Is anyone of you able to use find as we can do it in word doc; control plus f? I mean can we reach the required target and start readig, copying or editing the stuff in pdf? Pl guide On 6/14/12, Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com wrote: Folks, It is deeply regretted that on the one hand the copyright bills has given us an opportunity to access an abundance of print material which hither to cannot be accessed by the print disabled people, while on the other hand we're unable to access our own personal documents, be they the medical reports, bank statements or any official bills because most of the corporate sectors these days are producing the PDF documents in such a way which cannot be read out by any screen reader. For quite some time, the Lal Pathology Laboratory, which is supposed to be the best accredited lab all over India has been producing the personal medical reports which are not accessible through any screen reader. As soon as you open them, you screen reader will give you a message the Author set this documents in a way which prevents access, and the JAWS will say protection failure., needless to mention that the contents are very much visible on the screen for a sighted people and not accessible by the screen readers. If anybody has any solution to this, can share, except indeed suggesting to convert the same with the help of any OCR programme, which is of course is the last option. I think we, as an organization, or any registered organisation can approach to them and launch the protest on behalf of the entire VI community because this is also a violation to our right to print accessibility. Harish Kapoor, iPhone comes with in-built screen reader called VoiceOver. You do not require a third party screen reader. @All, I don't mean to do moderator's job; but a healthy advice especially for new members. It would be great, if you could do a simple web search before writing to the list. In fact, you would also get results from list archives, if the question is already discussed. This will also improve the quality of list content. No offense please! Re: [AI] Beware of Sathyameva Jayate
Hello dear friend, you had pasted a an article which is good to read. Even my intention is not to hurt anybody sentiments. I think so you are having some misconceptions let me try to rectify. I am not sure that I can clear your doubts to clear doubts please visit www.irf.com or listen to Dr. Zakir Naik's talks in youtube on any topic you select. 1. As concern to donations even muslims friends do not know where and how to give charity. A person who earn his monthly salary in any form of intrest is not permisable to give charity. That means he should earn his income in proper way i.e he should not work in banks and related with banks like money should not earn by money. As concern to building of masjid and madrasa how can we will build nation? In madrasa they teach religious asspects yes it is true. It is compulsory to every muslim to give 2.5% of profit from his annual income which excedes of more than 750 grams of gold or its equal.amount of silver with him. If all muslims come farward to give charity (zakath) every year. Then we can try to stop poverty. The zakath should distributed in the poor. Does this build the nation. Before you go through it, let me clarify that I have equal respect for all religions, and equal affection for my friends belonging to various religions and casts. But I am pasting this mail since I feel that exploitation of human emotions is not permissible, or even acceptable by any religion or law. Sorry if the moderators feel that this mail is off topic, but even then I believe it is absolutely necessary to bring this bitter fact to the knowledge of all sincere and right thinking people. So, here goes the mail!!! Subject: Beware of Sathyameva Jayate The truth of Satyamev Jayate: Beware! The truth of Satyamev Jayate: Since last few days we have seen viral effect across the nation for a television show hosted by Bollywood Star Amir Khan named Satyamev Jayate and these days ... Ive come across a large number of people discussing and praising the show and also some of them were considering making donations and sending SMSs to the show in public interest, my purpose for writing this post is to let those people know that how and where their donations and revenue generated by SMSs will be used. The foundation where your donations and income via SMSs will go is calledHumanity Trust and this is the website of this trust http://www.facebook.com/l/bAQE0HNX2/www.humanitytrust.com/ this website says that objective of their foundation is :- Masjid Construction assistance. (Bore/construction helps) :- Placement assistance for Islamic youngsters (notifications about jobs across various geographies) {do visit this website and check yourself} Now look at the Irony here, people from all over the country belonging to different religions and communities are sending SMSs and making donations, and you can see clearly that money is spent on people of just one particular community and religion. Now isn't it unfair that first you are attracting the people from different religion on emotional grounds, and when they fall prey to it and gives donation, you are using that money for communal purpose without even informing the people where their money is going to be used, I just wanted to know how does building mosques and madrasas helps our nation? And if it doesn't then why people of this country are being fooled like this and no one is raising questions? are only Muslims unemployed in this country ? if not then why this step-motherly treatment with people of different religion and community? Hi Mohit, I will answer in just 1 line. Leave this concept of driver or so called sighted escort. If you are in too much need Like going to any unfamiliar place then try public transport. regards On 6/16/12, Mohit Shah Shah mohit.shah...@gmail.com wrote: Hi all, First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you a very happy half year. While this method works perfectly, I've often encountered one flaw in the plan, so to speak. As soon as my class gets over, my escort comes and takes me to our car for going home. Similarly, when we go out somewhere, my driver comes to pick me up as soon as I come out with my friends from that place. So, because of this what happens is that my friends get to chat and have fun even after the class, while I miss all the fun because my escort picks me up immediately after the work that we went for is over. One possible solution could be to ask my friends to drop me to my car, but they also drop me immediately after we're done and continue talking away and making merry afterwards. So, how can I ask my friends to not drop me immediately to my car considering that I don't have a really concrete reason for hanging on in the first place? What should I ask my escort to do in these cases? This is often a source of a little bit of annoyance for me and leaves, you know, a sour taste, so to speak as I don't properly get to say goodbye to my friends after having had such a great time. Plus, it might even make them feel that I'm a nerd and don't wish to socialize. Ajay, While I'm sure you've given that suggestion with the best possible intentions, I fail to comprehend how that would solve the aforementioned problem. Many of my sighted friends also travel on their own 2/4 wheelers and some of them also have a driver. So, it's not like I'm using a driver because I'm visually impaired. hi Mohit, the idea behind this suggestion is that you should not have any third person in your group. Its true that some sighted pears also use driver but it is also tru that they can easily manage alone. But in case of a V I person the driver is rather a body guard. Parents give them too much instructions to safeguard their child. I thing keeping a drriver is the biggest thret to our social life try learning mobility techneecs so that you can make your family beleive that you are safe without any asisntence. Re: [AI] A question, which is not really a question
Tell your driver that you will call him when you are ready. Then get used to the slight problem of waiting for a few minutes after your friends have left. This is really not a problem. If you are stepping out of a theatre or some unknown place when your friends are ready to go, just ask them where exactly are you standing. This will help the driver locate you. Plese understand that your driver is appointed to assist you and not to dictate the situation. Ajay is right -learn to use public transport, learn mobility skills, don't get scared of using strangers as temporary escorts and for god sake don't be rude to people who are answering your question even if you think in your mind that they have not applied their mind while answering your question. Re: [AI] Re (Mohit Ajay) Using Driver as an escort, few concerns in socialization.
Continuing my reply after having read the recent digest in which Ajay and Kanchan mam has responded: Mohit, what Ajay is saying is not thoughtless argument. You should certainly know mobility skills, at least that prepares you for emmergency situations. Whether or not and to which extent you want to use those skills, is purely your choice, and I enforce no opinion on that. Answering your question how that can solve problems, then remember once you are mobile, you will need no escort, and can move freely. And from what I understand, its just that hesitation and comfort level of your friends which needs to be achieved. Even I am learning mobility, and lets see till what extent I use it in my future. Keeping driver or an assistant, is purely one's own choice. Are we so dull that for moving from one chair to another we need driver or an escort? (before reacting, let me tell you that I have seen those people as well, and I am sure you or I am not one of them). You certainly need not keep your driver at all times with you. Because there can be no doubt that friends or any particular group would not want a third person to be with them just because you need assistance. Whenever you need to move to a unknown place or have to go for loo etc, call up your escort or feel free to ask your friends. There is absolutely no problem in that. Come back with your replies in a constructive manner. On 6/17/12, Amar Jain amarjain2...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Ajay And Mohit, I would prefer taking a different stand all together. However at the same time, I have had no problems in staying back with my friends and going for movie lunch etc. What I advise to Mohit is that firstly try and establish that relation with your friends. I guess that friendlyness is missing. Talk with your friends apart from your studies, initiate plans for movies or outing, remember birthdays and ensure that when your other group is planning for any of your friend's birthday, you become the part of it, and last but not least, if you know that some plan is going on for some outing, (this you can figure out by asking questions), then tell them that why not lets all go together? Basically talk and take initiative. My observation may be wrong, but is it that your friends still have that hesitation or extra curtesy towards visually impaired in mind while talking to you? A lot depends on your nature, your own way of communicating things, etc. And as far as driver or other escort coordination is concerned, then you need not keep full day driver with you on job, or even if you have one, you can safely say that there is some change in my program, and I would like to leave late than what was planned earlier. Prepare your family for that. Before concluding, believe me, no question is stupid. If other person takes it as a stupid question, then may be he is not matured enough to understand your question, but nothing is stupid. All It is regretable, despite so many mails to the effect, members still post such off-topic mails. Action will certainly be taken on this. No more traffic on this thread please. Harish Kotian Moderator. - Original Message - From: Dr. Yogesh Sharma yogesh.sharma...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in; blindc...@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, June 16, 2012 11:22 AM Subject: [AI] Beware of Sathyameva Jayate Dear friends, Here I am pasting an eye opening mail from a very dear friend of mine. [AI] Self Appraisal Report and Other Issues
Hello Friends Have a nice day to all of you. Once again, I would like to divert your kind attention towards the Self Appraisal Report used in the banking sector for the internal promotion of their employee in various cadre. This issue is here on 2nd time but this is more sensitive, right forum to raised the issue and need to be discuss here As all of you know, our government has released new guidelines about the Self Appraisal Report for all cadres to get promotion. According the new guidelines, one has to gain 60% marks in the first year and 75% in 2 consecutive years, which is really hard, especially for a visually impaired employee. As we all know, we have given a reservation in jobs only because without the vision, we are not able to perform like a normal employee so in my opinion, we should have given some relaxation in marks or there should be some other criteria to be adopted for the internal promotion. on the other hand, ST/SC/OBC candidates has given a reservation in internal promotion, they also get pre-promotion training before any promotion exam but there's no such reservation policy/Pre-Promotion training for the disabled in promotion process. This is really an embarrassing situation for the disabled, especially for the visually impaired persons to get promotion because nobody will give them 75% marks only on sympathetic ground because they can't perform like a normal person in respect of blindness. This is equally true that no employee union is with us, so we have to fight the battle alone only. Friends, this is really alarming situation now! we have to come forward to resolve the issue soon, otherwise, most of us will not be able to get promotion even many of us are performing much better than anyone in your field. I would like to appeal to all of you here that we should have also work to form an All India bank employee union for disabled persons to raise their issues with the management effectively I need your valuable suggestion over the issue so that we can take an appropriate move on this serious issue, which is equally important for all of us.
