[313] Technasia Sets...

2002-04-13 Thread Mark S Flintoft
OK, after following the link on Technasia's site you wind up here:
http://www.ejay.co.uk/netradio/channels_single_techno.php?menue_name=techno%
20orbit# (you'll probably have to cut n' paste that, sorry)

After that you can't directly access the set...it seems they have rotating
sets by multiple residents including Technasia. If anyone can figure out if
there are archives on this site let me know as the layout of this site is
damned confusing.

However a short clip of their live PA @ I Love Techno can be found on this
page...

Hans Veneman wrote on Thu, 11 Apr 2002 about following:

I'll bet Josh said the same thing about 'Lil Louis before he was forced to
own up to the similarities of How's Your Evening So Far to French Kiss...

Cool thing about that release was it had the orginal FK on the flip thereby
educating the kids who thought Wink had done an original tune;-)

Hey Dave,

eheee heee and I didn't even have to shell out any cash for that fiasco!;-)
God damn that was one infuriating night!

BTW... Function absolutely rocked it at Kazu and Masa's (Vinyl Market NYC)
new TechnoNYC party at Filter 14 here in NYC last night. Dave dropped
brilliant 313-type dark Techno for a solid 2 hours...think Ruskin, Surgeon,
Denham type stuff. I highly recommend all the NY heads check out this party
in future weeks. The system is really great, it wasn't too crowded and the
drink prices are quite reasonable...had Grammenos and I sweating it out on
the Dance floor until 3:30;-)

[313] ALL AREA ACCESS PASS

2002-04-12 Thread Mark S Flintoft
It's not a press pass, to my understanding, it's a vip card. you'll be
able
to get into special areas where cardholders can't... like vip rooms in
 clubs...

Assuming people/events actually honor the passes it sounds like good value
to me...especially if you don't have any local/industry connections.

Re: [313] dj technical Q about mixers.

2002-03-26 Thread Mark S Flintoft
Hmmm, I have a PMC 270A which I like a lot, I haven't tried the PCV 275
but as far as I know it's the same thing just with digital faders. The DJM
500 has more inputs but I agree the knobs and faders don't have quite as
nice a feel. They both have effects send and return if I am not mistaken.
The cue level meter on the Vestax is awfully handy. Are you buying this new
or used? The Vestax should be WAY cheaper if you're buying new, which is
what made my mind up!;-)

Some stuff I have come across in my own collection in the last year or so...

Total Planet Refreshment Birds of Pressure Kanzleramt KA 10 (tweaky
Heiko Laux stuff from '96.)

Ron Maney Cari Lekebusch Intensity Hybrid Hyb 016 (another track from
96...B side is brilliant.)

Black Mass Black Mass Foundation Sound Works FD 001 (yet another one
from '96! Double pack of nice Tribal Techno cuts.)

Pure Science The Evolution EP Re-Hab Music RHB 003 (Totally forgot about
this one until I came across it about year ago in a stack of records from,
you guessed it... '96. I have been offered $500 for this one by a certain
big name NYC jock...I like it way too much to sell though. Prototypical
Tech House - the good kind that is;-)

Syndromeda Minimal Damage Vol 1 Club Craft Club 08 (another one from
that '96 stack! Nice minimal Mills-ish stuff from Justin Drake and Clive
Henry before they became Peace Division...really nice stuff.)

This thread has inspired me to do the yearly run through of the
collection...be nice if I could unearth some more forgotten treasure...

[313] PAs / Kitten and The Hacker / Joel Mull

2002-03-17 Thread Mark S Flintoft
PLAnd I just had a thought that perhaps this is another reason why
electro-pop is blowing up- because they always have singers (and often
good-looking women for maximum audience response from predominantly-male
music-geek community - adult, miss kitten, peaches, chix on speed :)

I think you have a point there Peter...

I went to see Kitten and The Hacker here in NYC at Fun not too long ago and
I have to say that while technically it was the most boring PA I think I
have ever seen the crowd really seemed to get off on it. I would definitely
say having Kitten up there was a factor in the crowd reaction. I enjoyed it
too as I am a big fan of both Kitten + The Hacker, but I mean it lasted
maybe 15 or 20 minutes, Hacker seemed to have everything stored in
something the crowd couldn't even see (they were up on a tall platform kinda
thing), and I swear after the song started and he had tweaked one or two
knobs the man basically just stood there. Gotta say Ulysses' electroDEEP
HouseTechno and back again set made the night...that and hearing Frank
Sinatra performed live;-)

I have always enjoyed PAs in intimate spaces more than those in bigger
venues...
The best PA I saw last year was Joel Mull at Guernica. I was sitting (with
fellow 313ers Pete Grammenos and Alex Lugo) about 2 feet from Joel for the
first 15 minutes of his set and it was really cool to watch him punch
patterns into the MPC virtually non-stop. I would have loved to watch him
through his entire set but I had to get up and get down along with the rest
of the crowd. Yeah that's right people DANCING during a PA!!;-) BTW...this
was in the early morning hours of September the Eleventh 2001. To go from
the high of that night to the low of later that morning was quite a
thing

Peace,

m*

An outfit called Phase II in the late 80s/early 90s, had substantially
the
  same members

Most famously, Reachin'. From around the same time check out their other
work on labels like Quark If You Should Need A Friend, Movin' (check
Before The Storm's I Got The Music and aforementioned Phase II
Reachin')
or Easy Street (my favourite Blaze track from this era's In-Sync feat
Jerry
 Edwards' Sometimes Love).

in collaboration with Dave Lee (who one could say is a well-known 'Brit
 Fad
freak', but I wouldn't dream of it ;o). The rest of the tracks were
mostly
by Blaze under different names. I can post details Weds.

Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro), I think, is about as far removed from a fad
freak
as you can get! I don't know of anyone as deep in the disco spirit as this
man. Sure, he's had his pop hits, but this man is disco through and
through.
 Success or no.
Check out his excellent Sunburst Band releases on his own label Z, or many
 of his wicked remakes.

I've come across the names Hedge, Milan, Herbert so often on 'anonymous'
disco-house records from the early '90s, I've almost stopped noticing.

Far from anonymous disco house, Blaze are, if any group are, the most
deserving of a chapter to themselves in the big ol' book o' house, from
the
90s. Check out any of their classic work for Shelter, Funky People,
Simplex,
Area Code (Love For You never leaves my bag). Their production of Debbie
Pender's Movin' On, alongside fellow New Jersey musicians, Smack and
Kerri
Chandler, helped define that UK garage sound (like it or no). Check out
the
comps on Easy Street, Blaze Productions vols 1 2 to see how massive they
 were in
the 90s. Those signature Moog solos on Moonwalk and others are far from
anonymous disco :) A closer analogy would be with That's The Way OF The
 World era EWF, I reckon.

Funnily enough, Blaze themselves are probably entirely unaware of their
influence. They admit to knowing hardly anything about contemporary house
music (KDJ? who's that?) beyond what they get at the Shelter. Or so said
Timmy Regisford. Apparently they have a massive loft studio in New York,
which they rarely get out of.

Oh, and their Motown album was heralded by Motown execs - after they
dropped
them! - as one of the best 20 albums (I think) that the label had
released!

Of course, Blaze didn't stop making fine music in the 90s! They're at it
 more than ever now.

 Jonny.

Re: [313] Alcohol-free / Hawtin review...

2002-03-05 Thread Mark S Flintoft
it's funny isn't it but i suspect a booze-less club over here would
immediately arouse the suspicions of the authorities...

 a cultural difference i guess

Ohh but they do... one of the drawbacks of going to DT's Friday night
party, and there are quite few these days unfortunately, is that there are
always a few undercover cops cruising around trying to spot dealers. Not to
mention the paranoid bouncers who routinely throw innocent people out
because they were thought to be doing some sort of drug. Any club with no
booze is automatically suspected of heavy drug 'infiltration'and those
suspicions are generally spot on, for better or worse.

Honestly I'd rather be in a club where people (not candi-ravers;) are on e
than a club rammed with drunks. I went to the Tronic party at Baktun
tonight and danced to Richie Hawtin, Magda, and Miss Honey Dijon until
4AM...only problem was the number of idiots from parts unknown who got
pissed, sweaty, jumped around at what they perceived to be an appropriate
moment, SLAMMED into unsuspecting punters constantly AND stepped on
people's feet whilst they were dancing. I just got finished cleaning my
Nikes and am decidedly in an anti-booze mood just now;-)

I am a drinker, but being totally inconsiderate of one's fellow revelers is
never cool imho.

Laters,

m*

btw...first hour of Hawtin's set kinda bored me but the second got a little
housier and more interesting. Magda rocked it as usual! Honey really
surprised me and played really hard, impressive. Was surprised to notice
Richie using the same laptop (Sony VAIO) I use and love!

I completely agree George...

I don't see why most DJs these days feel the need to pigeonhole themselves
into one particular genre...god forbid they should drop a track that
deviates even slightly from their chosen sub-sub-genre. That is just boring
imo.

Mix it up for God's sake, this shit is supposed to be fun!

There are still DJ's that mix up different types of music in a manner you
describe. It's getting rarer to see someone like this, but it still
happens
(insert shameless plug for myself!). I think that DJ's have gotten
themselves stuck in this I will only play [X thpe of music] and if you're
coming to see me that's all you'll get. mode. Personally, I think people
WANT more variety and, back in 1987-1993, that's exactly what most Detroit
DJ's gave the crowds. I cam into DJ'ing in 1990 from working with Gary
Chandler, Rob Brown, and Charles Henderson at a car audio shop (the last
two
you probably wouldn't know unless you live and breathe local detroit
DJ's).
Back then, no one played just 1 type of music. We all played house, hip
hop,
miami bass, techno, or whatever; that was the norm. In the few shows I've
done in the last year, I watch the crowd react with an Oh-no-he-didn't!
attitude if I mixed some extra crusty NWA or World Class Wreckin Cru into
an
electro mix or Blow Your House Down over anything. I never stopped
mixing
music genere's, it's not necessary. People like it, I can't understand why
 anyone would stop doing it.

The music is the truththat is all I know. However, I'm not the only
one
firing off cannons. Recently while watching CNN, there was a news segment
covering Elton John FLAMING the music industry for lowest common

marketing. He said that the good musicians and music were actively being
passed over in favor of the rubbish msuic the industry was putting
out...He
was speaking up for amazing and plentiful songwriters that were not being
given the medium to express and were languishing from lack of support and
felt that it was detracting from the quality of human existence.

Yeah it's amazing how readily the AOL using hordes devour the crap served up
to 'em just because MTV or fuckin' Access Hollywood tells 'em too. Has
anyone else noticed the overabundance of covers making supposedly
'innovative' new artists famous (see Alicia Keys, Orgy, Alien Ant Farm
etc...). Where the Hell is the originality??? Seems to me people are just
too lazy to expend the effort and seek out something truly different and
interesting... Whatever happened to thinking for one's self, hmmm??

I have to walk past MTV every afternoon on the way to work... The little
brainwashed tykes obediently huddled behind the police barriers, just
waiting to catch a glimpse of Carson whatsisname and whichever boyband of
the moment happen to be appearing on TRL, truly make me ill.

Dunno what to tell you Ken...

I like the vocal, the full one on the concept release that is. I make no
apologies for liking it either. I understand the track is getting played a
lot on your side of the pond and I would imagine hearing it all the time
would become quite tiresome. Personally I would like a dub version of the
vocal as the original is a just too much if I am not in the mood for it.

I'm not saying it's my favorite Octave One track though, not by a long
shot. I love the Burden's productions as a general rule and choosing a
favorite would be hard, it's just something that moves me.

 Mark,
Ask yourself this: If Anyone other than Octave 1 had done this vox
version,
how much would you respect it? My suspicion is that the 'halo' effect of
it
being O1 engendered by the superb body of work which the brothers have
previously supplied, helps some to see this as outstanding. I disagree
(although I haven't heard the new mix apparently recorded here - a few
days
ago) ... O1 and others have done and can do much better ...

[313] (313) Fade In Techno / re-edits

2002-02-28 Thread Mark S Flintoft
Exactly my point Tristan...

As anyone who knows me knows I am long-time fan and friend of one D.
Tenaglia. Though I am disappointed with the progressive shite he's been
playing of late - thankfully here in NYC @ Vinyl he doesn't actually play as
much of that as I'm told he does abroad. Danny has been doing subtle
re-edits, with Pro-Tools, of all manner of tracks, burning them on CD-R
and using them in his sets for like 4 years now. I love it when I hear
something out on the dancefloor that I love and it's just a bit different
(and a lot of times even better)! At this point I would say he spins about
50% CDs and most of them are tailored by him, for him, as well. A couple
of DT's edits that stand out in my mind are a nice one of Microworld's
Signals, and a version of the original mix of Plastic Dreams that ditches
all the cheesy piano crap at the end and stretches the 'good' part out quite
a bit. It's a great way to mark yourself out from the pack IMHO - even if
the only ones picking up on it are the few of us really know the music.
Once I actually get my Sony VAIO set up right I plan on burning some edits
of my own. I quite fancy extended versions of some of my favorite Mills
tracks.

With all the bickering over this thread I feel I oughta reiterate my feeling
that I look on mixing tracks with a fade-in as a challenge. Yeah it's a
pain in the ass to get it right, but when you do manage it, it feels (and
sounds) pretty damn nice!=) The trick I use if the monitors are too damn
loud, and others use as well I am sure, is matching BPMs in the middle of
the track and then pumping the gain and/or the levels up to cue the
beginning of the track up, then turning 'em down to where they oughta be as
you bring the track in. Having said that, on those nights I am not really
on it I would appreciate having a more 'friendly' version available;)

Dave Clark wrote:
Try going to some of those glitchy German (Villalobos, Isolee) or
West Coast (Twerk, Safety Scissors) guys and mixing those, when you
come back to techno things suddenly seem a -lot- easier.

I have to agree with that completely Dave...I would add Brinkman to that
list as well;-)

If you're making an un-mixed compilation for yourself, which I do from time
to time as it's nice to hear the whole track, the fade-in tracks are
actually preferable to those that bang in from the start.

Sorry if this post isn't terribly coherent but I am a little drunk and
tired...

Cheers,

m*

NP - http://www.klubradio.de/rams/robhood.ram (So nice!)

Wow, that's a really good idea! To take it a step further (or maybe not as
far actually), you could sample 1-bar loops of all your DJ-unfriendly
tracks, then burn them to CD. Bring it with you wherever you go, then you
could loop the 1 bar, mix it in, then double up with the actual track
(which would make the cue point mostly irrelevent), or you could have all
three tracks in the mix (or whatever the context demands). This way when
you
know you're playing a booth with a CD-player, you can bring your
DJ-unfriendly records too. Just a thought...

I don't really find this to be a huge issue, but sometimes I screw up my
sets of 32 if I rush to find the cue point and it *is* annoying. When I
make
tracks without a fade in, I try to get a discernable beat with a good cue
point in there by the 8th or 16th bar b/c I want to make my tracks
 listenable and DJable.

 Hi all,

A lot of the old records by Mills have tracks on them that do not start at
normal volume levels, but somehow the track gets faded in. (And not only
 Mills of course)

Am I the only one who thinks of this being a real drag? I really like a
specific track from AX009 but I find it really impossible to mix when
there
is a monitor speaker blasting in my left ear. These are the type of
records
that cause major trainwrecks in my DJ sets!

I consider most of Mills' stuff being really DJ friendly, but why does he
produce his tracks this way? Also, anyone got tips on dealing with this?

TC I picked up a great 12 in Rubadub yesterday by DFA (Deterministic
Finite
Automata), snappily titled 'Microstructural Chracterization' on
Surveillance
Recordings from Detroit. 3 tracks of minimal but extremely soulful and
melodic electronic house/techno, very very nice indeed. Just wondering if
anyone had any more info on DFA or the Surveillance label, and if there's
any other recommended material worth checking out?

Hey Tom,

If you recall I put it in my top 10 for 2001...can't say as I know anything
about the artist or label though...

TC Their website (http://www.surveillancerecordings.com/) looks great but
 there's no actual content...

I found http://www.surveillance.net doing a quick search but that is another
label altogether...though also from Detroit, and also techno. Seems
strange that there are two Techno labels in the same city with the same
name!

Lemme know if you find out anything! It would be nice if someone could shed
some light on the subject.

Ohhh and for something in a similar vein you should check out AJ Hunter's
Pressure Point EP on Parotic Music, track it down and you'll find it's well
worth the effort... It's probably the most interesting record I bought all
of last year, seriously deep Techno/House with a Chicago feel and
intriguing programming - the record has such a beautifully textured sound to
it (if that makes any sense;-)

[313] - Adult Only # 12 and 313?

2002-02-07 Thread Mark S Flintoft
Well once again I can't sleep, and as I often do when that happens I
started playing some records. The last record I pulled out was...

Vinyl Line West Station Adult Only AO 12 (though it says AO11 in the
run-out)

I usually play the B side which is a nice smooth house cut co-produced by C.
Carrier and one of my favorite house producers Jef K called Stamper
Square...

Anyways long story short, this morning I decided to play the A side and in
the first breakdown of the first track there is a computer sounding female
vocal that states 'Enter Area Code 313' before the track kicks back in...
It's kind of strange as the label art is what appears to be Osaka Japan's
subway system, while the info side has a few generic skyscrapers on it.

So I am wondering, what this little 313 snipet is doing on a record with no
obvious 313 ties (at least to my over-tired brain;)? The track titles are
A1 West Station, A2 Ladbroke Groove and B1 Stamper Square...any Detroit
signifigance to those?? Is Osaka's area code 313 too??;-)

Not that I actually expect any answers, I just thought I'd share...

Off to try and get some zzs,

Subject: NY weekend of May 12th

2001-05-03 Thread Mark S Flintoft
That's not the question though: I heard something about Richie H and John A
playing Twilo on Friday 11th? Is that correct?

C'est vrai...I think I am getting too old for the 'super-club' thing so I'll
be at Vinyl for Danny Tenaglia, as usual, where I can dance (most times
anyhow;) without being hit in the face with a glowstick or having my feet
trod upon;). Plus Richie's nights at Twilo are $35.- and my ass is broke.

Saturday is the Tresor-party so that's fixed.

I wouldn't be caught dead at that party...Limelight is nasty, it's $35,
and the acoustics are awful in there (it is/was a church remember;).
Different strokes for different folks though...
I'll be at the Dietrich Schoenemann gig at The Pyramid that night if I am in
town, much better crowd IMHO. Then again I may go check out Felix...

Is BodySoul still running on Sunday?

Yeeesssgo early I hear it's crowded these days.

Other stuff going on in NY?

Ricardo Villalobos is at Baktun on the 10th...
On the 11th Assault is at The Knitting Factory...
And Felix Da Housecat is at Centro-Fly on the 12th...

How long you gonna be here for?

Cheers,

m*

i've recently been digging the jazzanova remix of men

who did the original (and on what label, when did it
come out, etc.) i seem to remember it having
something to do with the prescription/clairaudience

Here is the info on the record...

Chuggles

Side B : Chuggles (Division and North Mix)
 Chuggles (Bonus Mix)
Written by Chez Damier, Ralph Lawson, and Carl
Produced by Chuggles

Scratched in the run-out is I've Been Changed

3 mxs+prod. by Chuggles. Infamous Prescription label group featuring Chez
Damier is back. Soulful, deep and disco edged Chicago house, with slicing
strings and gritty vocal sample on the A-side. B-side feat. a bass heavy big
groovy dub, and bonus mix with sassy added female vocal.

I do know of another Chuggles record - aside from those you mentioned -
called Deep Alarm on 20/20 Vision, A-side : Deep Alarm; B-side : Deep
Beats. Plus I found this in Carl Finlow's discog on the

Made In Detroit Ford Focus / Pu-Bahs...Revolution.

2000-11-10 Thread Mark S Flintoft
Those interested in seeing the Made In Detroit Ford Focus concept car
(previously mentioned by Mr. Deason) should check out
http://www.autoweek.com it's on their homepage (the silver panel-van looking
thing at the top of the page). As far as the use of No UFOs for that
commercial I say good for Juan if he can make a few bucks on the deal...good
for me cause it's one less commercial I'll have to fast-forward through;)
At least Juan is lending his sound to a quality product - despite what the
eloquent Dr Styles would have you believe the Focus is a quality bit of kit
(I hope he was joking about Pontiac though, those cars really do suck;)

  E-Type is the name of a horrible, long-haired euro-dance

assume that 'E-Type Mix' means that he did the remix.

I wondered about the same thing, but the eurodance E-Type is from
Sweden, whereas this E-Type is/are from Germany. And like urban fox

*Sorry to continue this thread...but n8 is obviously quite worked up. What
say we not beat anyone down?

It was not my intention to advocate purchasing the offending record as a
means of clearing it from store shelves.

It has however been done.

That the record in question was purchased in bulk, by a single shopper at
one NY store, is a fact.

For whatever reason the record seems not to have been restocked - this is a
good thing IMHO. Am I allowed to be pleased by Jaguar's absence from my
line of sight while shopping? I think so.

Am I happy that the record is not on the shelves where naive youngsters
might get their hands on it?:) Yup. Just be grateful I've not mentioned
who is rumored to have done the purchasing. I refuse to pass along
ridiculous speculation.

The injustice of the UR v sony/bmg drama pisses me off as much as anyone,
if not more. Excuse me for bringing a little levity to an otherwise grim
situation.

Just thought I'd bring this up...

Wasn't the term 'cracker' house mentioned previously on the list?? Seems
apropos here=)

**So as to keep this post on the 313 tip...

I'm gonna buy a pile of vinyl this weekend. Anyone have any recomendations
for me on good techno released in the last couple of months - that I might
not otherwise think of??

Thanks in advance...

Mark*

Been beatin' my head against the wall since Sat...I missed out on Mr.
Parrish's set Sat night you see...Damn!! Thanks to Diana and Ana for making
me jealous:)

Whoever these foo's are they are about to get a beat down from the tru

only is this insulting to my integrity as a person actively involved in

 which should fail miserably y'all.

 Do ya hear me?

These so-called Godfathers of Techno sound like sum white supremicists

Perhaps this mp3.com page has been discussed before...and I hope this is
a
joke. Otherwise its pretty blasphemous to Detroit Techno. The use of
the

Agreed. The Respect nights tend to have quite good music with the
 exception of the headliner.

I mean at the previous one, the crowd was eating up the extremely awful
set of Dmitri from Paris, and then left in droves when Theo Parrish came
on. The 70's soul might of been a bit unorthodox, but was much better
 then anything Dmitri spun.

MSF - Too right! It's nice how it clears out after the Headliner, more
room to shake one's ass! The Respect nights are always seem to bring out
the finest ladies in Manhattan - I guess it's the french thing! Gil'br's
set was pretty dope the night Dimitri was there. Look out for the one year
anniversary party commin' up soon.
Cheers - MSF* Now back to the 313

Got it. You would have loved Sven Love and Jef K's set @
Twilo the night the Jaxx played. Those 5 hours more than made up for the
Jaxx's crappy 40 minute re-hash of their album - now that shit was dep!

Hmm, hard to say. I don't think I've tried to define it come to think
of it... I dunno... I guess I could do it by example - for house music
you could definitely see Theo Parrish as deep - Chris Gray...
umm.. GU... etc etc It doesn't work so well by example, but I'm
driving at deep as something that's not hugely pumping, something
that you can listen to on the headphones whilst relaxing or
whatever, something that doesn't only sound good whilst being
played loud on a big system. Something that you can listen to a
few times, many times and still hear new things. Or just something
to break up the beats, something to tone it down a little and give
the dancers a break. Ya know what I mean? :)

 I agree when
someone has 4 hours to work w/ he should build iit up break it down
and generally mix it up a bit(thus my previous question).

Yeah, that was my main qualm. Plus the music just wasn't very
 interesting.

Has Stacey Pullen done any radio in Perth or elsewhere in Australia other
than Melbourne? In theory he would have had time to do some over there (or
in Adelaide) during this week. Just wondered. Anyone tune in and hear the
Kiss FM show in Melbourne? It went for an hour. And I missed it. Damn.

 I suppose it's best I say this now: there's a possibility I'm talking
through my hat and the guy never said anything to pullen. It was
second hand information (albeit from a reliable source) so as soon
as I see this guy, I'll get all the details! If he didn't, well I guess
it's
 the stocks for me :)
Also I'm not saying that it was right to go up to him either... but I
 can understand it.

Anyway, Alton Miller, GU and Chris Gray, all coming to perth soon.
Should be a summer of house music! :)

Basically at this gig the local dj's far outshone
the hired help. I know many people at this gig, myself included,
came away dissappointed by what was on offer.

Sorry to hear about your recent disappointment w/ Stacey. We @ IN-SITE love
Mr. Pullen and found his recent NYC shows (Twilo and The Cooler) to be
faultlessly deep. Mike Bindra-Twilo's manager-was blown-away, and for
those of you who know Mike that is saying a lot!
As far as the Jaxx being cheese, well we're all entitled to our opinions.
I happen think the Jaxx's production work has always been brilliant
(although the current stuff is over played and over hyped) but they are not
the DJ's they once were (anyone who saw them spin @ their London club a few
years ago will know what I'm talking about). I recently had the misfortune
to see them play @ Twilo - talk about crap they spun for maybe 45 min.s to
an hour and only played one track that was not their own - major letdown! I
saw them in London years ago and was really impressed, they spun all night
mixing in tons of different styles, but all on a deep tip. Sorry for the
off-topic digression!
Cheers - MSF*
PS - that chiapet record is the shit! God I fuckin' love YoshiToshi!

what kind of turnout do you think he was expecting in the middle of a

The storm never really kicked up in Manhattan and by the evening it wasn't

Yeah I went and took pictures - despite Floyd (DigitalNoise broadcast the
event and will undoubtabley add it to their archives eventually).
Something tells me Carl wasn't too pleased w/ the low turn-out as the
Innerzone set was way too short. One of Carl's keyboards fell over and took
ages to set-up again plus the sound was shite all night! Having said that
it was worth sitting through Herbaliser's boring set to hear DJ Krust and MC
Dynamite(who had a sound system vs. the decks problem which forced Krust to
be a little ginger w/ his mixes, but slammin' non the less!)

Any 313-ers that were there care to do a review?

I was dying to go there, but all the roads in my area (Westchester
county) were flooded due to our friend Floyd and there was no way I
could get to the city :(
