Jude, I'm sorry to hear that you've had another UTI!! Those things are the burden of the world in my estimation.I'm glad you're now home and doing well. I don't know much from the list.I took my 57th dive in the hyperbaric chamber yesrerday and today besides the dive they'll check to see if I can take another skin graft next week... this takes 3 hours per day so with that and trying to get my affairs in order, I don't have much time for the list. I talked to Jude August 22nd and she was actually doing quite well. The best I've heard her sound in a very long time. She said to tell the TM Family she loves all of us and thinks of us often. Her new computer still isn't set up - or at least it wasn't at the time I spoke with her. She does have a sore on the bottom of her foot that it not healing, and her doctor mentioned gangrene - so we need to keep her in our thoughts and prayers. Really miss hearing from her. Thank you Ella. I did talk with Jude this morning. I reached her at a good time as they had just given her some really good pain medicine - this has to be the first time I have talked to Jude when she wasn't in excruciating pain! They started an IV for the UTI, but she told me they had already tried that antibiotic and it didn't work. So she is confused. She was told it needs to be cleared up because her surgery date is March 20th. Then the pain med kicked in and she needed to sleep. She says hi to everyone and sends her love. I wish they would just take her over to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. It is about an hour and a half from McLaren's and is an excellent hospital. Cutting edge technology and the top notch doctors. I wouldn't be wasting my time at McLaren's in Flint. Gosh. So frustrating. Poor, poor Jude. I feel so helpless reading all of this. Patti, I just sent a note to the list saying the same thing about U of M in Ann Arbor. Much, much better hospital. I think not even an hour and a half from the Flint hospital. I used to live in Fenton (near Flint) and was never impressed with McLaren's hospital. We always drove the extra to use U of M when needed. Did my note make it to the list by the way? I never see it. I too want to thank you so much for keeping us informed of what is happening to Jude. She is in our prayers and our thoughts! It's hard to believe all that she has been through. Yet she still worries about us! I must admit that I have come and gone on this list over the last 7 yrs... but Jude has been faithful. When one of us suffers we all suffer When I got home today I was almost afraid to check the list for fear that she had gotten much worse. I have lost Jude's home address. My TM was diagnosed at University of Michigan Hospital in 2005. I was hospitalized for a week prior in Minnesota, while the doctors bickered over a diagnosis. It is a darn good hospital, and I met a lot of nice people, whom I still keep in touch with. I believe Jude would get top-notch medical care at the U. Thanks Pam for posting the update. Well, I'm not even quite sure what to say at this point. We all know obviously somewhere along the line Jude's medical care went south. We have watched her suffer for a very long time now. I have talked to her on the phone, but usually she is so weak it is hard to understand her. This has been so heartbreaking. I know that Pam and Gunny and I'm sure many others have personally been in contact with her medical team (or lack thereof) in effort to get the much needed help for our dear Jude. Pam is on a mission - let's hope that something positive comes from this for Jude. Jude, when you are able to join us again, please know that you are always in our thoughts. I did receive an email from Jude a few days ago and it was the first time I had heard some real excitement in her voice. She was having visitors - her niece, husband and their 3 children were coming for a visit and she was getting all gussied up for them. Then she did say that she had a violin shaped new sore and a blazing UTI. She really has such a great outlook. I'm not sure how she can stand to be in such horrible pain all the time. I did witness answers to our prayers regarding the care she is receiving at the nursing home. The aid that cared for Jude today was super. She told Jude that she went to Administration and asked if she could be Jude's nurse, it was time to put things behind them. They hugged, teared up and I watched this lady give the kind, carrying, and respectful treatment that we all want to receive. She was likely with us about twenty minutes while she transferred Jude. After the aid left I asked Jude what the reunion was about - was she one of the nurses that Jude had trouble with? She was! Jude said she had been a good aid in the past and she wasn't just putting on a show for me. She said this lady turned ugly toward her and made her night miserable (the night we heard about a few weeks ago.) Jude had no fear of having her as her aid today and complimented her on how comfortable she made the transfer. These people must all realize how fragile Jude's life is and know she wasn't making up her additional weakness from the MRSA. By-the-way she will hopefully have her laptop hooked up tonight. So send her a post. It was a pleasant visit, although, sobering to know that antibiotic is truly her lifeline at this time. (I taught a Sunday School class once titled Jesus is my LSD - Life Saving Device.) The kids loved it! Patti Patti

I just got off the phone with Jude.can't add much to what Pam has already told us. they have her on Vancomycin which is the antibiotic for MRSA along with seven other antibiotics. They will do a six week course and then take a break and then another six week course of the antibiotics. The infection is in the bone and blood stream. She told me if this doesn't work and it turns septic then it's bye-bye. Jude knows what's waiting for her on the other side if that happens so she is really handling all of this well. She was cheerful with meeven got her to laugh once. :-) She started getting sleepy so I let her go with the promise I would call in a few days. Dave is retired as of today and they are both happy about that.Jude is planning on spending some quality time with him now. This is appalling. I told you guys last month that you have to contact the ombudsman of the place where she is, they all have them. I know that one person called, but you need to call again. You need to call everyday! The ombudsman's job is make sure that things like this don't happen to patients, but you have to keep him informed! He probably talked to the staff once after you called before, and then he forgot about Jude. Call everyday!! This is criminal, and someone should take photos and keep records, because there could be a malpractice suit here. Jude cannot get this help for herself, you guys who are close to her have to take charge and DEMAND that she get better care, or they will just put her into a corner to die. It may already be too late to save her, (Don't forget, Christopher Reeve died ultimately of a bedsore, and he had the best care that money could buy), but at least we can help make Jude comfortable now. Patti and Pam, Thank you so much for keeping us up to date on our Jude. After reading what you have both written, it seems that there may still be some hope for Jude to make it through this. I know I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers. It still amazes me how people who are there to care for those in need DO NOT DO THEIR JOBS!! Or, do not do them properly. You hear about it all the time on the news or in magazines. Boy, this really hits home for us though. We now know first hand why so many that go into the skilled nursing facilities do not ever make it back home again. Lack of proper care runs rampant. This is really a wake-up call for all of us. We have got to really keep the eyes open if any of us, or anyone that we care about is ever put into the situation of needing some care like this. Thanks for the update Pam. I'm sorry to hear of Jude's gastro problems and hope that this is resolved quickly. Wow, 5 months is a very long time. Again, Gunny, a big thank you for going the distance and then some to get better treatment for Jude. I can't imagine nurses treating Jude badly. Sounds like they need to find a new profession. Hi Pam and All ~ I also talked with Jude.last night. I don't think they are taking her to the hospital for hyperbaric chamber treatmentsshe told me last night that her insurance won't pay for them... Jude fell out of bed the other morningthey took x-rays and nothing is broken...she's badly bruised and has really sore tendons. I hope nothing happened during the night last night after I talked with her .she had the night nurse from h___ ...the one that won't do anything for her. She told me her bed sores are healingthat her doctor said they look the best they ever have. She's hoping to go home the end of the month when Dave retires. She asked me to tell all of you that she misses you and loves you! She gets lonely without all of you and can't wait to get back online with everyone. This is horrible. Every hospital has an ombudsman, whose job is to speak on behalf of those who cannot or will not speak for themselves, and to intervene in problems between patients and staff. Just call the hospital and ask to speak to the ombudsman, and tell him or her what is going on here. It will be taken care of. Nobody should be left to cry in pain And if the staff doesn't like what you've done and think they might like to take it out on poor Jude, tell that to the ombudsman too. Hi All I Just sat down to my computer to report on my visit to Jude on Thursday when I saw the post from Pam. This was my first time to meet Jude in person and we had a nice visit. I tried to visit Jude about a month ago, but she wasn't feeling well and asked me not to come. I called on Thursday to tell her I was coming to take a book I had told her about and that was when I found out all she has been through in the past month. As Pam said, Jude developed a staph infection in her pressure sore and had been sick with a UTI. She was taken from a nursing to the hospital where at some point a vein in the pressure broke and she lost enough blood that she had to be given three pints of blood after the vein was stitched shut. The antibiotics she was given for the staph infection were so harsh she needed to have a pic line inserted in her chest. Jude asked me to pass this information on to the group. An infectiious disease doctor visited Jude the day of my visit. He did not like the looks of the pressure sore and wondered if the infection had reached the bone. He also didn't like the looks of the surgery of or around the vein that had ruptured. As I said this was my first time to visit Jude and I'm looking forward to going back sometime this week. Jude refused to go back to the first nursing home and was placed in a home withing six miles of me. That is unbelievable since I'm used to driving 15 miles to my Mom's and 45 miles to see my daughter and grandson. Just think, Jude and I are just six miles apart. Jude was in good spirits. She has a youthful face and a sweet smile. Jude looks young for her age - which is one year younger than me! Has been reading for the first time in months. Misses her computer and all of you. I took her the last book I finished 90 Minutes in Heaven by Don Piper (a must read). She said she misses not having her Dad's Bible with her, but didn't want to take it to the nursing home so I'm taking her one of mine from home. We prayed together for her healing and she asked me to get the word out that she is in need of your prayers too. Pam, It is comforting to know that you are close enough to Jude to go and see her. I've had her in my prayers for many weeks now and will continue to pray for her until I can't pray anymore. I was sitting in bed feeling sorry for myself when I decided to get online and see whats going on. It just breaks my heart to hear about how bad she feels. Like Alton I think everyone has adopted Jude to one degree or another. Please let her know that she is in my prayers, I know that that poor girl is teird of this crap but tell her to fight as hard as she can and know that we all love and miss her. I can't wait to hear her back on line again. Her humor and devotion to our people is really missed. I bet she is wanting to write to us, she always has a lot of interesting things to talk about. I can't understand how her pressure sores got so bad, surely her Doctors should have caught this long ago. I know that pressure sores can get bad if they are unattended, but to get this bad so quic! kly jus t doesn't seem right to me. Please give her a hug for me the next time you see her. I also came off neurontin (3600 mg a day) and went on lyrica (225 mg a day) and had no trouble changing over. Lyrica has helped the burning and tingling in my legs tremendously, and I no longer have the diarrhea caused by neurontin. Priscilla in TN
