It is nice. I didn’t send out the friend requests. All those people found
me. Many of them studied at Oxford University. I don’t know what that’s
about, although I am published through Oxford University Press. About
Detroit techno.

R U trying 2 say it’s very techno of me that I have all those friends?

I’m not really inviting you, Mario, 2 “connect.” I don’t hang out with ppl
that is into rape culture. It’s to anyone on this list who wants to read my
shit. How many ppl R on this list? More than a thousand? Maybe. That’s a
lot of ppl that may be into what I write.

that's an amazing, even interstellar increase in fb 'friends' you have,
recently, as far as I know... Can one buy friends, on a way to 'global fame'?

Anyway: why should I connect/follow up so closely on someone who's blocked me

open for wise, healthy contacts that feel safe and warm enough, and are

the moment you blocked me, was after I confronted you with having crossed a
line with you openly suggesting we'd be supporting rape culture here. This, to
me, is an example of an unhealthy proposition.

You blocked me, instead of getting into a worthy, adultered discussion, to
clear out on things. I wrote you back, later on, to try and clarify I'm not
into rape culture, in any slightest sense. Not any atom in my body would think
about raping anyone.
Still, this did not change your attitude.

Why explicitly supposing we'd support rape culture?

Your public Twitter rants of late (all dated June 25th for some reason) state
this 313 list is much too full of racists and sexists.

That's another form of projecting - beyond boundaries, again.

Being able to be compassionate still requires some form of equivalency in
communication, in leaving equal space for anyone involved. It requires being
able to be vulnerable, too, and showing this, as to be honest if and where
sensitive spots are touched. It requires everyone involved to want to bridge
eventual differences in any relevant sense, with no structural haughtiness -nor
fixed minority complex- from anyone's side, as this would complicate a healthy
exchange. It requires well-conscious and self-conscious communication between
people.

Kent proposed that, indeed.
Later on, you wrote: Take me off the list.

Being able to be compassionate still requires some form of equivalency in
communication, in leaving equal space for anyone involved. It requires being
able to be vulnerable, too, and showing this, as to be honest if and where
sensitive spots are touched. It requires everyone involved to want to bridge
eventual differences in any relevant sense, with no structural haughtiness -nor
fixed minority complex- from anyone's side, as this would complicate a healthy
exchange. It requires well-conscious and self-conscious communication between
people.

My writing aimed at anyone interested and open to it, regardless of gender.

I expect people to be compassionate, but you shouldn’t have expectations.

Re: What this list is and isn't about

2020-06-30 Thread U Design
I can speak from personal experience that the Detroit police have actually
helped the team I worked with to find a venue, pull a liquor license, and
get the proper insurance so we could have an all night party Movement
weekend of 2003... But I also know people who have been brutalized by
police because they were driving in the wrong neighborhood, ie driving in a
white city while black.

I know that Black Lives Matter is a very important movement because the
systemic racism in this country is ridiculously disgusting and anyone who
denies the fact that this movement is necessary, well, I imagine they've
never looked into appropriation of black culture and black music. I imagine
they've never asked the Detroit musicians they work with about the fears
they have going north of 8 mile. I imagine they don't dig deep into
conversations about any of this with the black musicians they know, and I
imagine if they did broach the subject, they aren't really asking to learn,
they are just asking to appease or make themselves look "woke".

I know I'm white and I've used my white privilege more than a few times to
snap back at people who were being racist. I've also used my skills in
understanding how social networks work and worked on a number of teams
where we created event programs to bridge racial and socioeconomic divides,
creating a space where blacks and whites felt safe to come together. Its
not easy, but its definitely necessary.

I don't enjoy seeing these threads where people who love Detroit Techno are
now comparing BLM to the KKK... or where someone who has studied in-depth
about Detroit Techno and actually put out published writings about the
music is being targeted because she's had some snarky responses to threads
that I personally would've like to smack sense into the people writing them
but since I tend to not engage with those posts, I guess I've "lucked out"
and not been targeted in the same way.

I fear that this list is about to succumb to the same political divide that
is currently plaguing our country. I would recommend the moderator maybe
curate some topics to try and start/lead the conversations back toward
Detroit Techno. There are some truly incredible stories in the history of
Detroit Techno...

Has anyone talked about the time that a vanful of Detroit's originators
loaded into a cargo van to go to NYC for the music conference? I think 17
people crammed into that van. Mike Banks was driving, Jeff Mills was in the
passenger seat, the back was crammed with people. So full that Billy Love
had to ride in the door well...

Now those kinds of stories are what I'm always on the hunt for.

 Karen’s actions here. Apparently not?

If so you’d see that my comment was spot on.

Black Lives Matter.

How is this about police? Why you gotta make this about politics?
Everything is about politics with you. When you defund the police, you get
a little bit of chaos, that's to be expected. But I feel like we already
were havin chaos, so it's not even different.

Since when is club culture about lovin the police??? The cops shut down the
parties. The best raves are illegal. A lot of electronic dance music
scholars have written so much about legal issues related to rave and dance
club culture. It's almost boring. Does anyone read anymore? Books?
Articles? Well researched stuff? No? Nothin?

I think it would be good for all to check and read
https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounders/black-hebrew-israelites. It says
not all of its (sub)groups are racist/anti-white/antisemitic. Wikipedia refers
to a source numbering them up to 144.

Just for the fact-based nuance.

That group is unquestionably and unapologetically racist. Love how you try to

Nice try. Why don’t you go break a few windows with your buddies since that’s

Sorry guys, just taking advantage of the Wild West here while it lasts.

3. I have the job of list administrator (not moderator) because no one else
wanted it.

Maybe it’s time you passed the baton over to someone else. It’s clear that this
list sometimes needs a small amount of moderation. You’re obviously not the
person to do this as you have repeatedly done nothing in the past and this list
has lost valuable contributors because of your lack of action.

There should be more than one moderator so it’s not just one person opinion
that shapes this list.

1. "With all due respect" is a euphemism for "You supreme bell-end" "No
offense" means "I'm going to be offensive."
2. I have made 3 albums and several EPs and I generally don't bring them up
here. While I count Detroit music as a huge influence, my music has
diverged from anything that could be called techno, so I've made myself
off-topic.
3. I have the job of list administrator (not moderator) because no one else
wanted it. I do the best I can and if you don't like it, unsubscribe. I
posted instructions on how to do so the other day in the spirit of "Let me
google that for you."
4. Do you mean "Langer" as in slang for penis? That comment seems out of
order on several levels.
