2011-01-14 Thread Ruth Bertella
Hi PT,

Thanks to you, and everyone else that responded as well, for your responses!!
I know she was tested for ‘some’ food intolerances, because the mother said the
3 yr. old was allergic to milk, peanuts, maybe flour, dust, dogs, and a LOT of
other things. I’m forwarding everyone’s responses to her (minus your
email/contact info), so hopefully this will give her a good start on things to
watch out for and websites to research to increase her knowledge about soy in
particular, and allergies in general. If she asks me any questions, you can be
sure I will forward them on to y’all.

Thanks again!

Ruth

Hi Ruth,

Do you know if she was tested for food intolerances as well? These would be
substances that would show a reaction several days after ingesting. You can
find out more at the website of Alcat Labs. She will need to stay away from
those foods for a period of time and then be retested to see where she stands.
I needed to stay away for 1 year (and it wasn't easy) but the number of foods I
was intolerant of dropped dramatically after a year. The other thing she needs
to do is rotate foods so she doesn't eat the same thing 2 or 3 days running.
The best is to wait 4 days and eat the food again on the 5th.

You are correct that wheat and soy are two very allergic foods. Of the
possible soy preparations, according to my research, the ones that are best are
the ones that Orientals eat. Real tofu along with tempeh and other kinds of
fermented soy products. The way westerners use soy is a problem, seemingly.
Also, as a food it should be rotated. Because of all the hormone issues with
soy I would be doubly careful about giving it to a young child.

Good luck to your friend and her daughter.

I spoke briefly with a family friend and found out her 3 year old daughter was
recently diagnosed with numerous allergies (too many to name here or that I can
remember). I asked what she was NOT allergic to, to which she said Wheat and
Soy. I found it strange since I thought wheat allergies were the most common,
but that’s what she said. I promised to ask all you knowledgeable people on my
health forums, so some of you may see this multiple times as I’m sending this
to a few different forums.

My question relates to Soy products. I know there are good and bad soy
products, but haven’t kept the posts I’ve seen from time to time on all my
forums since I didn’t have a need for that info, and was concerned that she
might start introducing the bad types to the poor child. I have no experience
or knowledge of how to deal with allergies. Could y’all let me know what
types of soy are good and bad, and maybe if there is something specific to look
for on packages? I guess she’d need to know any and all helpful hints you
could relate about dealing with allergies overall.

Thanks in advance for your usual wonderful suggestions!!

Ruth

Re: CS>Soy

2011-01-13 Thread jaxi
Sounds odd to me as well. Wheat and Soy are two of the biggest culprits
usually.

As for good versus bad soy. "good" soy is generally fermented. American's
altered the use of soy considerably from how it has been used in Asian
countires for generations. So my understanding is things like soy milk and
tofu and "bad" soy options.

No. But nearly everything you buy at your local supermarket is either GMO or
was fed GMOs. And even if it's non-GMO odds are it was sprayed with poison.
Support organic farmers if you really want to say "no thank you" to poisons

I did read most of the article and scanned the rest.

It is mostly about Frauds of the Food Industry.

I guess the Genius Doctor that wrote it, like you and others, believes all
the cholesterol fraud and crap. It mentioned that too much.

If you want to bet your life on one article, go ahead.

The whole article is intermixed with main stream ideas, half truths,
and suggestions that people eat too much soy. Nothing of value to most of us.

I have always said, .. Soy as the main source of protein is a
disaster, as are other sources.

Dig deep in proteins and amino acids, and you will find,

Milk beats all others, in many tests, .. hands down, not question
about it.

I used to drink a gallon of milk per day, 6 raw eggs, all the soy protein
I wanted, desiccated liver, REAL cooked liver, and steaks so big they
covered a platter and hung off on some sides.

So, .. tell me all about protein and amino acids.

I can't be sure, but I think your body chemistry is highly compromised.
So, .. you likely do not need to eat soy, and 1000 other things.

Again, along with me, 1,000,000 ( or several million ) more healthy people
have eaten tons of soy, usually as supplements, NOT as the main protein
source.

Anyone is a fool that has used soy or any other single food as the

2008-01-22 Thread Dan Nave
Morning Wayne,

While I don't agree with the negative comments on soy by the poster, I
believe it is correct to say that whole soybeans should not be eaten
raw. Raw soybeans contain a substance called trypsin inhibitor which is
detrimental to digestion and health. The trypsin inhibitor is
deactivated by an appropriate amount of heat, cooking. You may get by
without ill effects by eating a small quantity raw, but I don't know how
much that would be. Most (all) soy products use processes that remove
this problem. Cook your soybeans well before eating.

As far as soybeans reducing the uptake of iodine, that is similar to
cabbage family vegetables. A person just need to take a bit more iodine
in the diet. Most are not talking about the poisonous/toxic nature of
cabbages...

I have never had a problem with my favorite form of soy, which is tofu.
My dear sweet mom used to make it with stir fired veges when we had

I do not do so well with the fake meat soy products, or other highly

"Mercola is selling certain products because he believes in them and has seen
the good that they can do."

That's a reasonable statement, and one that could be made about any for-profit
organization (as is Mercola's). My concern is the tendency for some to be
reflexively biased against "big" businesses - unless they're businesses with
whom one identifies, in which case those businesses are perceived as having
only the purest of motives.

I can't see that because the article is old that that would make it

lauded as being the best thing since sliced bread, and as we know with the

*never* gets discredited. Mercola is still convinced that it is harmful and

You could place some of your Quoted TEXT within a few

>>I wonder where you people get all this bogus and untruthful information?

One important area all are overlooking due to the lack or
knowledge and wisdom about plants.

I will cover some of that also.

In the days of the "Soy revolution" it made men strong.
At one time, I knew the Olympic Weight lifting team and the coach.

One could do a ONE ARM bent press with 270 pounds.
Many could do 250 and more. That is a lift with one arm only.

All ate soy products. It made them weak and puny for sure.

Maybe sick people can't eat soy, ... and many other things.
But.. Healthy People have done so for years.

Later, a few facts on plants should explain some things, and put some new
light on the subject.

I agree with Dee, the argument it hasn't harmed me therefore it must

If you said, "Sick People" or "Diseased People", it might be true, but only

However, to make statements suggesting that something is true 100 % of the

Have you ever wondered about soy? It's promoted as the miracle food
that will feed the world while at the same time prevent and cure all
manner of diseases.

But what if all you've read about soy is nothing but a multi-million
dollar marketing strategy based on scanty facts, half-truths and lies?

Most people remain unaware that soy is known to contain an array of
potent chemical toxins. The modern manufacturing processes of
high-profit industries make no effort to remove these potent toxins.
High levels of phytic acid, trypsin inhibitors, toxic lysinoalanine and
highly carcinogenic nitrosamines are all present in soy products.

Phytoestrogens that disrupt endocrine function and are potent
antithyroid agents are present in vast quantities in soy, including the
potentially devastating isoflavone Genistein. Infants exclusively fed
soy-based formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in
their blood than babies fed milk-based formula, the estrogenic
equivalent of at least five birth control pills per day. Premature
development of girls has been linked to the use of soy formula, as has
the underdevelopment of males. Infant soy formula has been linked to
autoimmune thyroid disease.

Soy is linked to infertility, breast cancer, hypothyroidism, thyroid
cancer, and many other disorders.

"Imagine drugs that are known, by years of scientific documentation, to
be both carcinogenic and to also cause DNA and chromosome damage being
prescribed and administered through the food supply to populations of
many countries around the world without the knowledge or consent of the
individuals consuming these foods ... with no way to track dosage,
individual reactions, or harmful side-effects ... and without any
concern for some people’s increased vulnerability to these drugs, such
as cancer patients. It sounds crazy, but that is exactly what is
happening around the world when Soy is added to our food supply. Soy
contains the scientifically documented carcinogenic and DNA damaging and
chromosome damaging natural chemicals genistein and daidzein." - True
Health, the magazine of Carotec Inc., Naples, Florida. May/June 2004.

"(Soyfoods) are not nutrients. They are drugs."
Dr. L. White, Honolulu Aging Study.

How could anyone get away with this?

Re: CS>soy

2000-11-21 Thread russ e rosser
I've heard it specifically cited that too much soy in the diet can cause
hypothyroidism! I backed off after hearing that medical discussion on
talk radio. American Longevity sells an ostensibly complete protein
supplement consisting of WHEY with "a little soy mixed in too round out
the protein profile." I also spoke with a rep at the Life Extension
Institute about their HGH precursor, which (like so many other such
products) is just an amino mixture. When I asked about the soy powder I
already had, he said it is deficient in glutithione (I think); so asked
about WHEY, and he conceded (although losing a sale) that would suffice.
I currently using a drink mix called Whey to Go and a lesser amt of Bragg
Liquid Aminos (from soy).

BTW, non-genetically modified soy products are becoming very hard to
find!

Re: CS>soy

2000-11-21 Thread June Narber
Could you not give him goat's milk;
made vegetable juice from a juicer with organci carrots and other "mild
vegetables".
How about natural fruit juices juiced from non acidic fruitsmushed bananas
in purified water?
How about honey blend with organiz apples?
A few cold sores can be quickly fixed with vitamin E oil. You may have to risk
some sores to get
proper nutrition in him. The sores are a surface reaction, most like to
chemicals. As his immune
system kicks in, the sores will cease.
even with children, there are bound to be some unpleasant symptoms while the
over all objective is
being accomplished.
My opinion.
