[313] Technasia Sets...
OK, after following the link on Technasia's site you wind up here: http://www.ejay.co.uk/netradio/channels_single_techno.php?menue_name=techno% 20orbit# (you'll probably have to cut n' paste that, sorry) After that you can't directly access the set...it seems they have rotating sets by multiple residents including Technasia. If anyone can figure out if there are archives on this site let me know as the layout of this site is damned confusing. However a short clip of their live PA @ I Love Techno can be found on this page... http://www.technasia.com/technasia/events/live.html Cheers, m* - Original Message - From: "Mark S Flintoft" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Grammenos, Peter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "313" <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 2:25 PM Subject: Re: [313] Technasia... > I remember seeing a link to one on > http://www.technasia.com/technasia/welcome.html > > Love those guys... > > m* > - Original Message - > From: "robin pinning" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "Grammenos, Peter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Cc: <313@hyperreal.org>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 10:17 AM > Subject: RE: [313] Technasia... > > > > > > > > does anyone have a recent online technasia set i can listen to ? > > > > > > the future mix cd isn't really mixed as such, which is a shame. > > > > yeah i'd like to hear a proper dj mix too > > > > robin... > > > > > > > > > > > > > > -Original Message- > > > From: Michael D Tyrer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Sent: Friday, April 12, 2002 2:38 AM > > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org; [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Subject: Re: [313] Technasia... > > > > > > > > > 4 wots it worth - we saw these Charles Siegling/Technasia in Belgium a > few > > > weeks back at the Fuse Club and were very impressed. Re: [313] Alan Sanctuary/Detroit DJ...
Seems to me the rap for Detroit DJs not showing up for gigs lies with shady promoters/clubs either completely deceiving the unknowing punter or not following through in a proper fashion with arrangements (a la Alan Sanctuary). I am sure the inimitable Ms. Gavoor has an opinion on this as well... Just my opinion, m* Btw...I heard that Carl actually played an event in Colorado the night of the 'Spend The Night' fiasco and was never actually booked by Alan. Fw: [313] strings of life
> > No, i think he means that remix Terrence Parker and others played last > year at DEMF too. It was quite a nice remix, but i still don't know who made > it, or on what label it was released. Well as I've said before I think it's that white label that was released around this time last year. It had 2 different mixes both featuring jazzy piano riffs - it has a sticker on it saying 'Derrick May Strings Of Life 2001' (dunno if that is the one TP was playing or not). The only other semi-recent mixes I know of are the one Tarantella and Redanka did (surprisingly not too bad;) which was never released afaik, an Ashley Beedle remix http://www.dancetracks.com/audio/31992.ram and that awful Plank 15 one with the King Unique remix of Jaguar on the flip. But Dan has a point it could easily be Salsa Life - which mixes nicely with that white label btw - due to Maarten's characterization of the track as being 'Latin-like'. My .02 cents... m* - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] dj technical Q about mixers.
Hmmm, I have a PMC 270A which I like a lot, I haven't tried the PCV 275 but as far as I know it's the same thing just with digital faders. The DJM 500 has more inputs but I agree the knobs and faders don't have quite as nice a feel. They both have effects send and return if I am not mistaken. The cue level meter on the Vestax is awfully handy. Are you buying this new or used? The Vestax should be WAY cheaper if you're buying new, which is what made my mind up!;-) Go with the one you like the feel of better:) Laters, m* - Original Message - From: "Yair Etziony" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, March 25, 2002 1:55 PM Subject: [313] dj technical Q about mixers. > hey i have the option to choose between 2 mixers (this is for home use). > 1.pioneer djm500 - i like this one but he feels kinda softie to me. > 2.vestax pcv 270 - this one is more riggid but i don`t know. > i would like to hear you views about it:) > > kind regards > Yair. > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] PAs / Kitten and The Hacker / Joel Mull
PL>>And I just had a thought that perhaps this is another reason why electro-pop is blowing up- because they always have singers (and often good-looking women for maximum audience response from predominantly-male music-geek community - adult, miss kitten, peaches, chix on speed :) I think you have a point there Peter... I went to see Kitten and The Hacker here in NYC at Fun not too long ago and I have to say that while technically it was the most boring PA I think I have ever seen the crowd really seemed to get off on it. I would definitely say having Kitten up there was a factor in the crowd reaction. I enjoyed it too as I am a big fan of both Kitten + The Hacker, but I mean it lasted maybe 15 or 20 minutes, Hacker seemed to have everything stored in something the crowd couldn't even see (they were up on a tall platform kinda thing), and I swear after the song started and he had tweaked one or two knobs the man basically just stood there. Gotta say Ulysses' electro>DEEP House>Techno and back again set made the night...that and hearing Frank Sinatra performed live;-) I have always enjoyed PAs in intimate spaces more than those in bigger venues... The best PA I saw last year was Joel Mull at Guernica. I was sitting (with fellow 313ers Pete Grammenos and Alex Lugo) about 2 feet from Joel for the first 15 minutes of his set and it was really cool to watch him punch patterns into the MPC virtually non-stop. I would have loved to watch him through his entire set but I had to get up and get down along with the rest of the crowd. Yeah that's right people DANCING during a PA!!;-) BTW...this was in the early morning hours of September the Eleventh 2001. To go from the high of that night to the low of later that morning was quite a thing Peace, m* - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] Alcohol-free / Hawtin review...
> it's funny isn't it but i suspect a booze-less club over here would > immediately arouse the suspicions of the authorities... > > a cultural difference i guess Ohh but they do... one of the drawbacks of going to DT's Friday night party, and there are quite few these days unfortunately, is that there are always a few undercover cops cruising around trying to spot dealers. Not to mention the paranoid bouncers who routinely throw innocent people out because they were thought to be doing some sort of drug. Any club with no booze is automatically suspected of heavy drug 'infiltration'and those suspicions are generally spot on, for better or worse. Honestly I'd rather be in a club where people (not candi-ravers;) are on e than a club rammed with drunks. I went to the Tronic party at Baktun tonight and danced to Richie Hawtin, Magda, and Miss Honey Dijon until 4AM...only problem was the number of idiots from parts unknown who got pissed, sweaty, jumped around at what they perceived to be an appropriate moment, SLAMMED into unsuspecting punters constantly AND stepped on people's feet whilst they were dancing. I just got finished cleaning my Nikes and am decidedly in an anti-booze mood just now;-) I am a drinker, but being totally inconsiderate of one's fellow revelers is never cool imho. Yeah it's amazing how readily the AOL using hordes devour the crap served up to 'em just because MTV or fuckin' Access Hollywood tells 'em too. Has anyone else noticed the overabundance of covers making supposedly 'innovative' new artists famous (see Alicia Keys, Orgy, Alien Ant Farm etc...). Where the Hell is the originality??? Seems to me people are just too lazy to expend the effort and seek out something truly different and interesting... Whatever happened to thinking for one's self, hmmm?? I completely agree George... I don't see why most DJs these days feel the need to pigeonhole themselves into one particular genre...god forbid they should drop a track that deviates even slightly from their chosen sub-sub-genre. [313] (313) Fade In Techno / re-edits
Exactly my point Tristan... As anyone who knows me knows I am long-time fan and friend of one D. Tenaglia. Though I am disappointed with the progressive shite he's been playing of late - thankfully here in NYC @ Vinyl he doesn't actually play as much of that as I'm told he does abroad. Danny has been doing subtle re-edits, with Pro-Tools, of all manner of tracks, burning them on CD-R and using them in his sets for like 4 years now. I love it when I hear something out on the dancefloor that I love and it's just a bit different (and a lot of times even better)! At this point I would say he spins about 50% CDs and most of them are tailored by him, for him, as well. A couple of DT's edits that stand out in my mind are a nice one of Microworld's Signals, and a version of the original mix of Plastic Dreams that ditches all the cheesy piano crap at the end and stretches the 'good' part out quite a bit. It's a great way to mark yourself out from the pack IMHO - even if the only ones picking up on it are the few of us really know the music. Once I actually get my Sony VAIO set up right I plan on burning some edits of my own. I quite fancy extended versions of some of my favorite Mills tracks. With all the bickering over this thread I feel I oughta reiterate my feeling that I look on mixing tracks with a fade-in as a challenge. Yeah it's a pain in the ass to get it right, but when you do manage it, it feels (and sounds) pretty damn nice!=) The trick I use if the monitors are too damn loud, and others use as well I am sure, is matching BPMs in the middle of the track and then pumping the gain and/or the levels up to cue the beginning of the track up, then turning 'em down to where they oughta be as you bring the track in. Having said that, on those nights I am not really on it I would appreciate having a more 'friendly' version available;) Dave Clark wrote: >>Try going to some of those glitchy German (Villalobos, Isolee) or West Coast (Twerk, Safety Scissors) guys and mixing those, when you come back to techno things suddenly seem a -lot- easier. I have to agree with that completely Dave...I would add Brinkman to that list as well;-) If you're making an un-mixed compilation for yourself, which I do from time to time as it's nice to hear the whole track, the fade-in tracks are actually preferable to those that bang in from the start. Sorry if this post isn't terribly coherent but I am a little drunk and tired... Cheers, m* NP - http://www.klubradio.de/rams/robhood.ram (So nice!) > Wow, that's a really good idea! [313] (313) black water with vocals?
Wibo>>> Last weekend I heard Claussell play the vocal mix. It blew me away. Exactly, at the right time in the right place it is that sort of a track for me. Dunno what to tell you Ken... I like the vocal, the full one on the concept release that is. I make no apologies for liking it either. I understand the track is getting played a lot on your side of the pond and I would imagine hearing it all the time would become quite tiresome. Personally I would like a dub version of the vocal as the original is a just too much if I am not in the mood for it. I'm not saying it's my favorite Octave One track though, not by a long shot. I love the Burden's productions as a general rule and choosing a favorite would be hard, it's just something that moves me. Hey Tom, If you recall I put it in my top 10 for 2001...can't say as I know anything about the artist or label though... TC> Their website (http://www.surveillancerecordings.com/) looks great but > there's no actual content... I found http://www.surveillance.net doing a quick search but that is another label altogether...though also from Detroit, and also techno. Seems strange that there are two Techno labels in the same city with the same name! Lemme know if you find out anything! It would be nice if someone could shed some light on the subject. Ohhh and for something in a similar vein you should check out AJ Hunter's Pressure Point EP on Parotic Music, track it down and you'll find it's well worth the effort... It's probably the most interesting record I bought all of last year, seriously deep Techno/House with a Chicago feel and intriguing programming - the record has such a beautifully textured sound to it (if that makes any sense;-) Cheers, m* - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] - Adult Only # 12 and 313?
Well once again I can't sleep, and as I often do when that happens I started playing some records. The last record I pulled out was... Vinyl Line West Station Adult Only AO 12 (though it says AO11 in the run-out) I usually play the B side which is a nice smooth house cut co-produced by C. Carrier and one of my favorite house producers Jef K called Stamper Square... Anyways long story short, this morning I decided to play the A side and in the first breakdown of the first track there is a computer sounding female vocal that states 'Enter Area Code 313' before the track kicks back in... It's kind of strange as the label art is what appears to be Osaka Japan's subway system, while the info side has a few generic skyscrapers on it. So I am wondering, what this little 313 snipet is doing on a record with no obvious 313 ties (at least to my over-tired brain;)? The track titles are A1 West Station, A2 Ladbroke Groove and B1 Stamper Square...any Detroit signifigance to those?? Is Osaka's area code 313 too??;-) Not that I actually expect any answers, I just thought I'd share... Men From The NileWatch Them ComeUndaground Music Therapy UTR-001 written by Roy Davis & Peven Everett, lead vocals by Peven Everett. Not sure of the original release date...it was awhile ago though. Personally I like the original and DJ Pierre mixes best. The label is run/owned by Ron Trent and Odell Braziel Jr, thus the prescription connection. RELEASE DATE: 7/3/2000 PR-5020 "I desire for people to be happy by experiencing the surreal rooms of understanding music and sound" - Ron Trent In 1993 Prescription Records started in the minds of Ron Trent and Chez Damier a.k.a. Anthony Pearson between the cities of Chicago, Detroit, and New York City. These guys laid the groundwork of traveling, recording, and divisions in each city before actually creating the infra-structure of what is now known as Prescription Records. In 1997 Prescription Records went on hiatus and officially returned in 1998 under Ron Trent's direction. Prescription Records is pressed and distributed through King Street Sounds . The sound of Prescription Records is continously evolving and encompasses electronic fusion of organic materials. Organic being defined as natural elements of life and sound. Prescription Records is a musical platform that caters to the needs of many through various forms of music, especially in the capacity of a musical healing. Ron Trent's vision for Prescription Records is for the label to develop into an "urban world music" label inclusive of "sounds from the city". Ron Trent was originally born in Massachussetts and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He began DJing in 1982 at the young age of nine years old. It was in 1987 when Ron Trent began his career as a professionial DJ. Today, Ron Trent is known as an international DJ, Producer and founder of Prescription Records. Ron Trent has found inspiration through various artists and producers such as Lonnie Liston Smith, Pat Methany, Azymuth, Imagination, Leon Ware, and Fela just to name a few. Ron Trent's interest in DJing originated in his appreciation of DJing as an art form. Ron later began to admire "the euphoria that was created in the art of DJing." Ron Trent presently has produced and remixed a catalog of approx. 35-45 singles and has toured to various countries across the world. When asked if he had any advice or something to share with other up-coming in the industry he responded, "Follow that which is yours." Continously striving for new platues upon each release of Prescription Records, Ron Trent has also proven to be successful through his skills of DJing and producing. You can look forward to hearing much more about Ron Trent in the time to come through his imprint known as Prescription Records, his DJing, and his production. Made In Detroit Ford Focus / Pu-Bahs...Revolution.
Those interested in seeing the Made In Detroit Ford Focus concept car (previously mentioned by Mr. Deason) should check out http://www.autoweek.com it's on their homepage (the silver panel-van looking thing at the top of the page). As far as the use of No UFOs for that commercial I say good for Juan if he can make a few bucks on the deal...good for me cause it's one less commercial I'll have to fast-forward through;) At least Juan is lending his sound to a quality product - despite what the eloquent Dr Styles would have you believe the Focus is a quality bit of kit (I hope he was joking about Pontiac though, those cars really do suck;) Your resident auto-geek, Mark* PS - Just thought I'd point out that the free CD that comes with this month's Revolution Magazine has The Sandwiches video on it. Dee-lite/Dimitris...
KJJ >Tis is the dutch Dimitri. Dimitri from Amsterdam he bills himself as I believe...I heard him spin at that beach party at WMC '99 and was not impressed. Dimitri From Paris was much more impressive when I saw him spin at one of the Respect is Burning parties at Twilo. Lots of French house with some NYC favorites... Peace, Mark* PS - Towa Tei and Lady Miss Kier were definately the best thing about Dee-lite...Kier used to come out to Disco 2000 at Limelight, when I worked there long ago, and dance with the kids...how cool is that? (313) - The Lights, The Heat....The Jaguar....
"The lights, the heat, the strobes, the sweatLet's all live the fantasylet's all BE the fantasy." The thread on Stacey Pullen and his Black Flag001 release touched on the origin of this sample, but I don't recall it being resolved. I was listening to Kenny Hawkes' (Paper Recordings/UK) set from WMC 2000 on http://www.raveworld.net today and at around 29 minutes in he brings in Knights of The Jaguar (pitched down of course;) w/ the above mentioned vocal on top of it. BTW Mr Bucknell and Mr. Sicko oughta dig Kenny's set, I heard a few of those 808 cowbells y'all dig so much in there somewhere:) So now I'm all curiousjust how many tracks contain this sample?? Where is it taken from?? I know I have one of the tracks, from like 95, but for the life of me I can't remember which one, and worse yet I can't find the damn thing!! Re: (313) Jaguar: The Detroit Connection.
*Sorry to continue this thread...but n8 is obviously quite worked up. What say we not beat anyone down? It was not my intention to advocate purchasing the offending record as a means of clearing it from store shelves. It has however been done. That the record in question was purchased in bulk, by a single shopper at one NY store, is a fact. For whatever reason the record seems not to have been restocked - this is a good thing IMHO. Am I allowed to be pleased by Jaguar's absence from my line of sight while shopping? I think so. Am I happy that the record is not on the shelves where naive youngsters might get their hands on it?:) Yup. Just be grateful I've not mentioned who is rumored to have done the purchasing. I refuse to pass along ridiculous speculation. The injustice of the UR v sony/bmg drama pisses me off as much as anyone, if not more. Re: (313) The instant globalisation of music?
Another thought... Funkmaster Flex, Red Alert et al receive records months before anyone else, so naturally there will be a lag before they hit stores in NYC let alone Holland:) Also the majors probably only like to concentrate their marketing and PR on releaseing on one continent at a time - much like movie studios. We @ IN-SITE love Mr. Pullen and found his recent NYC shows (Twilo and The Cooler) to be faultlessly deep. Mike Bindra-Twilo's manager-was "blown-away", and for those of you who know Mike that is saying a lot! As far as the Jaxx being cheese, well we're all entitled to our opinions. I happen think the Jaxx's production work has always been brilliant (although the current stuff is over played and over hyped) but they are not the DJ's they once were (anyone who saw them spin @ their London club a few years ago will know what I'm talking about). I recently had the misfortune to see them play @ Twilo - talk about crap they spun for maybe 45 min.s to an hour and only played one track that was not their own - major letdown! I saw them in London years ago and was really impressed, they spun all night mixing in tons of different styles, but all on a deep tip. Sorry for the off-topic digression! Re: (313) Innerzone Orchestra live in NYC
Yeah I went and took pictures - despite Floyd (DigitalNoise broadcast the event and will undoubtabley add it to their archives eventually). Something tells me Carl wasn't too pleased w/ the low turn-out as the Innerzone set was way too short. One of Carl's keyboards fell over and took ages to set-up again plus the sound was shite all night! Having said that it was worth sitting through Herbaliser's boring set to hear DJ Krust and MC Dynamite(who had a sound system vs. the decks problem which forced Krust to be a little ginger w/ his mixes, but slammin' non the less!)
