[AFMUG] PMP450i lack of gigabit

2015-10-28 Thread Josh Luthman
I have a PacketFlux SyncInjector Gigabit that goes to the 450i. It's got a
48v power supply. There is no syncpipe, nor would anything work in the
lab. The test PC has two Intel gigabit NICs.

My issue is that I can only get a 100 Mbit here.

I have it set to generate sync right now and I can access it just fine. If
I have it set for autosync + free run I get some problems accessing the
device (ping works for a few seconds on, then off, web interface is not
responsive at all, CNUT flat out doesn't work). The ethernet link does not
go down/up with sync at all.

Any other clues or things to look at?

Does it get gigabit with the cambium power supply?

Have you tried a different port on the injector? (To rule out a bad port
somehow missed in testing here)

I don't have a Cambium power supply =(

Ports 1 and 4 on the injector are both 100 meg. Is it worth trying 2/3?

Probably not.

Do you have any 802.3af or at injectors? They should work as well... at for
sure, af should work too.

Did you do any wire swapping? Does the 450i need to be swapped when
going into the SyncInjector?

Matt posted on the community site that you swap pins 5 and 7 at one end
of the run for connecting to a CMM4. The CMM4 isn't GigE, but I imagine
that pin swap would break GigE. ??

Re: [AFMUG] PMP450i lack of gigabit

2015-10-28 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
The 320 and 430 used a mixed pair arrangement. .. that is, both positive
and negative on the same pair... one on each wire. The swapping is to
enable a cmm4 to power a 450i which only supports power arrangements which
have the same polarity on both wires in the pair.

The only other thing I would check on the syncinjector is to make sure it's
really a gigabit injector inside, since it is possible that the wrong board
got put in the case. But that's just my paranoia talking-we've never had
one shipped with the wrong board to my knowledge. If you want to check
this, the cover should come off with no tools, only a fingernail. The
board should say gigabit in it.

FYI, I am seeing same thing. It passes through a GigE-APC-HV on way
to 450i AP. AP is getting sync from daisy chained syncpipe source
hooked too Gigabit SyncInjector powered by 48 volt. AP is working
fine just at 100mbps ethernet.

Good catch... My testing 450i seems to default to gigabit off (after a
factory default).

Once I set it on (which I seem to remember doing previously as well), it
links right up at gigabit speeds. This is with a RB850Gx2

Not a stupid question, George. That was it.

Factory default is actually the second to last option - auto 100/10/f/h. I
mean config from the factory - not what happens if you push factory default
in software. I did take this radio from 14.0 (factory) to 14.1b6.

Re: [AFMUG] PMP450i lack of gigabit

2015-10-29 Thread Matt
I have mine set on 1000base and it will only do 100base. It tries to do
1000base at first, you can see the dlink managed switch light blink green
at first, then it gives up and goes too 100base. It passes through 200
foot of shielded cat-5 then a GigE-APC-HV. I have also tried a 430APC-HV
with same result.

Nice. I like when problems are simple to solve like that.

Factory default is actually the second to last option - auto
100/10/f/h. I mean config from the factory - not what happens if you
push factory default in software. I did take this radio from 14.0
(factory) to 14.1b6.

GigE-APC-HV has different wiring than a 430-APC-HV. One of them is going to

Because FastE supports the capacity of the AP, and your less likely to have

Well I’m guessing that is the reason :-)

I kind of agree. I'm not sure the idea was behind defaulting it to auto 100

Factory default is actually the second to last option - auto 100/10/f/h. I
mean config from the factory - not what happens if you push factory default in
software. I did take this radio from 14.0 (factory) to 14.1b6.

OK so it would just kick down to 100 meg if there was a problem...

Yes, 100 meg would be good for most installs - but for a new install I'd
prefer to have it done right from the get go. In the future we may see a
need.

Re: [AFMUG] PMP450i lack of gigabit

2015-10-29 Thread George Skorup
I don't know if the 450i is the same, but it's harmless to let it
negotiate 1000Base-T. Aaron explained this before. If the 450's ethernet
sees 1000Base-T being advertised, it will try to link up and if there
isn't data on all four pairs, then it gives up and drops to 10/100 only.
There will be a few second delay for it to run through all that. This is
very obvious if you're trying to plug into a GigE port but have a
non-gigabit injector in between. This assumes that you have the radio
configured to negotiate at 1000 though. :)

On the regular 450, the gigabit is kinda useless if they don't plan to
bring in wider channel bandwidth at some point. I know it doesn't have
the CPU bandwidth to make use of 40, but maybe 25 or 30MHz. Or they'll
just make us upgrade to 450i. :(

Re: [AFMUG] PMP450i lack of gigabit

2015-10-29 Thread Matt
Using:

http://store.packetflux.com/gigabit-syncinjector-for-24-volt-cambium-radios/

Reproduced this at two tower sites with PMP450i AP's set at 1000base.

Current Site:
Dlink Managed Vlan Gigabit Switch
Gigabit SyncInjector powered at 48 volts.
APC surge arrestor. Tried both 430APC-HV and GigE-APC-HV. Both
worked but only at 100base.
200 foot shielded cat-5
450i AP.

Victory of sorts. At this site I removed the APC surge arrestor
completely and replaced with cheap plastic coupling. I now have
1000base connection at the 450i.
