I have used an android smartphone as a wifi hotspot with no problems with
ubuntu (from 10.04). Most dongles should work with it anyway. From my very
limited experience the huawei ones work right out of the box, it is just a
question of changing a setting so that it connects via the dongle
I've used an Android device with no issues, but I've also had some success
with the Huwei USB dongles - both from 3 and O2.
I think 3 are pretty good from a data plan rate...

My desktop menu seems to be incredibly slow. Very slow on first load,
and it seems to miss a lot of right-clicks.
Is there a hidden timeout value for this that I am missing?
It is not much faster without icons... it appears to be XFCE4 based.

I have some new information see attachment for logging.
It appears traffic gets routed outside and recieves a invalid responce,
version 1.5.6-2ubuntu2 handles this well, version 1.5.6-2ubuntu2.3 breaks.
If I block traffic to 169.254.169.254 with ip tables facter works again.
