Re:[313] Idea, Solution to Question? blablabla...
How come certain trends on 313 are so easy to follow while others are just ignored, because you have 15-20 trendy people on this list that participate in discussion on a regular bases, these people tend to favor certain 313 artist more then they do others. (this comment is not directed at anyone in particular) why I ask this is because I know that there are more people on this list that get packages from Submerge or stumbled on certain pre-released material but it is hardly ever discussed. I really don't see how the lack of discussion of promo material hurts the list. Pre released material eventually gets released to the public but it doesn't get discussed on the 313-list because its not a 'Shake' record or a 'KDJ' record, or a Limited Edition 'Jeff Mills' record. Lets take Claude Young for example, when's the last time you've seen his name mentioned on on this list? He's still releasing records on a regular basis last time I checked. I though you people would never get around to discussing the new Rob Hood album. I think this just speaks volumes for the quality of this list, and job the list administrator is doing maintaining it. Anyone got any deep philosophical theories they want to put forth? Wait! I got an idea!!! How bout we organize a Global Underground Network that will eventually take over the United Nations and overthrow the mainstream music media? stephen.
Re:[313] Idea, Solution to Question? blablabla...
Well, how is the new Claude Young record, since you bring it up? I know I really enjoy the Pattern buffer record he put out recently on DJAX... In general, I would say just because certain artists get discussed more often doesn't mean others aren't appreciated as well. Some people just post more and so it's natural that the artists they are really enthusiastic about will be discussed more! --dave aka cyborg k Original Message Follows From: stephen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re:[313] Idea, Solution to Question? blablabla... Not sure what you mean exactly, but it sounds interesting. Tell me (us) more. Expand on the idea a little. O.k. i too think you're on to something Javier. it depends what exactly you are talking about, a webpage, publication, or just an underground network of helping eachother out with hook ups? theres about 20-40 regular vocals on this list, and about 500 ( i believe) subscribers total. Re: [313] Idea, Solution to Question?
well, here's a simple suggestion (and I'm sure you had thought of this as well). I have been in several shops recently who don't know about new stuff coming out, and I can think of many others who wouldn't turn down another source on info, particularly if it came in one easy weekly package Since the Submerge mailings are so rare as to be almost useless, hardwax doesn't have good reviews and the hyperreal network already has the facility set up to send out mailings. Why not put together a weekly mailing (a zine of sorts) which could be mailied out to anyone interested...shops, other zines, and mere fans... from a more international standpoint we'd all get early info, and I'm sure you could count on most of the people from various lists to subscribe for a start... in the interests of expediency it should probably be left to a few people in each country to review the relevant records, who could be recruited through 313 (I nominate Tom Magic-feet for the UK, if he'd do it, maybe double up on the Overload reviews or something)... I'm sure with a small link on alt.techno, submerge, or hardwax the subscriptions would soon pile up and the labels would find it especially worthwhile giving promos (since it's an easy way of hitting the precise target audience) I'm sure it's already being done somewhere, but I reckon there's enough knowledge and eloquence on this list to make it worthwhile... I offer my services, in any capacity... Seth The Electric Press Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: [313] Idea, Solution to Question?
I think a 313 site would be better. There're a lot of ppl on this list from all over the world. Underground related stuff is happening in everyone's vicinity. Ppl post a lot of localised info on this list but, a lot of the time, ppl don't read it and just delete it. If major topics were put onto the site (as well as nights and events from all over the world), ppl could view it whenever, it would allow for a more summarised version of this list (more preferable than reading through 30 large posts to get to the point). It'd also reach a wider audience so this could help for getting ppl through the door for newer nights starting up... Everyone is already contributing... We're the only resource for information needed, we just need someone to find a way to present it on the site... l8r, Nick (Dj Pacific:) --- electric seth [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: well, here's a simple suggestion (and I'm sure you had thought of this as well). I can also easily write a login and upload facility for people who want to add their own webpages. We can have an index of all the sites linked, and a search facility and whatnot, no problem... Our voice must be heard all over the world. Maybe an idea to start from? Are we trying to take over the world, or just detroit techno? The world is not enough! ;-) Let's take this on an intergalactic level, just to be an a good foot with those alien dudes when they finally drop by. :) No serious, let's make this a global thing, but of course the focus on Detroit must be there as well. Re: [313] Idea, Solution to Question?
I'd be more than willing to put some of my time forth for something like this, as long as the interest stays, and people can get something out of it. again my addys are: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] I'm in chicago (sort of in foriegn territory for detroit techno, as DEEP house seems to be the constant mood of the city), but more than happy to offer not only my time, but my as unbiased as possible opinions. Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 09:45:20 GMT well, here's a simple suggestion (and I'm sure you had thought of this as well). From: Nick Walsh [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [313] Idea, Solution to Question? ooooo, what's up with you? [...] Whatever. I was making the point (however badly) that this list could benefit from some more news, reviews, information, whatever. This thread kicked off with a request for just this, sparking off conversations that it was a good idea but that it should go on the web. Yep, a good idea but IMHO it would be good to see the (on-topic and 313 relevant) information on this list also. || [CiM] || [EMAIL PROTECTED] || [EMAIL PROTECTED] Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: RE: [313] Idea, Solution to Question?
I think that would be great to do a 313-web site and mag. I'm a graphic designer and I would not only love to contribute to the look of both, but also do some interviewing and writing. Roberto [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 07/06/00 05:35 AM Yeah, that was exactly the same thing I was thinking after the thread on journalists and how difficult it is to manage all of this and all the problems involved. A couple of weeks ago there was an idea of setting up a 313-website, but it kinda died out. What about picking up this idea again? And maybe expanding it to a magazine in print... Ok, these are pretty wild ideas and I don't know all that much about making webpages and all that, but I'm willing to contribute interviews, reviews and info on a regular basis. With all the talent hiding on this list it must be possible to make something extraordinary of it. Who wants to expand upon these ideas? John P.S. O.k. I see there are allot of people on this list that are pushing a good thing, lets try to do something,,Why don't we set up a coalition of some sort, lets say are own Underground Monopoly to counteract the majors, how about we put our heads together and combine as a whole lets developed some sort of massive Underground Network and use our own resources to publicize our own reviews and what not. Lets give them a run for their money..any ideas, allot of us host our own sites, lets use whatever tools we have available to expand this baby, lets take 313 and Hyperreal to the next level, it's all been started lets build on what we have. Only serious headz needed, please no flakes. j.d. http://www.undergroundcommittee.com 504.837.4783 tel 504.553.5628 tel 504.553.5627 fax Keepin' it real, keepin' it UNDERGROUND..Underground Committee.com Home of Detroit Influence Reflections - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: RE: [313] Idea, Solution to Question?
I'd like to volunteer my web experience and time; living in metro Detroit, work as an art director by day, and could be web coordinator for submissions. I can look into securing an address... We'd need to decide a format for submissions and stuff. Perhaps develop a 313 web team here in Detroit to monitor and help maintain the site. Roberto [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 07/06/00 09:19 AM Yep, totally agree. We need a 'webmummy' who wants to take care of this business, someone to coordinate all of this. Who wants to sacrifies his/her last minute of spare time? I suggest I'd be somebody from Detroit... Can we already get some response here from people who want to contribute to such a site? Count me in! RE: [313] Idea,Solution to Question
State side you've got Minneapolis/St. Paul and the rest of MN. covered. I already have access to many record labels/artists and have been doing this for about three years (one online). Photos, interviews, reviews, events, art events (non-music), etc. However, I think it should be all on one collective site, not a webring.
