rolled in there right past the gate and the $20 (!!!) toll collector, got directed to the MB parking area right next to the bus stop. The 84 SD looked pretty good amongst all the newer iron, though for some reason there was a Suburban parked next to me and then a Jaguar X pulled up. hmmm. And I saw this motorcycle, might have been a BMW, parked next to an ML. Now the parking area is out in old tomato fields, and it has been raining, and rained this morning more, so I was thinking that motorcycle next to that ML was gonna push that kickstand right down into the muck and end up a bookend on the ML... The description was a bit vague.. It was kinda weird, the interior had this floor kinda built across it just below the bottom of the windows so you could not see the whole interior. There was only one demo babe in there, and she was not really a demo dolly, looked more like some college girl volunteering in the space. One would think they would be targeting the golf geezers, some hot demo dollies would be the order of the day. Maybe some tall German blondes in tight leather outfits encouraging you to buy one... oops, where was I? Oh yeah... They also had this laptop with a vidcam set up you could make a video they would turn into a little flip book. I did not do that, though the little flip book was kinda neat but doing a stupid human trick to make it was kinda weird. There was a racing helmet and some golf clubs you could do something with. It looked pretty stock though, so not sure what that was about. No S class, no diesels. OK back to workies... --R ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I undid the positive lead, instead of negative. Was using wood and BFH to persuade the thermostat housing to let go.
